There is two treatment requirements to be met: first: internal and external parasite treatment and blood test second: two weeks later internal and external parasite treatment puppy can then then fly out that evening or following day, depending on location of arrival (Auckland or Christchurch) and suitable flight from departure city. First treatment can cost between $400-$600 depending on vet used. Second around $120 airfreight is dependant in crate size so does vary (I can always work out a price for you) upon arrival in NZ there is normally MPI inspection fee of $268 and NZ Customs charges and that is a variable based on value of dog. 15%GST in NZ. In Victoria, the Department of Agriculture has tried to regulate dog training establishments. Only six organisations have been approved by the Minster of Agriculture. Each organisation has to supply to the Minister a number of documents including training manuals/memberships/financials/meeting minutes and ongoing training undertaken etc on a yearly to three year basis in order to become/remain as an Approved Dog Training Organisation. note the qualifications offered by some organisations as certificate courses are recognised under the National Qualification Framework but are not recognised under Department of Agriculture. Separate criterias must be met in order to have an academic qualification as well as being an approved dog training establishment. Some councils are now asking dog training establishments to be approved dog training establishments if they wish to use council owned facilities. At the end of the day you can know all the theory but as an instructor if you cannot relate to people and explain methods of training methods suitable for their dog then you may not be a suitable instructor.

Good news for everyone in Canberra!!! At long last! Virgin Airlines Cargo Canberra will be able to accept inbound animals from Monday 14th March with out bounds being accepted from Tuesday 29th March 2016. From the amount of pet transport enquiries for rates and booking requests we have had already this will be a sought after port. Compared to Qantas -Rates Are down with bigger savings for bigger crates! All freight animals will be charged at actual rate not volumetric, this alone is a saving. Like you, we have multiple sites and received notices from multiple councils, hence the reason we spoke with DPI to ascertain if we only had to pay with the municipality of where our office is registered or with each/all councils. The reply was we had to register with all councils that we do work in! We have to register in each municipality where a behavourist does a home visit! Our notices have a minimum fee which is $100 in most of the municipalities and $200 in another. $2000 goes no where!!! We are one of only a handful of dog training organisations registered with DPI as a recognised dog training organisation and The Minister of Agriculture has approved our training plans, procedures and policy manuals yet we have to be vetted against the Code of Practice that has been pointed out to DPI on numerous occasions, does not even relate to our type of industry in that we offer classes, private sessions and behaviourist work and that we train assistance dogs whilst the current Code of Practice is geared towards boarding and training organisations/establishments!

Department of Primary Industry has instructed all councils within the State of Victoria to follow up on Dog Training Establishments within their municipality within Victoria to ensure that anyone offering "Dog Training" must be registered as a Domestic Animal Business. Registration is due annually and Councils have been instructed to follow up on dog training business to ensure that they are registered as Domestic Animal Businesses. According to DPI: "If you offer any sort of "dog training" you must be registered.". This does not mean that you have to be qualified as a dog trainer it means that you must be registered as a Domestic Animal Business. So no matter if you offer only a puppy pre-school, full obedience or behaviourist work within a municipality, you must be registered with that municipality. DPI have indicated that if you work in more than one municipality you must be registered in each municipality that you offer "dog training" or advice. Fees are set by the local councils but $10.00 of every fee has to be forwarded to DPI. Council fees have varied from $100-$200 depending on local council. Information from DPI is that puppy classes being offered at local vets and pet shops are not excluded from prosecution if they are not registered. DPI have also indicated that local councils are able to set their own requirements on domestic animal businesses above the requirements of the Domestic Animals Act, including requirements to have Town Planning Permits and local laws and determining areas that dog training can occur. Registration is to occur annually by 10th April of each year.

The document does not support their argument! (The comparison is a 30 day stay versus a 10 day stay). Maybe I read it incorrectly but let's say that if they had 200 dogs kennelled previously stay in a month then that is how they have based their assumptions. Reality is they can have up to 600 dog stays in the same 30 day period as new dogs entering every 10 days into a vacating kennel. Say 200 kennels (which it the amount of kennelling to be built at new facility at Mickleham according to AQIS), at $39.00 per day would return $234000 every 30 days The proposed increase would generate $894000 for the same 30 days (remembering that 3 times the amount of dogs will be able to go through the quarantine station in the thirty day period). But then again they may out price themselves!! Add to this the increase for cats to $149.00 per day also then the costs of PEQS will show a yearly profit of a couple of million dollars. Imagine a boarding kennel charging those rates! Other than a few checks by AQIS veterinary staff they are no different to a boarding kennel! Except at $149.00 per day would not be classified as a luxury kennel facility. Even the new design for the one new facility to be built at Mickleham would not be classified as luxury. There is no mention of additional services being provided! Walking dogs, brushing dogs, special diets being catered for included in the costs. Will there be a cap? As previously mentioned if there has been a problem of paperwork and they require more information from country of export they have added additional days before release until they are furnished with information they require. Maybe they should of thought of that before reducing to ten days. Surely they would have known that from past experiences. No staff on site 24 hours a day, And as for interstate owners once Eastern Creek is closed then every animal departing quarantine in Melbourne will have additional expenses.

I always suggest to breeders/exhibitors to see if they can make savings wherever possible. I have even taken dogs on tickets with me when I have flown to save people some money. Not sure the significance of the border collie national in Melbourne, the people were asking for 22kg dog from Perth to Brisbane! Same specifications as your earlier post. May I suggest that someone has read the post and enquired to see what my prices would be!

$480.00 is the unaccompanied price including crate hire

The $135.00 amount is normally for accompanied animal price. Crate hire is usually extra and varies depending on company that you hire from. Virgin Airlines allow for two passenger animals and four freight animals per flight, so early bookings are recommended. Qantas passenger animals numbers vary depending on the size of aircraft being used. Based on the information provided, as a guide, a 22kg dog from Perth to Brisbane including crate hire is $480.00. Not sure why, but have had three calls this afternoon asking for the same specifications!!!

Based on information provided you would be looking at $220.00 including hire crate.

As a guide you are looking around $2300AUD at the moment using a PP60 (under $2000 if using a PP50). 4 dogs to Lax (Keeshond) size would be under $5000AUD using pp60s. As the freight volume increases per consignment the rate per kg decreases.

We spoke with AQIS when they first approached the idea of a single quarantine station for Australia. They stated that the logistical dilemma of getting dogs to Melbourne was still to be sorted out as they realised not every airline landed in Melbourne. Last year AQIS sent the dogs in Quarantine at Byford to Eastern Creek to complete their remaining quarantine. These dogs went via domestic airlines, not with other animals! There were no early releases! The owners were contacted and asked if they wanted their pets to be released from Eastern Creek or sent back to WA for collection. Most people from eastern seaboard requested release from Eastern Creek!
