Rhodesian Ridgeback Thread

2,274 posts in this topic

hey everyone just starting this up because ridgebacks are so awesome and they don't get enough talk time :) seeing as other cool breeds get their own thread putting this out there so everyone can see how cute these dogs are :(

we already had a bit of a thread going in the pictures section but thought this would be a bit more appropriate but heres a link to it

http://forums.dogzonline.com.au/index.php?showtopic=98382

so i'll start the sharing :D

Clifford is a nearly 8 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback. hes a gorgeous, gentle, loveable, sooky, MASSIVE boy. love him to bits and this is him...

:) Yay a Ridgie thread :(

So, as there are not nearly enough pictures of Jonty here is my bub at 9 weeks and now at 8 months:

Jonty's registered name is Koninklik Chabwera (AI). His father is (was) Aust. Ch. Marsabit Mfumo (Hogan) and his mother Koninklik Ysmensmeisie (Scully).

Jonty enjoys sleeping, walks on the beach, eating, sleeping, lying in the sun, playing with his toy (as above) oh, did I mention sleeping :D ??? Right at this moment he is (drum roll please....................) SLEEPING!!!!!

Jonty is growing into a handsome young man and I'm very proud of him .....

PS. I :D MY JONTY BOY (in case you couldn't tell)..

Yay! Go the Ridgies :D

My girl Siekah is 29months. Still entire because I haven't decided yet what to do with her as far as breeding and showing go. I initially put her in the show ring as a pup because it was just another way to get some socialisation in for both of us :( But now she is over half way to her title. Not sure if I want to continue with the showing....just too much to fit in and showing wasn't really one of my primary goals.

We train in obedience, agility and tracking but pulled out of all comps last September because she kept aggravating a back injury she got at 12 months. Not sure if we will enter agility again which is a shame, but I have some jumps etc at home and was figuring that we will start training from the beginning with the jumps on low to see how she goes. Her chiro and physio reckon that she should be fine, but I don't want to take too many risks. Her agility career never really got off the ground.

The break away has been good for us both though and I have continued with her obedience training and she is coming along very nicely. I'm thinking of entering her in a trial in July. She already has the first leg of her CCD title and the first leg of her TD (tracking) title.

BTW Clifford is Gorgeous :)

I can't post pics because I don't have a digital camera. :D

ETA: Hey MP, you snuck in before I finished typing :D

How can anyone resist a Ridgie pup...Jonty's forehead wrinkles are just the look that sold me on these beautiful babes.

But they grow up sooo fast hey!?

Hi Rom!!!

Siekah sounds beautiful (wish we could see some piccies!!!) ... she also sounds smart (so maybe there is hope for Jonty yet).

We're working on Jontys obedience and hope to get into agility when he's older. I think he'd enjoy tracking also (doG knows I can't keep his nose off the ground when we go walkies :) ).

Oh and go Clifford the Big Red Dog !!!!

 Zola kept bugging me about "our own thread"...........well done schaef!

We've been away, up in the wheatbelt for four days, man is it dry out there! Poor buggers. Zola enjoyed her first real holiday - on a farm with so much room, you can just keep running for days!

Well I spose I better put up some photos of my rr, Clifford and Jonty are both gorgeous boys, so I will add some shots of my girl.

Hi!!!

My boy at about 5 months old, Mr Royce. He is from Adelaide, Inzara kennels. Inzara Blue Opal. He is now 20 months old and extremely smart. Great obedience willing to do anything for me a real sweeheart. However his favourite favourite thing is Lure Coursing at KCC park, goes mad, its like his evil twin comes out. .

He is my second Ridgeback, Reg, The King of all Dogs we used to call him a gentle giant who we were lucky to have to for 11 years. Still miss him terribly.

Schaef10,

Thanks for starting this thread on what I believe to be the best breed of all (but then I am biased!!). We have two RR's - Makini 3 y.o. bitch and Jabali 2 1/2 y.o. dog). Makini was desexed last Christmas and Jabali is still entire. They are/were both show dogs and have a less than glorious record in the ring, but it is all fun!! We wonder what life was like before they came into our lives and sometimes wonder what it would be like if they weren't there now, particularly as Makini has just let off a very stinky fart!! Seriously though, we love them to bits and wouldn't be without them.

 COOL A RIDGIE THREAD  opps sorry for yelling the excitment of it all got too me a bit.

Well i own Mallee a female Ridgie (and yes they are the best dog ever!!! *cough not bias at all cough*) She just turned 2 on 8 April. Mallee has had elbow and hip dysplasia both diagonised at around 4 months old, she had quite a tough beginning in life, she had about 6 operations all up and spent the vast majority of her puppyhood recovering. So now she is a big 2 year pup making up for lots of lost time. We had great plans for Mal but unfortunatley due to her ED and HD she is living the life of a much loved pet, lounging all day, playing all night and getting up to too much mischief.

She is such a wonderful dog - full of spirit and life, so eager to please and so smart picks everything up so quickly (mind you some things too quickly...lol...)- but oh it is just so tempting to get another one, maybe in a year!!!

So here she is.........

first day home - awww

post-7819-1181876548_thumb.jpg

tiny tiny at 8.5 weeks

post-7819-1181876580_thumb.jpg

and now (late last year)- modelling a sock covering her stitches from when she decided it might be fun to jump through the lounge room window to chase a cat - she was very lucky - although she now has a funny toe that sticks up due to the tendon being torn - just another thing to add to her huge growing list of dramas - but thats another thread.

Its good to see that there are a fair few of us Ridgie lovers out there!!

ETA : Hey maya, how did you make your sig?

Hey RG

I made my sig. at work when I was bored (usually Friday arvos - they just drag on and on). Anyhoo, I think I used Paint Shop Pro - it's a pretty budget (in fact I think it might be available as free download).

For my avatar I went to Free Online Image Editor ....

Hi Mr R & NR,

I wish they did lure coursing in WA - it looks like heaps of fun!!!

Hello fellow Ridgians ....

Just a question (malleerr you may know something about this) ... how common is Hip / Elbow dysplasia in Ridgebacks in Australia????

I was just at the vet and it came up ....

I have Bruno, my beautiful ridgeback boy. He is 7 months old, and a big boofer. His likes include chicken, snuggling, farting and running away, playing chasey, talking to me, walkies, playing in the park and in the duck pond, playing tug, and eating, oh and sleeping, and ummm, eating!! His dislikes include strangers coming to the house unnannounced, getting put oustide when he has gas and not always getting his own way or to eat what his mummy eats! Ridgies are just so smart and beautiful, I love my boy soooo much!
