I love going to shows with my dogs, we also do herding as I believe a dog should be able to do what it was bred for.

Love to spend time on my property with my dogs & Ponies.
Collect anything to do with ponies & Australian Shepherds
1. I have some stunning leads I brou8ght off Donna Puttock, she hand makes them to your colours, handmade kangaroo leather, you can also have bling if you want &you can get them in 3 lengths. Andrea Bosco
2. Just wondering if anyone can reccommend or know of someone in Tassie who can help me learn this or head me in the right direction?? I looked on the TCA website but could not see anything that could help me. Or even some good tracking books or websites for the novice?? Andrea Bosco Waikikamukau Aussies Tlinglit Pony Stud
3. Loved the pics Amanda!!!! yeah its great to see the Aussies doing so well, I can't wait to get back out into it again after this litter though loving having thses bundles of joy running about, will miss them when they go to there new homes. Andrea Bosco, Scandal, Fern, Millie, Thowra, +9
4. I got into herding over 2 years ago with my Australian Shepherds, as I wanted to see what my dog could do besides showing. I will admit at first he was full on, but I was trained by a person who has represented Australia in sheep dog trails & who has been overseas & done clinics, & not once have I ever had any of mine grab hold of sheep. Aussies don't have alot of'eye' but will go in close & shoulder the livestock, mine know I won't put up with any nonsense from them & I ahve never had to muzzle them, I also live on acerage. I practice every week in different courses, we are lucky in Tassie ( Sth) that we have a property avaliable that has all types of courses/levels set up all the time & a range of different types of sheep, we have never had a problem with any dogs getting into the sheep, the owner must show first that the dog is under control, & to start with the dog is on leash. In the trails here the dogs is given a 'watch the sheep' warning one time, the second time your are asked to leave the trial area, I can say I have naver had this happen to me. yes I show my dogs & with great success, but I take offence that 'show' dogs can't herd, I have been told by many 'real' sheep traillers that my boy shows natural ability ( & yes his father from the USA also had ability) & I have been to clinics to learn more, & I am proud to say my first puppy from him is showing more ability than his father at nearly 8mths, at 7mths I first tried him on sheep, & in a few mins he was moving the sheep & showing alot of natural ablilty, I hope to continue trialing as I love it. Australian Shepherds are still used in most parts of America has farm dogs & are just as good on cattle/duck as they are on sheep, they ahve even been know to herd Bison. I think the bigger problem is handler, before starting I think handlers should learn to read the sheep, the best way to do that is go into a large pen area & try to move the sheep yourself, its not as easy as you think, & learn as much as you can in reading & going to watch trials & learn learn learn!!!! 5. Thanks for all the well wishes Sad to think some people think a ribbon is worht more than thier dogs health Scandal is a little better, still coughing, though now Millie has it & Fern, so its the sick ward here!! :p Poor Millie isn't feeling tool good, she is normally flat out playing but is laying about feeling sorry for herself ;) Fern has it now as well, so she has had her first tablets tonight Somehow think the pups will get it as they have been running with Fern. Yes my vet told me tonight a large borading kennel in Tassie has closed for the moemnt due to the outbreak, & they have been flat out with peple bringing dogs dogs in with kennel cough. For those showing this weekend in Tassie, keep an eye on your dogs!! Andrea, The Aussies & The Ponies
6. Went to a show last weekend with two of my dogs, but last night my boy started to have a hacking cough so took him to the vets to be told he had kennel cough so just have to keep an eye on the rest here & keep those seperated from the sick boy. My vet also said another dog who went to the same show was in yesterday with the same problem, & also some greyhound kennels it has gone through down here in Tassie, so just warning people to be careful at the moment, needless to say we won't be going anywhere. Am hoping who ever gave it to my dogs didn't go to the show knowing that their dog had it Also anyone know how long it normally stays about?? mine are all vaccinated etc, & Scandal is on antibiotics so am hoping he can shake it off soon. Will say it is worse than snoring, nothing like being woken up with a nosiy cough. Andrea, The Aussies, The Ponies
