  1. So she's not too young for chicken wings and bones? wasn't sure when to start feeding them to her and was going to be a question I asked.
  2. Oh good! I am glad it's ok for during the day!! It gets sunlight between 10 and 4 during winter... and I noticed the kennel floor has gaps in the "floor" of it too. Its the bunnings pet villa medium size. Her mum was a lab/kelpie. dad was jack Russell. NO idea how they would have done it LOL
  3. Thanks for the welcome tikira!! Attatched a pic of tusker they sent me before I picked her up and a picture of her pen :) SO lucky I kept her in tonight, just had some random crazy hail storm pass over!
  4. mixeduppup - shes on purina supercoat puppy. :) from the research I did before I got her I did read they need 3-4 smaller meals a day so I might try that now.. thanks for that info Persephone! I do know she was due for worming but she wouldn't take it so I chopped it up smaller into her food it wasn't left in her bowl so I hope to god she ate it.
  5. Yeah, its a 5 week course that needs to be done before shes 16 weeks
  6. It has all definitely been a huge learning process and we're only 3 days in!
  7. Yep, she was fully vet checked, vaccinated, and microchipped before we picked her up. And got a folder with all that info in there. Feeding routine is the same as what the people who sold her to us were doing, once in the morning then once at night. But she doesn't eat it all so there has been leftovers, they couldn't tell me how much to give her as they just filled the tray and the litter went nuts. I just went off what the packet says for her age. Her name is Tusker - my username :) and I just put a pic of her in my avatar!! <3
  8. thanks heaps for all the helpful posts since I last posted. Being a newbie puppy owner I came for help. Not to be grilled. She woke again at 10pm so we brought her inside for the night. She didn't make a peep all night. Did wee & poo inside but that's expected. might leave newspaper out tonight? As I've read they can whimper when they need to be let out? but she didn't. Let her back outside at 11am, swear she pooped enough to last a week lol. put her back In her pen around 12/12:30 when I had to do some stuff inside, then go out for the day, she barked for 15 mins then was ok... I just got home and she's still quiet so hopefully napping in her kennel. I bought her a little doggy jumper today. Also booked in for puppy school starting next Monday so hoping we get a lot out of that too... I have been messaging the trainer as well and she also said to bring her in at night so I think with all the feedback I have been given I will keep her in over winter and until she is a little older. Looking forward to HOPEFULLY getting some positive feedback and help in other aspects over the life of my new puppy. Another quick q for anyone still reading - should I be waiting til after her 12 week vaccinations before taking her out for walks?? She will be socializing with other dogs at puppy school its just making sure she doesn't eat other pups poop right?
  9. would keeping her outside in her pen during the day while we're out be acceptable in winter?
  10. So I am just meant to bring her in every winter because its cold outside? Thanks Rebanne!! Will look into them!! and the teddies!!
  11. thanks for the help mixeduppup - when did you start putting them outside to sleep then?
  12. the cheap bed is inside an expensive kennel. So I am guessing most of us here are all for the inside dog then. ETA - she was sleeping outside at the place we got her from, I know she would have had her litter with her then too but thought the hot water bottle would help with that?
  13. Hi all, newbie to this forum and to owning a puppy. Yesterday we picked up our 8 week old lab x kelpie pup who we named tusker. We have her set up outside in a done up old chicken coop so kind of like a pen, has her kennel, food, toys, shelter and some space for her in there. We have one of those $6 circle pet beds from big w, 2 pet blankets from kmart, a cut off the blanket from her litter where we got her and a hot water bottle for night in her kennel. First night she barked for about an hour then fell asleep, she woke at 5:30am barking and I had a bad anxiety attack over what to do as I didn't want to piss off the neighbours, so I went down to top up her food and came back inside which only made her more distressed. so I ended up getting her and bringing her inside to our laundry (which is between our bedroom and bathroom) She remained quiet for the rest of the morning! Today, had to leave around 9am to take my son to playgroup and go have an ultrasound of my next bub so left her in the laundry til 8:15.. then took her back outside, fed her, played with her for 20-30 mins then locked her back into her pen, she barked straight away, but no idea how long for as I had to leave. Came home at 1:30-2pm and played with her ALL afternoon as I felt bad for leaving her all morning, she napped on my lap for 20mins at one stage. Once it got dark around 5:30pm and hubby got home I got her hot bottle water ready again, food and puppy milk. Left her in her pen and came inside, she barked for maybe 15-20 mins then silence! I thought AWESOME 2nd night was much better, but about an hour later she atarted up again and probably continued for an hour and a half! She's finally quiet again now so hoping she is out for the night. I also left notes for the neighbours to apologise for the early wake up and we are really wanting to have her be an outside dog and we appreciate their patience while she settles, one got back to us saying it was no problem but the other we have not heard from. What I guess I want to know is, am I doing the right thing?? Should I be letting her bark it out? or should I be calling out "enough" or should the first week or so should we keep her in the laundry? (I really don't want her getting used to that though) We are looking at taking her to a puppy school soon too. I just hate the anxiety that comes with listening to her bark! I just hope I am doing the right thing.
