  1. Not for NSW trials, you're covered by the club :) Are both aussielover and Eyolf are in the ACT, maybe you could throw dummies for each other? I have a remote thrower, which doesn't use a charge so isn't noisy. It's the type of thrower used at RATG's & retrieving trials here, although usually without the remote part. You can only load one dummy/pigeon at a time though unlike a bumper boy which can have multiple dummies. Unfortunately I've misplaced the remote to my thrower Yep I'm in Canberra not sure where aussielover is. That thrower sounds good, might have to look for one of them!
  2. I train mostly on my own, but when I can find someone I get them to throw the dummies for me. I do it the same way you do when I'm on my own, we are only doing short retrieves at the moment so I'm not finding it to bad. I suppose we might have that issue once we start doing longer and harder retrieves, and then I might consider getting a dummies thrower.
  3. You better get used to the impulse control games because you are going to need them for the rest of your tollers life And just when you think you have it sussed, you enter a trial, and they make it look like you have never played a single IC game in your life Great to hear that you are enjoying the training Lol I can imagine that happening ???? he keeps me on my toes. At least his keen haha impulse control we will have to work on especially around the water retrieves!
  4. Thanks, that's fair enough I will watch for the next time they run a beginners one. I will try some impulse control games then, I didn't think of that. Thank you ???? I'm really starting to enjoy retrieving now that's it's all starting to come together.
  5. Hey everyone :) So I've been working on building confidence in my toller which has worked really well thanks to TSD's advice :) my new problem is that now he is massively keen that he doesn't wait to be sent, he breaks as soon as the bumper hits the ground. I don't want to ruin his confidence cause that is awesome now but need to fix this. How is steadiness usually taught? I noticed that Victoria did a beginners training day last year, do they do one every year? Thanks :)
  6. My Labrador, that everyone has an opinion about the breed. My toller, I got nothing lol something that might bother other people but I don't really mind is the toller scream!
  7. Haha I have a dog the same! I manage a kennel and we have dogs that come in that get fed with stones on top of the biscuits or we put the food in a wobble Kong. We even had one dog that had to have his biscuits put into a cupcake baking tin lol
  8. Some kennels allow you to bring toys. So she could have her Kong ect during the stay to play with.
  9. She is too cute. Look at those ears lol
  10. Thanks for the great reply TSD, I'll post back with how I go ????
  11. Hey ???? I have a couple of questions I'm hoping someone can help me with. My lab keeps cheating and going around the long way rather then going in a straight line. I'm not sure how to get her to stop with that, any ideas? My toller seems to be lacking confidence, he goes out strong and then just looses it half way through, he also seems to get confused with my thrower person and goes up to them. I'm thinking I should go back to shorter retrieves with him? Congrats on the puppies TSD how exciting!
  12. My sisters toy poodle plays fine with my two 20kg dogs, my dogs are very gentle with the poodle so we have no problems.
  13. I could easily go another gun dog, but may look into a GSD or Mal next, depending on if I can handle one lol
  14. I think people do think I'm crazy, but no one has said it haha. When I first quit my job as a beauty therapist and started working as a kennel hand at a boarding kennel, people use to call it my hobby job and they would always suggest i work for so and so who is looking for a new beauty therapist! Now that I work full time as a manager at the boarding kennel people have stopped calling it a hobby and now say how nice it is!
