Hi All

I'm looking for nice, fun places to take my dog for a walk.

Parks are best, off (preferred) or on leash - I walk him on a long lead most of the time anyway.

Maybe this could turn into the 'dog park melbourne' sticky?!?!?

Anyway, I'm in St Kilda so nearby areas are St Kilda, Prahran, Port Melbourne, Caulfield, Malvern, Hawthorn, etc, etc

I know of:

Alma Park
Port Melbourne and St Kilda beaches
Gasworks Park

We like green leafy places with trees paths, a few open areas for training, lots of sniffing :) :)

Happy to hear of suggestions further away - Sunday drives are nice!

Let the suggestions roll.

Lillydale lake does have an off lead area away from all of the people where the dogs can run wild but your dog should have good recall as there are no
fences in that particular area and a little creek for the dogs to play in.

Brighton has a fenced dog beach with bins and bags provided :) And I mean properly fenced with gates!

I know they're pretty far but I know of: A park in Altona, Presidents Park in Werribee and theres a dog beach down in Queenscliff

That Brighton one is a good one - I remember walking down there - sans dog - I'd forgotten about it!!!

Thanks!

East Melbourne also has a little doggy park with bags and bins.
There is always a few dogs running around so least you're dog will have company
There is also a Oval just on Church Street in Richmond where i always see loads of dogs running and being silly :)

Well, sort of safe - I know of a dog who swam around the rocks at low tide and luckily headed off along the pier instead of the highway :)

You can use Doggo to search for dog-friendly parks and beaches Australia-wide - www.doggo.com.au. There are a number of places listed in the St Kilda area (and more are being added to the database all the time).

There are heaps around you! Spoilt for choice.

Albert Park - have to read which areas are leashed.

City side of Fawkner Park (St Kilda Road side) is leash free, huge and it is great for dogs there - lots of friendly people.
Kooyong Park (next to the blind instit.) Glenferrie Road in Kooyong opposite the tennis centre - it is about 5 ovals long. All leash free.
Fairview Park - you can get to it from reception place carpark on Riversdale Road - Leonda (spelling) - that is a beautiful park. We go there alot. All leash free. (Also another big reserve on that Boulveard that is leash free too, on opposite side of Yarra)
Park on corner of Orrong Road/Malvern Road.
Caulfield Park - Inkerman and Hawthorn Road - only half of that park is leash free.

Lots of little leash free parks everywhere around those areas too.

Parks

There are heaps of 'linear parks' along the Yarra- out fairfield/ivanhoe way is great!

Dendy Park in Brighton is a great one. Massive and well-used by dog lovers.

Haha! Well I guess if you have a good swimmer/escape artist :)

My boyfriend's mum and I did find a loose dog once.. It must've gotten out the gate and started wandering around the footpath.. However as far as dog parks/beaches go its the most secure I've found  Others are either unfenced or the fencing is inadequate..

Plus its always so busy and the dogs -love- the water there! :) I think its a beautiful spot

We love Victoria Gardens which is on High Street, Armadale. There is a great offlash oval and plenty of doggies to play with.

Most of the suggested parks/beaches should now be appearing on Doggo. You can also add reviews and ratings of the parks if you're interested!
