  1. I was 14 years old when I got my very first dog. I got a golden retriever and I haven't looked back, He was a amazing dog, very intelligent, easy to train, willing please me, loved all the attention, I could walk him off lead at all times. I did everything with him and took him everywhere I went. He knew all his commands sit, drop, sit/stay, drop/stay, come, heel, leave, ignore. He was the most easy dog to look after and he loved to retrieve toys and would do so all day long. I am now 32 years old and own 2 more golden retrievers who are just as great as my first. If your after a great kids dog one willing to do anything, easy to train and loves to be around you. You can't go past the golden retriever.
  2. My male golden retriever Axel is the same he barks at some strangers when out on walks and some he will run up to them for a pat. What I did with Axel is when he started barking I would call him, tell him to sit then look at me then reward. I had this problem since he was a puppy, took him to a behaviourist which said to do the sit look at me then reward. It did work but then he started working out himself I can bark then go to mummy sit and look and I'll get a treat. So now I get him to do sit, stays which works. My dog is a bit different some people he will bark his head off at but then other people he will run up to wanting a pat. I now let Axel choose who he approaches. He also has a thing about dogs if the dog shows aggression towards him he will retaliate to it, but if the dog is friendly he will happy play with him/her. Axel is now 2 years old and weighs in at 36kgs
  3. Rascal has slowed his scooting and I had to stop feeding the prime 100 crocodile as he was starting to eat things he shouldn't be, But since re introducing some kibble and the nature goodness meat roll he has stopped eating things he shouldn't. Shelleys baseball poos have stopped and she is completely back to normal. So its all going good here for the time being.
  4. I'm not forcing him to exercise he goes at his pace and it is all off lead. His on steroids as he is scooting his bottom on the floor all the time, vets gave us cream to put on his bum didn't work, his wormed regularly, he was wormed just 3 weeks ago. He scoots till his bum is bleeding. Vet wanted to try steroids and a 1 protein diet before jumping in to see if its cancer or something in the bowel. Rascal has had a lot gone wrong he has had his anal glands removed cause they ruptured and couldn't be fixed so they had to be removed. Before you say its diet that caused his anal glands to rupture it wasn't he was feed big dog barf patties and got chicken necks 2-3 times a week.
  5. Yes only has started since feeding the prime 100 crocodile he was fine when feed the big dog barf patties he never act like he was starving with the patties.
  6. We need new vets in my area. I have been demanding the vets to do the tests but they won't. Shelley my golden went to the vet yesterday as she had eaten the outside of a baseball, vet didn't want to test for thyroid till she has [assed all of the baseball she had eaten. He said that the tests could come back wrong due to the baseball been eaten. As for Rascal they said even with medication for diabetes he might not lose weight. Said its like humans when on insulin some lose it some stay the same and some gain it, They also said why bother as his a 10 year old dog. Everytime I ask them to do the blood tests they refuse to do it.
  7. That's not very nice I am doing what I can, I clean my dogs yard everyday most of the time twice a day. Rascal has a bad habit of doing his poo then turn around and eat it I can't exactly follow him around the yard 24/7. My vet said eating his poo is a very bad habit to get them to break, specially if they eat it straight after they have done it. They also said eating poo wouldn't cause his weight gain. Vet also said if its diabetes there not much that can be done for his weight. His eating dirt etc now cause his hungry I would hate too see what he would eat next if I cut him back anymore. for the last 4 days his been on 40 minute walks. When he was young he was getting feed the same amount but going on 1-2 hour walks a day and still wouldn't lose weight. The vets I have seen all believe he has diabetes and probably won't lose weight. Same goes with my female golden vet believes she has either thyroid problems or diabetes which is why she won't lose weight, Vet said to bring her back when she is going to toilet better and test for thyroid. So vets believe 2 of my dogs have medical problems which is why there not losing weight. My male golden and my whippet are in prefect health weightwise everything.
  8. well Rascal my Chihuahua is getting about 80grams of the prime 100 crocodile and his acting like his starving to death,His going around picking up dirt etc and eating it. I was feeding it to my 2 goldens and the same thing shelley my female got that hungry she ate the outside of a baseball thankfully its passing through her poo. So my goldens have been put back on big dog barf patties, same with my whippet. My Chihuahua Rascal is still on the crocodile as the vets want him on a protein he hasn't had before for 6 weeks.
  9. I do agree with you in some point but if the dog or bitch isn't a good quality of its breed it should be desexed, All crossbreeds should be desexed too. In my area the pound is full most of the time, mostly crossbreeds. But in saying that I remember the old days where crossbreeds where free to good home now people are asking the same amount if not more for a crossbreed then a purebred.
  10. The price from petstock here Mildura Victoria is $18.99 for a 2kg roll.
  11. does that make me a irresponsible dog owner cause all my dogs are desexed? I own 2 females and 2 males. I choose to desex cause I wasn't interested in breeding and cause I didn't want to risk problems.
  12. He gets no treats but does have a very bad habit of eating dog poo. His a fat Chihuahua weighing in at 5.9kgs, He was even chubby as a puppy. When he was younger he was going for 1-2 hour walks and still wouldn't lose weight. Vet believes he may have diabetes aswell but due to his age said to let it be. Please don't judge me I am doing everything I can I make him walk around the yard, Just need to cut back on his food intake. So far Rascal is loving the new diet and his steroids seem to be helping. I don't feed kibble here as my male golden Axel can't handle kibble even grain free.
  13. Yes might have to cut him back to 80grams a day. In saying that I will have family complaining that his not getting enough.
  14. Thanks I might have to cut him back a bit more then what I am giving at the moment his getting 50grams morning and night. His exercise isn't much due to arthritis in his back leg. But I do get him walking around the yard which is 3/4 acre block.
