This is a petition to raise as many emails/post as we can to change the current QLD legislation to allow dogs in an outside dining areas. We want to let the council know how many of us out there like to take our fur babies to cafes with us.

Current laws state that no premises are allowed to have animals present whether inside or in outside dining areas. They have to be tied up at least 5 metres from the premises.

This law is ridiculous, where more than 64% of Australians own dogs, this law needs to be changed to accomodate our four legged friends.

Please give us as much reponse/support as possible on why Queenslands should support dogs in an outside dining areas.

Please feel free to PM me aswell.

Sorry, we just want as many people posting here on DOL and supporting that they take their fur babies to cafes and would like it more pet friendly. If you could tell us how often you like to take your four legged friends to cafes and also if anyone has been turned away from a cafe and reasons. All stories and info welcome.

Thanks

I would love to be able to take my dogs to a cafe! I would love it if I could go for a stroll with other dog owning friends and all stop off at a dog friendly establishment to have a coffee with those friends and our canine companions.

Playing Devil's Advocate here ...... but what would the control be that these dogs would be appropriately tempered for mixing with the public in these sorts of confines?

Don't get me wrong - I'm all for it and I believe that if people could, more would, and if more would, then more pups would be socialised to it and we'd have less problems.

But where does it start? What controls to ensure an unpleasant "event" doesn't happen? Because if it does, not only could someone be injured, but it would put paid to any entertainment of the idea in the future .... well planned or not.

Im all for it as well, but the last two encounters the girls have had with other dogs has been due to us walking past an outdoor cafe... and the last one did not end well with a small silkie looking thing who was sitting obscured by the barrier lost it when Problem Child trotted past (it did not see us coming) and before that was the SWF that chased Lola up the street dragging the chair behind it..

There is the whole other issue of people tripping over leads and dogs..

It would be nice to be able to do it, but from my limited and recent experience not such a good idea..

I took my dog to a cafe in Vic that had previously allowed dogs in its outside dining area. I was told I had to take my dog out and leave him tied to a barrier, which was on the edge of a 15 foot drop into the sea. I told them I don't do that to my dog and left. We got fish and chips instead and had a grand time. It is unsafe to leave dogs tied up anywhere their owners are not.

Down where I live everyone takes their dogs to cafes. We all have our coffees with our dogs at our feet and they're fine. If I'm in charge of naughty dogs that will upset everyone then I just don't take them. Can't imagine what it would be like if I couldn't take my dog for a coffee after a walk. Queensland should wake up to the fact that so many people are pet owners and the benefits of them. What is it with treating dogs like vermin.

I would like to take Oscar to an outdoor eating area cafe. My husband and I regularly walk along Sandgate beach front and do enjoy a cup of coffee and something to eat as well. My little fella is quite happy to sit at our feet. Chris and I aren't an older coupe either, we are in our mid 20's. We are huge consumers of coffee and dining out. We try to take Oscar with us everywhere we go.. Why should he be left at home, when he too likes the fresh air.

It actually really upsets me that we can't take Oscar with us places. He is apart of our family as well.

Most cafs here in Victoria - well the ones I've been to anyway - have a dog friendly area outside, most will even leave waterbowls outside so passing doggies can have a drink. I've never been turned away in the area which I live (Werribee). But I'd probably hesitate to take my girl in the cafes closer to the city (like, say, Balaclava) simply because the cafes are packed to the gills on the street, so firstly it's not always guaranteed you'll get an outside spot to sit, and Bella's a medium-sized doggy so she'll probably be in the way for servers, other customers, and pedestrians. It can get quite cramped down there.

Ralphdog - Are you doing this in conjunction with the BarkingMad movement, if so I will not be signing your petitions due to the irresponsible campaign that was run in my locality, and I believe it no coincidence that we have just lost one of our off leash parks.

No we are not supporting the BARKING MAD campaign, we have not heard of this.

Our whole aim is to let cafes owners have the choice to have a dog sitting outside with their owners. We have had one too many experiences of being shunned from local cafes because of this law and feel it has to change to accomodate our fur babys.

We will present this post to our local Council next week, so PLEASE only POSITIVE responses to this campaign!

Please post that you agree that this local law should be changed to accomodate our pets.

I support your petition. I live in Canberra and we take our dogs to a local cafe for a coffee. I was very impressed recently on a trip to Adelaide where there were dogs everywhere at Glenelg on a Sunday morning - playing on the beach and owners and dogs sitting in outdoor cafes - lovely.

It might help if you realise that the law is STATE legislation (Health Act) and therefore petitioning your council will have nil effect. Local governments are unable to make laws that override state Acts and regulations.
Therefore It is the State govt you need to approach.
