Hi I would really love your advice on adopting second golden retriever.

Currently I have a beautiful kind gentle 4 yr old desexed male that I adopted at 9 mnths

and would love yr advice on whether I should get a female or male?

[only ever had my 3 cuddly males.]

I am looking for 18 mnths to 3 1/2yr old gr

But am unsure whether it matters on sex when having 2 dogs

Please let me know yr experience

Thankyou

It is generally considered lower risk to get the opposite sex, with more chance of hostility between the same gender. Not that it won't work to get dogs of the same gender, many people do with great success including me. But you are probably weighting the odds a bit more in your favour by getting one of each. Once you find a likely propsect see if you can do a meeting between the 2 dogs on neutral territory before making a commitment and bringing her home, it will give you an idea of how their temperaments suit each other.

Hi thanks so much

It might be nice to have a girl

I am quite excited at the thought as I have only had my lovely boys

I am not sure how they will meet

As depends on where I will get her from

like pick up from owner/rehome from interstate /breeder etc

As its just me I dont have anyone to meet in a park etc

The ideal would be to have a 1/2 week trial but that rarely happens

I am definitely going by the owners description on temperament/personality

and will just wait for the right match,
