Next Whippet Fun Day Healesville Greyhound Track. for more info, email us at y v w r c at ( use @) hotmail dot (use .) come and leave out all the spaces.
Saturday 18th September is our next whippet fun day at the Healesville Greyhound Track. Our last day was an amazing success in the most appalling weather. The track was so boggy and wet we had to run beside it, but even so the whippets took it all in their stride. The spectacular photos Pete took have had well over 2000 views, the most ever for any of our days.

There's a chance it will be the same on the 18th as amazingly, as I write, the greyhounds have not raced on the track since late May. They were supposed to go back July 4th!
So, at this stage I am reminding you that we are set for
Saturday September 18th but I will confirm this the night before or the actual morning of the 18th because as you know, sometimes we've had the track cancel on very short notice and we've had to make other arrangements.
We are in desperate need of more help, we need a secretary and a treasurer urgently and more helpers, as we will only have 5 on Saturday and to be honest, I am wondering how we will manage. This seems to be a standard problem with many clubs. No one wants to step up and help. So I ask you all to consider giving us a hand and getting involved. Please!
Other than that the formula will be the same, fun runs $5 per whippet/dog for members, $10 per whippet/dog for non members for as many runs as your dog wants. Muzzles are compulsory for all dogs running and are for sale or hire on the day. Barbeque and soft drinks for sale, free tea and coffee, and a raffle.
All dogs must be leashed unless actually racing. I noticed a couple running free last meeting. Please be responsible and control your dog. When you arrive have your dog already leashed in your car so they dont leap out and run willy nilly.
Because this is our first Saturday it would be great if you could send an email if you plan to come, to give me an idea of numbers, and how many snags to buy.
We hope to see you all.
Linda

Anyone interested in coming along to a Mock Rally Trial on the 11th September, we are holding one at the Myrtleford Showgrounds from 10am. This is a fun event and prized will be offered.
Due to the floods in Myrtleford and the forcast for more rain we have decided to cancel the Mock Trial, we will arrange another date soon.

I'm wondering if anyone trains their dog in weight pulling. If anyone has any information on this sport, such as what is a safe age to start, how much weight should be used, methods and the like it would be appreciated.
If anyone has any negetive points also state them.
I have read several breeds excel at this such as Amstaffs, Eng Staffs, APBT, mastiffs etc

I'm fostering an amazingly focused 8-9 month old kelpie x called Nala who would make an excellent agility dog. She's not only good natured and gets along with other dogs but she is quick to learn, seems to want to please and is very fast! She can sit, drop and 'shake'. I've had her three weeks now and I'd love to see her in a home where she could take part in agility.
If you know of anyone looking for a dog like Nala then please send them to me

Her description is on the ARF website in the small/medium section
ACT Rescue & FosterSome photos (she's not very big as you can see from the photo at the bottom)...
Many thanks, Lyn

I was talking to the canine disc dog people at the world dog games, they told me they actually run training clinics. The president of the club is Damian Noud, was thinking about perhaps contacting him if enough interest and getting him to run a clinic in Victoria.
Was also thinking this would be an easy sport to introduce in dogs clubs as all you need is the outlay for a frisbee.
What I was surprised about in this sport, is that the dog does not have to jump really high and catch the frisbee, it can just run along on the ground and catch the frisbee, had a quick little go with Tia, and she managed to catch one 15 ft away.

Hi
A friend has recently moved here from Europe and would love to join in any clubs/activities in the Muswellbrook area. I'm not sure how far they'd be willing to go, but perhaps include any Lower Hunter/Newcastle clubs that could help.
Obedience, agility, tracking, herding etc

Rally is pretty new in NZ, and I believe it is the same on Oz too...? So far only a few people have actually gotten their RN title under the southern region rules (the one that NZKC endorse) and only a handful more have gotten it under the NZARO rules! Paris has gotten her first leg towards our RN title, and we have a triple rally show this coming weekend that in theory we have a chance of getting a 90+ score in 2 of the 3 shows and getting our title too!! I'm excited to be getting into it, I have seen it and looked at stuff online, but only entered the one show so far, so it's neat to be in on the sport when it's at such infancy in NZ! I look forward to one day being able to look back on these first trials and seeing how far the sport has grown!!!
Who else does rally?? I will get some photos this weekend to share when we get home. Does anyone have particular tips or anything??

I was doing a little training last week, and decided to record it, cos I can... lol!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSUJVpnDhHAWe're only in special beginners (the basic of the basic classes!) but we're having a lot of fun, and it's possible I might even be able to get to the NZ national dog show this year and compete there!!! Scary, but could be fun... LOL!

wouldnt this be amazing to have in melbourne Vic
i mean how hard could it be to find an old barn and spruce it up!
yes people "build it and they will come"
http://www.agilityvision.com/our-facilitywhy does it seem america can have indoor facilities all over the place but there is a demand for training here in Aus!
this would be a great investment for somebody with a field or barn!
just think your own training facility and you can charge people to use it!
hold your own trials!
why is there such a demand for agility training centres yet nobody is doing anything about it?

There is a rough coat JRT at AAPS in Melbourne who we assessed today and he would make the most AMAZING sports dog- flyball or agility. He is a super friendly, very outgoing, agile and ball driven boy who will be wasted if he doesn't go to a dog sports home.

He is not good with cats but had a great time playing with our big test dog- he is not short on confidence!! Needs some training but VERY smart and learns rapidly when worked in drive.
His name is Buddy and he is 18 month old- his photo is here

Hi,
CAn anyone direct me to a club or somewhere I can take an (almost) 9 month old Kelpie for dog sports. She is very active and keen to learn.
I live East Lake Macquarie, so somewhere Lake MAc/ Newcastle area.
I know there is an "all-breeds" club at Hillsborough, but they only take at 12 months.
Thanks,

So much has happened since February where we only spent 1/2 an hour in group 2 and put up to Group 3.....we are now in Group 3 and in the next couple of weeks will be put up into Group 4....this is all offlead and have trained with Group 4 some weeks and loved it....Dezzy especially likes the offlead work....a couple of weeks ago we competed in a mock CCD trial and blew it big time (I was sooo nervous) and I think Dezzy picked that up...but we did one of the best stand for exams and was rock solid in the sit and drop stays so overall was very happy....Tamika (my daughter) is doing childrens classes and has been put up to Group 2 in kids classes...she now trains Jessie and is learning so much on how to make a dog stand and drop (Jessie has a bit of trouble with these....especially the drop when it is wet )...she even got Jessie to go through a tunnel today when Jessie did not want to go in there....that is a start for Jessie to start learning agility and we might even do flyball with Jessie as she is so quick.....after class today I was waiting for Tamika and a guy with a Newfoundland approached me and was so impressed with Dezzy that he asked if we wanted to do the companion dog program....he is all for us going for this and is very supportive in getting the amstaff breed out there (Dezzy will be the first Amstaff around this area to do this)....he is going to bring the papers next week so we can start...so lots happening and I love it all
