Chronic Skinny Dog - I Sure Could Use Some Help Pls!
JulesP replied to Stitch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I agree with you Erny. I don't believe Amber is being fussy just to annoy me. Interestingly she also gets rashes and the things she doesn't like to eat seem to be the things that give her a rash - chicken and fish. -
If there is a problem with the grounds due to heaps of rain a trial might be cancelled or moved here.

Chronic Skinny Dog - I Sure Could Use Some Help Pls!
JulesP replied to Stitch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
No real ideas Stitch but wanted to offer support as I also have a fussy dog. An example is yesterday. In the morning she had minced chicken frames. She ate it but looked like I was trying to poison her. Ears all droopy, sad eyes, dropping food out of her mouth etc. At night she had a chicken frame - grabbed it very eagerly and ran off all happy to eat it. She will eat a kibble for a couple of days and then refuse to eat it too. Cal Natural was the last kibble refused. She eats the Black Hawk but I think the brewers yeast in it is causing a rash. She doesn't like cooked meat. Wouldn't touch the Barf patties at all. Her fav is mince and rice and she also loves bones. She hates all veggies too. Find what she will eat and feed that. -
Potential Herding Or Agility Dog Needs A Home!

Err why? -
Bloody Amber will only eat the BH/Holistic Lamb & Rice!! I just tried her with Nutro again and she looked like I was torturing her. She gets one piece in her mouth, pretends to chew, lets it drop out, all the while looking at me with the saddest face ever. She isn't super piggy with the BH but at least she eats it but it does seem to give her a slight rash on her belly.

Good luck WA folks and have fun at the pub Sue & Cindy unless your body position is putting Cindy backwards, as in your left shoulder is back, I would be doing heaps of excitement building stuff using food. Tease her with her fav food until she is bouncing, walk a couple of steps and then chuck food forwards. That sort of thing.

I wouldn't buy a oven without researching and getting reviews, word of mouth recommendations etc so it was the same when I got my first puppy.

I think it is up to the dog owner to know whether you can or can't park on common ground. The main thing that used to stress me about units was whether i could get back out again! So ask about that. And I found people tended to lie a bit! If worried, walk in first! I had a pretty big water tank so didn't have to plug into a hose to do 1 - 2 dogs. So depending on your tank you might have to ask about water taps. You also need electricity obviously so ask if you can you get your power cord into their unit.

I would be concerned that allowing the dog to move position whilst doing this calming could stuff up a formal stay later on.

Wheaten is just an incorrect name for a red border collie. Although to be fair a lot of them do look more wheaten than red. Red is the correct name though.

Had I said 'slate merle' without explaining the actual dilution etc I imagine that some people would not have known what I was talking about.

Yes I'm afraid I couldn't have a lesson with Ivan as I would be giggling like a school girl Joe regardless of who the trainer is or what they have done I tend to consider whether the theory makes sense rather than blindly thinking it must be good just because of the person that said it. I might have a play and see how it works. It is not good to be closed off to any idea because of the person delivering it. You might get one little thing from the person that makes a difference.
-
That's a slate merle. I didn't say that silver was a correct term did I? I was suggesting what colour the puppy might actually be.
-
I'm interested that you ask for a down for this Aidan2. When I teach tethering work I am careful to make sure that no sit/down/stay commands are given as once away from the dog it is too hard to control the dog breaking position. I just require that the dogs aren't pulling on the tether and barking.
-
Silver might be a dilute blue merle. Blue merle is usually black with merle. If you had a blue dog with merle it's solid bits would be blue so more errr silvery. Lilac is chocolate diluted. You don't see them around much but fairly easy to get that colour if you wanted to.

I am trying to avoid chicken too and find it rather annoying that heaps of these products have chicken fat in them.

This is done by a Rally-O judge but shows the foot work quite well. http://www.youtube.com/user/RallyJudge#p/u/78/okupTwfFw-k I stopped being a sook and went to training. Poppy did a very nice CCD/CD round. Pretty happy. I swear the less training I do with her now the better she is. Amber was pretty good. The food in on the ground has really helped her stand for exam. She is still looking for me on the return but is keeping her feet still now.

Talcum powder works well for a dry wash. Just rub through the coat and then brush out. Maybe a crate might be an idea for sleeping. Save your hair anyway.

I prefer to be able to pick up my dog food whenever too. Lucky for me I can get an identical product to Black Hawk in my local produce store. I have been feeding this product for over a year now btw which is why I post in this thread.

I would NEVER tell a handler that they were crap. That is really bad instructing. Now unless you have given your dog to someone else to train, it is you that has produced a dog that is ready. Therefore YOU are ready too! My aim is always a pass. I am not going to win. I got a little bit freaked out by the whole winning thing at the trial I did. But I know that you do drop points due to nerves so I usually aim to be sitting on a very high percentage in practice before I enter. Anyhow you are braver than me. I got told I was crap and haven't been to training since ;)

dee lee if the BIL family doesn't have dogs they probably just don't understand. They wouldn't know about crates, staying on mats etc. So maybe explain all that to them. I don't take my dogs to people's houses unless we are doing a dog activity. I wouldn't be super happy if someone came over and wanted their dog in say the lounge room, as my dogs don't go in the lounge. I have 2 rooms that are enclosed verandas. One is a lovely family room and the other is a mud room. I am sure Honey would be very happy in either of my enclosed verandas.

We will save you a seat at the pub OSoSwift Going to the pub sounds fun

It was a BH feeder though that started the talk on the other feed because she had run out whilst on hols. The moral of the story is take double the amount of dog food away! It wasn't like the other feed people came in here and said BH is crap feed our feed. Just to be fair and all that.
-
It is a little :D To be fair it did start innocently though. Black Hawk haven't paid for this to be an exclusive thread either so I guess people can give views on other foods. Both are of course advertisers on DOL.
