How to post in this forum
This forum has been created specifically for aiding in the re-homing of URGENT dogs that are in a rescue situation. (see below for more info on what constitutes a rescue situation). Keep all 'general' rescue discussion in the main Rescue forum.
To better enable the most effective use of this forum, if you start a new topic,
please ensure you accept responsibility to update the current status as required so that obsolete information is kept to a minimum.
When creating the title, please post in the format specified (on the post screen) so potential rescuers have a good idea of things from the title without having to open the thread.
When you deem the dog is no longer in need of rescue, please edit the initial post and use the

symbol to alert the moderators that it needs to be moved to the 'Past Requests' forum. This will unclog the Request forum, whilst still allowing people to discuss past rescues if they desire.
If the dog is no longer deemed 'Urgent' but is still in need of rescue and you wish for it to be transferred to the 'Non-Urgent' forum, please Click the 'Report' button and request the thread be moved to non-urgent.
What is a rescue dog?In order to keep this Rescue Forum as useful as possible (and to help the dogs in greatest need), please use these 2 simple criteria when posting.
- All dogs listed must be genuine rescues. (i.e. the dog is currently either in a pound/animal refuge or in a foster care situation). Private re-homing is not generally premitted unless the dog risks being harmed, neglected, or will be surrendered to a pound if a home is not found quickly (also see below about private re-homing).
- Dogs in a private home, foster care or in a rescue groups/individuals care must be advertised as desexed. The only exemption is when the dog is;
1) Elderly
2) Too young (There must be a condition in the contract where the dog must be desexed when old enough AND/OR a desexing voucher given. Please state this condition when posting.)
Private re-homingIf you need to re-home your own dog (or you need to re-home a dog on behalf of the current owner) and it is not urgent, please see the "
Do you want to re-home your dog" topic for help. A dog in his situation is not really rescue and as such has more appropriate areas where they can be advertised. This will free up the resources for this forum for the dogs in real need.

Let me know if you are able to help any of these needies. Saves need to be on by close of business on Tuesday.
I would also like to add we were testing with a thunder storm rolling in.
Ignore numbers they are for ARF references
Yard 10 Crossbreed Male Approx 9-12 months

SAFE with ARF
In the cage: This boy was excitable and keen to get out.
In the stand and ignore: He was stood at the end of the lead and was barking (3)
In the withdrawal of affection: He accepted pats and then went to the end of the lead. (3)
He was happy to be handled all over
In the guide and place: He was very oft and allowed both he sit and drop (1)
In the stranger danger: He jumped up in a friendly manner and was unfazed (2)
In the kid test: He was excited and jumped all over the doll. Would suit older kids as he is a boofhead.
In the dog to dog: He was very exuberant puppy in his approach and may be too much for some dog. He was friendly though, just lacked manners (2)
He showed no signs of resource guarding
With correction on the chain: He was quite insensitive to correction so would need work in this area (3)
He knows sit.
He is a skinny boy that needs some fattening up.
A good boy that is simply an adolescent that hasn't had much done with him. With guidance and consistency I am sure he would thrive.

Opening Hours 9am-10am Mon, Tues, Thurs & Sat.
Prices vary depending upon size & sex. For dogs they start from $254 for males & work their way, depending on weight, to $315 for females 30kgs or more. For cats it is $177 for males & $236 for females.

For further enquiries please call the Animal Shelter on (02) 4937 5033 or Cessnock City Council's Customer Service on (02) 4993 4300
Cessnock City Council now has its own website with photos and info on the animals available. Here is the link to their Animal Gallery for avaliable dogs:
http://www.cessnock.nsw.gov.au/rangers/shelter/forsale. If you've lost you dog in the Cessnock region, it maybe impounded at the pound, so please visit the impounded animals section here:
http://www.cessnock.nsw.gov.au/rangers/shelter/lost.
Please note there are also cats and kittens available for adoption from the pound. Please visit their link above for further details. Please Sign the Petition!Kurri Pound has several issues which have resently been raised at Council. These issues involve the following:
1) Longer opening hours consistent with general business hours instead of the current four hours per week.
2) The move to a general do-not-kill policy where the vast majority of animals are given a significantly better chance for rescue or adoption.
3) A volunteer program wherein suitable members of the public can help out at the pound in a manner deemed suitable by staff.
4) Improved facilities for both staff and the impounded animals to ensure a safer and healthier environment.
5) Vastly improved security arrangements to ensure animals are not stolen, vandalism to the facility is eliminated, and staff can conduct their employment in a safe environment.
6) Full implementation of the recommendations issued in the “REPORT ON THE SECTION 430 INVESTIGATION INTO CESSNOCK CITY COUNCIL” in respect to the pound.
Council, however, has turned around & offered instead to merely open the pound for one extra hour a day. So enough is enough. Please follow this link, read the petition, & sign: http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/cessno...imal-pound.html
Thank you A few more announcements before I get to this weeks dogs & pups.
The Pound staff would love to hear back about REHOMING STORIES, from pound dogs, as they wish to put up a big board displaying all the dogs which have gone onto their forever loving homes.
Secondly the pound needs some help. They are always short of towels, blankets, sheets, toys for both cats & dogs, not to mention treats, & even food. They understand they aren't the only ones in need of such things, but would greatly appreciate any such donation(s). You can drop off such items at either the pound, during their opening hours, or at the Cessnock Council Administration building, at the Customer Service desk, in Vincent Street, Cessnock. The pound has been inundated with kittens. Yes, sadly, it's that time of the year & there's lots of them at the pound. Adoption prices are $177 for males & $236 for females. The rangers hope some will be saved over the following week or two otherwise they'll be facing the bridge beyond. The next is an important yet simple message from the senior ranger.
Vaccinate your dogs!
• Please ensure that you immunise your pet by 6 - 8 weeks of age.
• Ensure that you immunise your pet annually.
• Do not socialise your pet in public places until it is fully vaccinated (boosters included).PET DESEX PROGRAM!Hunter Animal WatchIf you are a pensioner or hold a health benefit card Hunter Animal Watch can help with the cost of desexing.
Phone (02) 4964 1823 or (02) 4966 4344 (1pm - 4pm Mondays or Tuesdays) for details or drop by their website:

So I don't know how much time she has left.DONATION OFFER: butch's dad has made the following generous donation pledge:QUOTE
$50 donation to any reputable rescue group that can take this little girl on. She's been at the pound so many weeks now, perhaps some donations may help her cause. Too young to be left stranded.

• $15 for a desexed dog or cat owned by an eligible pensioner.
If you wish to give one of these Pound Animals a home you will need to contact Cowra Council on (02) 6340 2041 to schedule an appointment.
The info I have for 'Peter' is as follows : "For this week's advertisement we have a 7 year old Male Corgi Cross Kelpie named Peter. The dog was surrendered to the pound by its owners and has a good nature." For further information please ring the number above. Again, I can help with transport if necessary.

HI all,
Special plea for 5 three week old kittens surrendered to kurri pound today. They have little hope of survival at the pound unless someone can take them into DOC.
Any help appreciated.
Sorry no pics and no further info at all, you would have to enquire with the pound.
Thanks
