  1. I am looking for some recommendations for a positive dog trainer in the Campbelltown area who can do home visits. Must be a gentle trainer towards the human side as well as the dog side of the duo. Clicker training is helping currently and would be preferred. Happy for recommendations of centres that do 1 week boarding/training too, with follow io and human training. This is not for me, rather for a friend. I need to trust any recommendation before passing on details. Thanks!
  2. Met with council this morning. Will find out what happened.
  3. My friends dog was attacked at a dog park yesterday. She is having surgery today. $2500 of vet treatment. Police were called. Told unless it was a trained attack dog, they did not want to know about it. Ranger is on holidays until next week. I have told her to take photos and document everything. This dog has a history apparently. The owner was told to get his dog away and responded with "it is just playing"... Is there anything else she needs to do for when she reports to rangers?
  4. My heart breaks for you honey. I cannot believe that she's not here... she was always going to be there... grey around the muzzle and warm around the heart. Sending you so much love ...x
  5. After having a new puppy get VERY sick immediately after a plane flight (Vic to NSW), I would never have a puppy put on a plane again. added to that, there are lots of dogs that travel that you have no idea what diseases they are carrying and spreading to others.
  6. Bilbo... where (exactly in w'bool) LOL... not when the date is in the heading!
  7. Oooh. Warrnambool has a dog show on? Might have to go visit! Where is it held?
  8. Appropriate behaviour in an offleash area is to have your dog recall, put back on a leash and wait for others to enter the area. Take your dog on a leash, introduce the dogs and then let them offleash. By allowing the dogs to meet on the leash, under absolute control you are allowing the dogs and the other owners control of the situation. You then ask the owner if their dogs want to play, is it ok for them to run around and if all is ok, then let your dogs off. It is unfair to assume that all dogs in an offleash area want to play, or will react kindly to a dog running up to them - friendly or not. A dog that runs up to another dog is assuming an attacking behaviour (even if they are fun) and the other dogs must go on the defensive from the outset. Best thing is to put your dog on a lead every time it is to meet a dog in the offlead area.
  9. Jed, Mika was from a new breeder, their first litter. I ended up going to big vet names around trying to get answers for what she went through. I'm not fretting it, I just found the video so amazing to see as it was Mika all over. Mika had other small issues (one eye that bulged more than the other, and appeared to get worse as she got older) but vets didn't seem worried about that.. but she was very sick the week I got her (pneumonia), and all the further issues were attributed to that. I just find it all interesting....
  10. OMG. it's like watching a video of Mika. She scratched CONSTANTLY for years. I checked with different vets and different clinics... food issues I was told.. changed her diet, not response to it... changed her flea treatments... grass allergies... flea allergies... tried to find so many reasons, but nothing would help. She had steriods for a bit and that seemed to work for a little bit. She'd scratch and she'd suck her toes, and scratch, and chase flies that weren't there, and scratch and scratch... She died of a suspected heart attack.. I had rehomed her by then due to circumstances... I don't know the exact details of her death, other than medication could not stop it. She was found convulsing I believe, and rushed to the vet and after numerous treatments the decision to PTS was made... She had just turned 5 (or was that 6?) years old... that video has spooked me...
  11. I've been quoted between $180 and $310 to have my female rabbit spayed. It varies quite significantly depending on the vet. I just didn't expect *that* high of a cost before getting a female rabbit. I expected around $120 - $150... it just seems to change depending on where you go!
  12. There are mobile dog grooming businesses being sold on ebay all the time.. Go do the course, while you search and look out for your own trailer and do it that way. Much better!
  13. Hi Fiona I understand your concern. I gave a very good description of the GSD, including the number of tags it had around its neck. I saw a house where it ran from and ran back too. Council records confirm a GSD lives at this address. The dog did have a chance to escape that day, and the owners did not know until the dog was returned to them by their neighbours. The council checked for other GSDs in the vicinity however there are no other dogs in the street, or the cross streets that match the description. There is very low possibility of the dog being different to the one identified.
  14. Oh, Cordy - would love to come and visit at some stage... but will give you some time to get used to your newest member of the family.
  15. The dog and owner were located. A dangerous dog order will be placed. They will have 3 months to comply with all demands. Or surrender the dog for euthanasia. I just signed my statement for the council. On the upside some nice friendly GSDs are coming to visit this afternoon to give me some shepherd time.
