I was wondering whether anyone has some doggy dog ideas they can share. I have a glass sliding door and I don't want to cut a hole into it to slot in a doggy door. I went to a pet store today (one without pets that just sells food and accessories) and they have a doggy dog solution that you can install but the cost was like $400-$500! ;) It was a good doggy door but i don't want to spend that kind of money for a hole in the door.

If someone has made their own doggy dog, would you mind sharing your idea? I went to bunnings and asked the handy man and they had no idea how to do one.

My dad made my doggy door for me! BUT we removed a whole panel of lower glass and replaced it with wood, which he cut the dog door out of, and he made a lockable wooden door that swings back and forth, and a plastic flap. Not sure about glass installation tho

Petmate do good dog doors for about $150.00 I think Kramar distribute them. You can contact the distributor for stockists near you. Good thing about petmate doors is that they have replaceable bits like flaps.

Glass doors are very difficult and you will be hard pressed finding a cheap solution without replacing the whole door, glass is very expensive to cut. When I had sliding glass I just got a secondhand security door and cut a hole in it, then I left the sliding bit open just wide enough for the dog to get through. The problem with this was that you can't keep the house warm but it was the cheapest solution since most secondhand screen doors are about $100.

I had to have a doggy door installed and the only option was cutting the glass sliding door. I was warned and it was at my risk, but went ahead with fingers crossed.   Crossed fingers didn't work and ended up costing me over $700 to have all the glass replaced with toughened glass which survived the cutting for the doggy door.

I didn't look at the link someone else has given you, but PigInMud do an installation that you can take with you as well.

Yeah it was piginthemud i was looking at. Their doors look fantastic but comes with a steep price. I was hoping I can go bunnings and pick up some bits and pieces and put one up myself.

Search the net.

You can get much cheaper deals on doggy doors on the net then you can in a shop.

you can get dog door 'inserts' for glass sliding doors. they are full length height and sits on the rails and locks into the locks on the sliding door.

I think they are called pigs in mud doors or something.