7. My beloved Border Collie cross was put to sleep today  Joe - 1991 -2006 15 years - RIP my mate Thanks for all the memories, even though you weren't a purebred you made up for it in so many ways, you taught me so much about myself both good & bad, remember the good times mate, going horse riding togther with me on pepper, while you chased those rabbits & on the odd occasion would bring one back to me, you could hear your yelp of exictement throughout the bush, so I knew where you were. Thanks for laying on the bed with me when I was sick & every night, & teaching me the joys of throwing the tennis balls & at the mention of the word 'ball' going & looking until you found one, as even though I thought I had them all up you'd still go out & find one in your stash, which I never found. For those times you gave me comfort & just being with me on the property, for the long night you stayed with me in the car on 'foal watch' keeping me company. Thanks for also keeping my Aussies in line, they learnt so much from you, Scandal has BIG paws to fill & I know you will look down at us & I hope you are enjoying chasing the 'bunnies' & the tennis balls, say hello to Dusty for me & especially Pepper. I will be with you too someday, until then thanks for all the memories, I will never forget. Love Andrea, The Aussies, The Ponies
8. WTG Sam & Cooper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That makes him Aussie #2 to get his PT title :D great to see them doing what they do best. Goodluck in the next level 'Herding Started A' Scandal has one pass at this level so another two to go, need to calm him down, little bugger gets so excited at times, though he does know more than me. Andrea, The Aussies, The Ponies
9. Think that is why I have obedience away, I had fun in the early levels with my boy & took it slow, but once I reached the third level, Scandal just didn't enjoy it & I could tell, as before he used to jump into the car & all of a sudden he didn't, & once there he just didn't want to do anything, was also told he was just being naughty by one instructor, so needless we stopped going ( funny thing was so did a few others!! ) I did take my girl for puppy classes, mainly for the social outings. But stopped going altogether & decided to try herding & they love it, I still use some obedience with them in training but its fun fun fun & when I grab my leash on Sunday's Scandal jumps & barks & spins around Would love to maybe do obedeince oneday again but I found the massive group too much & you didn't get enough one-on-one, & yes I do believe there are more people skills needed & no one should say 'ANY' dog is hopeless, as everydog is different & worth training. Andrea, The Aussies, The Ponies
10. Yes I give some to my dogs too, actually was brought for the ponies but decided to try the dogs who LOVE it. yep mine love to eat horse feed too Andrea, The Aussies, The Ponies, & Joe
11. Hi Barb!! How are things going with the herding?? Not much here, another trial in September, Scandal is doing well, go most weekends & have just been walking with him & the sheep, going around obstacles & penning the sheep, think he'd prefer more than three sheep though, did that at lance's a whole flock & he was good, plus now I know he respects the sheep & knows to be gentle, took me MONTHS of work though & we are still learning. *g* Maybe we will get invited to have a go at another sheep trial, think this time Scandal will be better!! Fern will enter her next leg she has been in season so haven't been able to practice with her, I need to build her confidence up ( & mine) ;) though she is more slower & steadier at times. Millie my puppy is 4mths mainly on a long leash so I have control, otherwise she isn't afraid & is flat out, trying to teach her to come to me when called & lots of praise!! Hopefully Lance or someone will hold a weekend senimar in the warmer months as I learnt so much just over those few weekends. Andrea, The Aussies, The Ponies & Joe
12. *lol* Cheryl well you will have to come down to Tassie again to visit!!!! ;) Kelpie: I only use the leash on a young puppy in a very small round yard (wouldn't use a leash on an older dog) until they are more confident & they come back to me, just incase of a sheep having a go at her, mind you the other week one hit my kneecap *ouch* Andrea, The Aussies, The Ponies & Joe
13. Hi I have Aussies I herd with, my older boy doesn't like to drop, so I taught him the sit which I normally only have to say twice, & I say 'wait' if I am opening a pen or gate, I did let him get comfortable with the sheep first before starting the commands, & he loves herding, *g* he sacres me though as before a trial he will be outside, whining, barking, pulling carrying on & I think "help" but once I walk off leash ;) through that gate he stays with me & won't go until I give him the command of "get out" My girl Fern will sit but isn't keen but she is more calmer, I am at the moemtn teaching her to sit & wait for me. Millie my 4mth old I have already started on sheep, in a small round pen, I have to be carefulas she is full on isn't afraid which worries me trying to keep an eye on her & a sheep that is giving her the 'eye'!! She is on leash at the moemnt, but I have a few times let the leash go still on so I can grab it if neccessary, I am trying to teach her at the moment just to'come' to me even if she is moving a sheep & a drop/sit, I do use food at the moment with her & LOTS of praise. Andrea, The Aussies, The Ponies & Joe (Border croos kelpie)
14. My Australian Shepherd Scandal LOVES water, even as a puppy he loved being bathed, I even found him one day at my mothers, he was missing inside the house & we found him in the bath full of bubbles just waiting for someone to come & wash him My bitch Fern isn't as keen but will play with the hose & will actually put her whole muzle noe & all in her water bucket & blow bubbles. Andrea, Scandal, Fern ;)
