  1. Hi- diarrhoea is a worry in puppies, as they go downhill rapidly. It can be simply from change of diet too rapidly, or it can be a very serious symptom. definitely see the vet!! Don;t forget to tell the vet exactly what pup was fed at the rescue, and since you have had him, what worming treatment he has had, and what vaccinations he has received. A puppy from a rescue may have picked something up en route- eating a kangaroo leg on teh farm seems an unlikely cause- our puppies eat all sorts of dead things, and don't seem to suffer! It would have been more responsible for the rescuer to not rehome a puppy with diarrhoea best of luck with him...
  2. Anal glands have emptied, or are leaking.... What does she get fed? have you ever had her anal glands expressed at the vets or anywhere? Anal glands express when a dog is very frightened, often. usually they empty when a dog defecates- and transmit the dog's scent onto the droppings. Modern diets often don't contain enough bone/fibre to produce nice firm stools to help squeeze out the glands .. so the glands then fill up, and either leak, or need to be emptied Your vet or groomer will show you how, if needed- , or perhaps she needs a slight change in food ...
  3. HI- what size/resolution do you send your pics at? To retain teh quality, you can send them at full resolution-BUT, most people do not want to have 2,3,4, megapixel photos arriving- on slower connections, they take ages to open, then they fill up your hard drive I use PICASA mostly for emailing pics- as they are done automatically, and altho smaller, are still quite good quality- not much detail lost. have a read here- emailing photos The other alternative, (which I use more & more), is to put your pics up on an online site, such as Flickr, photobucket, or the picasa web album- and then everyone can go and see the pictures themselves
  4. Our dogs used to get it a lot when there were foxes around- a few malawash baths sorted it out- and it never spread. I did learn- and anytime there was a fox kill, the dog/s were bathed immediately in malawash- not a problem before malawash, as a kid I remember the dogs suffering from sarcoptic mange badly- then it was sump oil and sulphur... which worked, but not as well..
  5. VET ADVICE!! If there were nasty effects from the ingestion- and you had not spoken to a vet --- you would feel very guilty, I would imagine
  6. NO-but he also knows who is 'leader'- and my guess is that it is your husband. he is a puppy of a breed which is meant to focus on moving things Puppies use their mouths to play. Puppies chase and chew. Puppies need lots of physical exercise and pyschological exercise Owners need to set out the rules from the minute the puppy comes home. if the rules are not 'set in stone', or the owners are too 'kind' and 'loving' the puppy will make his/her own rules having not had a pup do this, I can't be of help... The stamping foot thing, tho may not be a good idea. you do NOT want him to be fearful of you, or loud noise, or a sudden movement.... can you carry a water pistol and squirt him? when you are with him... try having a toy handy- if he is focussed on the toy being rolled, thrown- then he won't be chasing you! He is a working breed, and may need more to 'do' than he's getting.....
  7. I haven't heard of this method before It sounds to me like you are 'testing ' the dog with a treat...when she doesn't know how to walk yet... Why not take her out ,on a long straight boring walk... she will get tired eventually LOL. I also recommend the walk in a straight line.. until she pulls- then do an about turn.. no speaking, just an unexpected about turn-pulling the dog with you, and praise for following correctly....repeat, repeat repeat... I also find that being calm and not vocal helps... pay attention to what you can see, smell, etc. Don't try and engage the dog in conversation, or be enthusiastic... a walk is an everyday ,boring thing... no excitement, no need to hurry, no reward to anticipate... just the walk.......This seems to transfer to the dog...
  8. Try one of the fuji finepix range HERE I have a finepix S8000fd. photos HERE
  9. oh poor boy- hope they stabilise him soon, and have him bouncing shortly!!
  10. Yep- maybe the ultrasound will pick up something an xray cannot 'see' . With Hamlet, they gave him barium (opaque on xray) balls to swallow, and tracked their progress, as his obstruction (leaves etc) didn't show on xray. When the barium balls stopped moving- they showed up as a clump in the xray, so the surgeon knew exactly where to go in and remove the junk. All went well, as it will with your boy
  11. It may well be a physical problem, which needs diagnosing...what tests did the vet do? If other blood/urine tests etc come back normal, try her on some rescue remedy..
  12. I've been thru this with Hamlet!... thinking of you .
  13. Sounding good now They do sound lovely vets! Lucky you (and Phoebe :D )
  14. Slightly off topic- but could there be a physical reason your girl doesn't want to jog uphill? Has she been all checked out in regards to any joint/muscle isues?? or something else- to do with the noise the bike makes in a lower gear, or something?? if she were mine, I would be addressing this ,before buying more equipment
  15. good that is has now gone, and is nothing drastic.
  16. a salivary gland can block and clear- the thing is to then find out why it's blocking- is there a physical barrier, is it a crystalline blockage, or what my mum has a blocked duct- and she also gets a swelling under the jaw. We do solve it temporarily (hers is due to crystals) by her sucking a piece of lemon! The gland squirts out extra saliva in a hurry and flushes the crystals away  (til next time)
  17. She'' ll be fine, I'm sure- just look a bit odd with a shaved tail
  18. The vet should have given you dietary suggestions- AFAIK- pancreatitis dogs need to be watched carefully-.... Maybe a second opinion with a vet you feel comfortable with? Hope the vomiting settles down quickly
  19. Oh that's sad- I hope she can be made comfortable...
  20. Oh fifi- that is terrible news. I am so sorry- bloat/torsion is a curse- and a sneak. Tamsyn , RIP.
  21. My first thought was salivary gland blockage- but ,coupled with the 'honking'- maybe something else?
  22. If he wants an slr that isn't ... try the fuji finepix S8000fd which is what I have . Not a tiny camera, not a large heavy one either takes pretty good pics! Can be used on either Auto OR manual.. Fuji Finepix S8000fd here are some of mine, taken with one of these cameras... photos
