This is my Rising Star 2105. Tjuringa Spice Is Nice aka Spice. The first time in the show ring for over 6 years for me and the first one I've not bred myself for over 12 years. This is the third litter of the same mating, (I bred her father) and from the previous litter there is a multiple BIS winner and from the first one a multiple Group winner. I'm hoping that Spice and I can continue the success.

First show is on Saturday. Spice is almost 5 months

My rising star is Phoebe, 7 months old now. Picked up a couple of baby in group and has merrily disgraced herself since turning 6 months old. We do have our first 6 points though  A friend has shown her her in this video, we won't be out much as my knee has died and I am waiting to see the surgeon. Warrior is at the front

Hey Rebanne, you need to stop feeding jumping beans!!!!. I have a feeling this is what Spice is going to be like in the ring. Either that or she will plant 4 feet firmly on the ground and pretend she cannot walk.

Oh well at least we can laugh at ourselves.

Well we had our debut last night in very hot and humid weather. Spice did me proud - and I did pretty well too. We were the only baby puppy in the breed and did not go any further but she enjoyed herself and moved around the ring and stood up and showed like she had been doing this forever. She does seem intent on using her front paws to play with any other dog near her which I clearly need to stop in the ring.

Looking at the lightening strikes and the pitch black clouds rolling in I was quite happy to be able to leave before the weather deteriorated any further

On Monday it was Spice's last show in Baby Puppy and she did us proud by winning BP in Group.

Showing seems to be totally natural for her. The first dog that I've had that stands there and says look at me. I so hope it continues.

This photo is of Spice in the Baby Puppy in Show line up, handled by her breeder.

Unfortunately it is not particularly clear as it was taken on a phone across the ring.

bit slow catching up but we have since had another show and Phoebe was much more settled. it helped there were no other greyhounds for her to chase

Be careful, Phoebe showed like a champ in baby puppy, got into minor and lost her head!

Well that would be about my luck. I'm still waiting for the puppy bubble to break as Spice has been the easiest puppy I've ever had. No weeing inside and only a few nights messing overnight in the early days (and once after worming) she has not chewed anything of significance in spite of the patio blinds flapping right up against her day bed and so on. I guess she will get to between 9 and 12 months and wammo!

Sunday is our first show in MP so I'll see what happens.

Wise words Rebanne. This weekend past Spice has acted like a complete novice in the ring for the first time. Every other show she has been to it is like she has been doing it forever, this weekend she behaved as I had expected her to do at the first shows.

However, despite that Spice did win BOB over older exhibits at the 3 shows we went to. Made the rain and cold weather worth coping with.

Photo below is of Spice in the General Specials ring after winning Minor Puppy in Group a few weeks ago. Unfortunately she did not go any further.

Oh and my bubble has burst as expected. Chewed up door mat, crate mats, decking, door frame, wall of kennel - albeit it was very old and had come loose- and so on.

Well done TeamSnag,. Being naughty in the ring at least shows she has attitude and is enjoying herself which is what it has to be about for these youngsters. I've found the judges are all happy to let Spice be a puppy instead of a cardboard cutout to this stage but there will come a time when better behaviour is expected so we need to find the balance of getting them to do it right without squashing their natural showmanship.

I agree.. I never push babies or thu minor...She always has fun out there and that's what I like.. No point showing a dog who hates it so much...

Well what fun we have been having. Spice has been to several shows now and apart from still wanting to play with the judge instead of standing nicely to be examined all is going well. I really need to have people she does not know go over her to train her to be more settled for the examination.

However having said that she has been awarded Minor Puppy in Group several times and when just 7 months old won 4 contested CC's on the trot.

Last Saturday, however, was the biggest buzz when Spice was awarded a 12 pt BOB over much older and experienced dogs. One of these is her older sister, an All Breeds BiS winner and another the BiS winner at the Airedale Terrier Club of Vic's Championship Show last year.

Our Club shows (2 Championship shows)are coming up in 2 weeks and we have a great entry by recent standards. I don't expect to be among the points there but hope to be able to keep our success going in the class. We have 2 breed specialists from USA judging so it will be interesting.

Photo of Spice taken at 8 months in the MPiS line up.

To anyone that is showing their Rising Star at the Melbourne Royal.......Good Luck. We will be there on Tuesday and also have a breed speciality show after the Royal judging. It will be a very tiring day.

Not looking forward to getting there and finding parking but once that is done I'm sure it will be most enjoyable.

ETA Spice is now a Junior (out of Puppy by just 5 days)

Been a bit quiet this thread this year. My rising star Phoebe is staying home :D

Good luck Spice :crossfingers:

What a day. Freezing cold winds, rain, sun, hail and very long. Spice showed really well at the Melbourne Royal but she stood alone in her class and did not go any further. It was wonderful though to see 4 bitches in the CC line up bred by her breeder. - Yes one of them did win, actually Spice's niece.

We then had an Airedale Terrier Club Speciality at the conclusion of Mr Zsolt Lokodi's Royal judging. This did not start until after 4.30pm so it was a long wait. However, I'm not complaining as Spice won Bitch Challenge, Best Opposite Sex in Show and Best Junior in Show and in doing so qualified for the title of Australian Champion.

To say I am delighted is an understatement. Her first CC was won at seven and a half months and her last at 12 months and one week. Along the way she has beaten Best in Show winners (All Breeds and Speciality) on several occasions and all of her points have been obtained at either KCC Park, Bulla or as yesterday the showgrounds.

Next year should be a lot of fun as she develops and matures. Today we are both having a well deserved rest from grooming but it will be back to work tomorrow..

I think my rising star has definitely risen.
