  1. Stunning artwork Miru Do you have a website? I'd love to get some portraits done :)
  2. Dandenong Ranges Vet Centre in Olinda do an awesome weeknight class, positive reinforcement based and good mix of learning and fun. Dandenong Ranges Puppy Preschool
  3. Have a look at the Busy Budy Tug-a-Jug maybe? It's bottle shaped, with a rope threaded through the middle, cover at one end screws off for easy addition of food :) Takes ours quite some time to extract the goodies from it! You'll probably have to look at it to make sure your size kibble will come out easily enough though.
  4. Just wondering if the BSB is like a hard moulded material that provides a solid space for the dogs? Or a soft canvas type that moves when the dog moves around? Hope that makes sense :)
  5. Gorgeous photos! We did the parrot walk-through a couple of months ago, it was one of my favourite areas in sanctuary.
  6. When Indi had a similar injury, we used an old sock to loosely cover his foot, taped at the top. He couldn't nibble at the stitches, and it did allow airflow to the wound as well.
  7. Bailey's also have a holiday house at Normanville, which is lovely and has a fully fenced backyard. There are steps going up to the front door (from memory), but not in the house as it's only single storey (and a ramp going down into the huge backyard). Floorboards in the lounge, but you could always put down something non-slip yourselves. Maybe worth a checkout? :)
  8. In general they're not like whippets or greys, and they do tend to be more independent and "aloof"...however they definitely CAN be social creatures (mine's lying on my bed next to me as I type) :D Like others have said before, they are certainly not for everyone so keep on doing your research (as you have been ) and when the time is right go and meet as many salukis and reputable breeders in real life as you can (there are many breeders in the Eastern states)....that's the only way you will work out if they will suit your lifestyle, and if you will be able to meet their requirements. :D edited to add, definitely ask questions in the Sighthound thread - lots of knowledgeable sighthoundy folk in there
  9. Hey SSM, I only just saw this post. Indi had something very similar (if not identical) a while ago...and was diagnosed at the vets (after Xrays) as being trauma of the sesamoid bone, causing it to fuse to the anterior carpal(?). Apparently caused by him knocking it when hooning around the place at 100 miles an hour The swelling did go down after a few weeks, but not completely and now the lump has calcified.....it doesn't impinge on his movement at all, and doesn't cause any pain or discomfort whatsoever...just looks slightly unsightly. Wonder if laser treatment might have helped early on? Anyway, hope all turned out ok for you with this
  10. Beautiful, thanks for posting this

    Saluki

Cute video you found there mychow :D I'm not sure where you got the impression on here that Salukis are not very playful?? Generally speaking, they most definitely love to play! My own boy is the biggest clown when he's in the mood ;) Are you interested in the breed?
  12. Stupid generalisations disgust me. You do nothing for the argument with exaggerations, generalisations and what is basically racism- besides lose credibility for your own cause. Totally agreed. I grew up in Asia because my Father was based there for work, I've since been home for 8 years now. I'd say their 'customs' are welcoming, friendly and respectful for most animals and people. Not everyone in Asia walks out and eats a random dog for breakfast. Or a Koala. Or an endangered species. You probably have people in every country who does weird things, and eat strange things. There are also some cultures who eat cockroaches, bats, spiders etc, that AREN'T Asian. So what do ya know? Aboriginals ate witchedy grubs (Sp?) and crickets etc... That might be considered disgusting to some people too. But if someone came out and said 'AUSTRALIAN CUSTOMS DISGUST ME THEY EAT GRUBS AND CRICKETS'. You'd be pretty offended too. Don't tar people with the same brush unless you know all of them personally. Agree with HA and MM. I am surprised with how many people are still flippantly throwing around prejudiced and generalised racial / culturally prejudiced slurs despite the issue being raised earlier in the thread. Certainly learning a lot more about certain DOLers. Yup.
  13. WTF?! as others have said, just about every culture and custom in the world had things which people find disgusting...Australian culture included!! You've made a really broad brush statement about "asian" customs....could you outline exactly which part of "asia" you are referring to, and what percentage of "asian" people "indulge" in this sort of "disgusting" behaviour?? I have no idea WTF this statement has to do with anything...it borders on racism, thanks for lowering the tone of this thread Sheena. I'm sure I taste like pork too, would you like a bite?? BTW, a native mammals specialist sitting next to me is rolling his eyes at the people who think that is a Koala in the cage.
  14. Can't make it to the 13th...have to get stuff done in the morning, before going to town to see KD Lang at the Entertainment Centre that night! But will look out for future dates :D
  15. yes, I loved Frosty's enthusiasm! I'm impressed that most of the dogs did the up and back pretty easily, even the 600m run!
  16. Sorry to hear that Jacqui I hope everything is ok. We all had a great time today, don't think there were as many as the last meet(?) so everyone got at least 2 runs. I'm posting some pics below, but have also uploaded them all on my Facebook link directly below. I'm sure some of the others will post their pics here too :D Lure racing pics Indi the Saluki doing his gallop Salukis Saffie and Layla being competitive White GSD Apex(? hope that's right) doing his thing Saffie and Layla again, still flying! Meg the Kelpie Asha the Pharaoh Hound...she didn't really "get it", and preferred to lick my face more than run Frosty(?) who absolutely loved every second of the chase Indi again, this time giving his glamour look at 100 miles an hour Indi still flying and lastly, one of the Greyhounds who were exercising before we started edited to add, I was a bit unsure how our two would go around other dogs they hadn't met before.....but they were fine, and I think Indi even found a new girlfriend!
  17. Do you turn down Tozer road to get to the car park? Or before you hit Tozer road?
  18. Ours can be unfriendly at times to other dogs (if they get in their faces), so we'll be sitting in the back row like I said before ;)
  19. hehehe - and a 6am LEAVE THE HOUSE for me!! See you there!! Should be fun, see you there! 6am wake up here as well....so an early night for us grandpas tonight
  20. Corvus, can you outline exactly what you mean by the terms "timid" and "bold" in your study? I know we all have a general idea of what those terms means, but it would help to know in what context you are using them. Like some of the other posters have said, "sensitive", "reserved", and "aloof" more accurately describes (still a big generalisation) some breeds of sighthounds in my opinion. I agree with Alyosha that "Timidness" has a negative connotation, and doesn't sound like it would be breed/group specific to me. Not disagreeing with your study at all, just interested
  21. We'll be there with a saluki and pharaoh on the 16th. Is it an 8am start? Both of ours can occasionally be dog reactive if another dog gets in their faces....so we'll be the ones hanging in the back row LOL
  22. Oh Sonia, just reading this has made me all emotional too May time make your grief ease a little for dear Sally xxx
  23. If we're free, we'll come help you guys! Good luck finding someting suitable.
  24. Hey Marlfoxx, I found this one advertised on dogzonline and it looks like its in NSW. Carrington Kennels I'm sure there could be others here in SA, so hopefully others will come along and post. PS if you are who I think you are, then hello!!
