  1. good news:) he is maybe the 'sook' of the family ;)
  2. In this scenario, does your OH say or do anything? The puppy will see him as the pack leader, and a movement or word may be enough to trigger the submission/excitement. What exactly is the puppy doing when he pees? Is he standing, does he look up or down, is he squatting, wagging his tail?
  3. Hi...if minx has a distinctive smell..it MAY be a yeast or bacterial thing on her skin.Have you asked the vet? I had a dog with this, and apart from washing him in one of the medicated washes..I was told to wash and dry between his toes and under his tail at least once a day. Apparently these areas are where the nasties like to breed up, being moist and a bit dirty... the dog licks/chews, and thus spreads it. Best to get a proper diagnosis first..
  4. Scratching can be caused by so many things:( Wandering jew(dew) is only one. There are other pollens, food colourings& additives, soaps and household chemicals....... a very frustrating thing to get on top of
  5. Hope Lou slept well, and is feeling more comfortable this morning...
  6. Don't panic just yet... he is at least licking a bit
  7. here's hoping a good sleep will help..and give the antibiotics a chance to start working  Don't worry too much... he will probably get thirsty in the morning. Being tired is ok..he will recover better with lots of sleep. Check him at bedtime..if he is responsive, try him on a little ice cream... If he looks worse, is crying, or won't wake up..find a 24 hr vet number and check with them to ease your mind Having a temperature and being sore will just make him want to sleep... guess you have had this feeling too at some stage.... I am a bit suprised tho that the vet didn't have him on antibiotics as a matter of course.... ours does..sends home antibiotics, and extra painkillers if needed. The vet has no mobile number listed in the phone book, or on their card? That makes it hard.
  8. I would be phoning the vet again, and saying that the dog is not drinking... altho maybe he has had a drink ..before you got home today? Ours sometimes only drink a couple of times a day... does he like ice-cream? That is a sort of liquid Hope he settles soon...
  9. You only need about a half teaspoonful... soak it preferably and mix with food..or just sprinkle, and make sure she has plenty to drink.
  10. A long shot.... but maybe something was said on the TV which triggered him doing this? May he have 'heard' a long forgotten phrase or command? sorry I can't be more help...without knowing/seeing everyones' body language it is tricky :D Harry sounds a great little dog tho!
  11. Was looking for more info on this because of Smithy's post. I have never heard of it until now :D weird.... have been around working labs etc on a fairly regular basis for many years, and have not seen it... life is for learning
  12. hi ..I found this discussion from a couple of months back...KHL..have a read thru, you're not alone http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...105773&st=0
  13. IMO it is not really "a boy thing" we have males and females, and mounting/excessive sniffing etc behaviour between them rarely occurs at any stage. in over 40 yrs, our dogs have NEVER attempted to mount any part of a human, either. kittyhawklee..it is becoming common, but is not the 'expected', accepted behaviour.
  14. hi... I would be giving him HEAPS more to do..lots of big bones, interactive toys..like noisy rattly balls, things to wreck.... and maybe keeping Minx away from him for the times in the day when you feel he is more 'hyped" ? 10 weeks old pups do do a little mounting 'play' with littermates... but your boy sounds a bit excessive.
  15. I am SLOWLY finding my way around... tonight, I found how to do stuff with layers
  16. Hi...guess you need to know WHY it is happening first? Then find something to help whatever is the cause?
  17. Yep...advantage is terrific for the stickfast fleas!! With bayer vets advice I have used it on tiny puppies too... brilliant!! Will also try the A on the chooks now Am looking forward to buying some next week again:) Thanks kymbo
  18. Not dogs... and very simple...but I today I managed a frame of sorts....
  19. It could be a reaction to a noise or something as well...hard to tell without seeing it..good luck with her.
  20. Don't laugh...I still use sump oil occasionally! We used to use it all the time...mixed with a little sulphur for mange ( after the dogs ahd been after mangy foxes)..or painted on ears etc for the stickfast fleas. It works so well on the stickfast...they can't breathe, and die. The chooks always used to get their combs and feet painted with it..killed fleas, and scaly -leg mites. It was also sprayed on their perches to kill ticks & nasties. Pigs can use it as well to kill lice. very good stuff...for OUTDOOR critters!!!!
  21. Thanks... express post? Not out here..we only get two mails a week ( except when there is a public hol, then only one!) I did try the capstar.... poor little thing..the fleas went, but witchetty was not at all well...threw up a couple of times... and was very dull. She's bright as a button today tho..stealing bones and annoying everyone. No more capstar for her. I shall investigate the lemon idea:)
  22. Ahhh...that makes sense, I remember an old vet advising people with gulping dogs to put a few large stones in the bowl..the dog then had to pick the food from around the stones... I wonder how many also chipped their teeth? !!
  23. *nods in agreement* the "gimme", "spit" , "Ta" instructions are a very useful lesson indeed... but I agree with leaving them eating meals in peace
  24. I have only seen a couple of his shows, and unfortunately didn't enjoy watching him 'perform'.
