  1. Would depend on the weather I'd imagine, but with the mat (same material) I soak it once for the day and once more at night.
  2. Mine has the Silver Eagles cool mat. When it first arrived last summer, DH tested it out first, and Sasha didn't get to use it for 4 days When she finally did, she loved it :) Silver Eagle do human cooling products as well, and DH ended up buying a second cooling blanket for himself.
  3. This came up on my facebook feed, thought I'd repost here: There is a boarding kennel at 62 Brisbane Terrace Goodna with seventy dogs that will go under water later today. They are taking them to Mt Gravatt showgrounds but need people with dog trailers to get the dogs out. Anyone who can help call Sharon 0412 112 372
  4. A tip from another DOLer that worked for me is to put it inside melted cream cheese. Having it melted makes it stick to the tablet. Nuke it in the microwave for a few secs then mold it around the tablet into a little ball.
  5. Sasha had the runs when we got her, despite being on the same food as at the breeders. We tried the usual chicken & rice, saw the vet etc and nothing worked. It took us a week to work out it was the water. Once we switched her to bottled spring water it cleared up instantly. She had been on rainwater at the breeders, and wasn't used to the additives in town water. I wouldn't discount the possibility just because the vet thinks it's unlikely.
  6. We got a doggy door so most of the time she didn't need to. It didn't take her long to work out the flap, then she'd take herself outside whenever she needed to. On the occasions that the kitchen door was closed and she couldn't get out she'd bark at intervals while waiting at the door for us to open it. She's changed her tactic now, and will jump up and paw me instead. I guess every dog is different and you just have to work out their "language".
  7. Sasha didn't do well on Eukanuba. She was always hungry and had a weight problem. She's doing a lot better on BARF and I love feeling her ribs. She has a brilliant waist and her poos are smaller and firmer too.
  8. great thanks - we'll give it a go do you know how much it is (sorry for the hundreds of questions!) Helena on the Tuesday night is $12 That's the class I go to and we love it! You learn a lot from Helena. The class starts at 7pm.
  9. I'd skip the pasta. There's already a lot of grain in dry food without needing to add more.
  10. How old is your pup and how often are you bringing him outside to toilet? Don't growl at him. ETA: Just saw your pics in the other puppy thread. He's only a small wee thing. Constant vigilance is really needed at the beginning and they can't hold on for very long. When I got Sasha at 12 weeks I took her out almost every half to one hour. As soon as she woke, after a play, about 10-20 mins after eating, and sometimes if it just seemed she hadn't been in awhile. I also took her out 2-3 times a night. Her crate was in my bedroom and she let me know when she woke up and needed to go. It was a small crate with only room for her bed, no newspaper. It was EXHAUSTING but paid off as she's never had an accident indoors. We never did newspapers, she learned that the toilet was outside from day dot. I also used a cue word when I wanted her to go and praised praised praised when she did. She pees on command now. If you growl at him he'll just be scared of you and try to be sneaky about it. Just take him out more regularly. He doesn't know how to hold it yet, and won't be able to give you signals that he needs to go until he's older.
  11. I believe this is the case. Thanks for the info all, I'll point her to this thread so she can have a read.
  12. I'm a weekly washer too. I use a gentle, 100% natural dog soap that doesn't strip the oils in her coat, with a ACV rinse. It sits so well compared to other shampoos I've used that leave her coat fluffy and dry. The neem oil in it helps with fleas too. I use the face/body soaps and shampoo bars from the same company and it's the only one that doesn't leave my sensitive skin dry and itchy.
  13. A friend's family recently took on the care of 2 chis, a mother and son. Not sure how old the mother is but the boy is 1 yr old and only weighs 500gms. He's a sack of bones, and the previous owners used to hit him and abuse him so he's really really timid. He's better with the mum around, but barely eats and just curls and hides most of the time. If you lift your hand a little he immediately curls up and starts shivering. Friend's mother has tried hand feeding him but he won't have a bar of it. Can anyone suggest where to go to from here? Most importantly, what should they try feeding and how can they encourage him to eat?
