Wobbler Syndrome Help Options

[WONT DOWGRADE!]

my female 14mth dane is currently getting x-rayed for a possible wobbler.
im sure it will come back positive and i am looking for other owners who have gone through this.
the surgery i have been told is not 100% and i just want her to be comfortable.
what would you do?
i have a male who loves her to bits and they are both very active as we are on acres and
i couldnt possibally imagine keeping her quiet and confined to her run as she is only young.
money is not a huge issue but we are not the richest people and i dont think
we can keep paying for special treatments ect. for the rest of her life.....


i keep hoping the vet will call me and say she has a tick down her ear or somewhere unusual and that explains the wobbling!!!
i just hope its nothing

CVI: Wobblers - is a result of pressure on the spinal cord in the neck region and results in a "drunken" gait & increasing instability. It it thought to result from a combination of nutritional effects and inherited traits and is considered a form of DOD (Developmental Osteodystrophy) along with such as OCD. Great Danes are considered at risk for Wobblers. CVI stands for Cervical Vertebral Instability.

There are two ways they can actually diagnose Wobblers, one is by MRI and the other is a Mylegram.

i called my vet and he says she is just recovering from getting her x-rays and he will speak to me when i pick her up.
that often means it is not good news....
a handful off people have told me they would PTS but im still researching and nothing seems to be 100% succesfull.
and post op will be just traumatising for her and you cant have them around other dogs!!! WT??

It's often just easier to talk face to face and that way he can show you the x-rays etc and have more time to talk to you.
Try not to worry too much. Hopefully you'll get some answers this afternoon and can discuss some further options.

Have a Dobe with Wobblers, vet advised against surgery, saying it's often not successful.
She goes to the vets about every 45 days and has an injection of Depredil 40MG.
It's not a cure, she is living a normal life, wouldn't know she has Wobbler's. For us this
was the better option of the three....... a) surgery b) PTS and c) the Depredil.

There are some "rules" for carying of a dog with wobblers.
No playing with other dogs, no chasing of balls, sticks, etc, no stairs, feeding off the floor, walking the dog on a harness not on a collar.
Supplements/medications can be given for extended periods of time and if the dog is managed correctly they can live a relativelly normal life for few years.

If it does turn out to be Wobblers, please let your breeder know about this, as Wobblers is considered heriditary, and your breeder needs to know, so they can re~assess their breeding program. They may also be able to help advise you with your pup

it is confirmed that she has got it so my next step is deciding what to do about it.
i dont want to confine her and stop her from playing.....

i have spoken to my breeder and he is going through his books now because he kept a male from that litter..

My vet did say if
it's diagnosed and dealt with within the first 24 hours then the option we

it will be 4 days today with her having it.
hope it will work if it is reccomended...fingers crossed.
