I have an near eight year old mini schnauzer that has progressively become difficult to walk. He starts crying when harness goes on and by the time we are at the front gate he is squealing and carrying on. For a good ten mins on our walk he screams and the starts to calm down but when he sees another dog it’s off again. Nothing I do can get his focus off the other dog. Some days are worse than others . I’ve tried walking our 6 month pup with him , on a connected lead , a separate lead and then walking totally seperate walks. Seperate walks a slightly better . Anyone have some ideas ? He is gorgeous at home. Very well behaved when home, in the car , vets and family and friends homes. Walks are woeful.

Hi all , I've mentioned this before but now I'm going to add a third little angel to my clan. What I'm stuck on is male or female . I have two desexed females and they are great. My vet said male or females doesn't matter ,just make sure on personality . Ok peeps any insight . All opinions will be considered. I preferr another little girl but I've never had three dogs before . All will be mini schnauzers. Love them to the moon and back :)

Hi does any one have any exp with a slight heart murmur. Just found out today. My girl was seen last sept and there was nothing and today she went in to get teeth cleaned and we found out she has a murmur and some fungal thingy on her tonsils !! antibiotics for a month and just to keep a watch for the murmur . I was so upset , the vet said not to worry that it may never change and if it does there is great meds to control it. My poor girl. Any thoughts?????
Sorry for asking - but what are the antibiotics for?
Dagmar
She has a low grade infection on her tonsils

My girl is from a reg breeder and I have her sister who is fine, but this one who is wonderful has this condition. Im on top of it , just wanted to see if anyone else has had same issue. We have a great diet and lifestyle , she lucky she has me to handle it.

Anyone had any exp with schn bumps??? Have a girl that may have the genetic syndrome that schnauzers have. Have it under control but just wondered if anyone else has issues. Yes its in the bloodline but I love my girl and just want to do the right thing by her.

There has been no trauma or hair pulled out. From the last time I clipped her I noticed the fluffy fur had gone and black wire growing. Weird though. Could she now be getting her wire coat as the patch seems to be getting bigger????????? She is a very soft coated girl and I thought maybe now her wire is going to come through ???? My other mini is just fine. Thanks for giving me ideas though. xx

Hi everyone, just a question to put out there, I have a 5 yr old black and silver mini schnauzer that has a patch of her silver fur on her back changing to black wire fur. I know they are double coated and she never really grew alot of wire fur as she grew so she is lovley and fluffy. I clip her not strip. Vets are unsure whats going on as well. Skin is a ok and she is as healthy as ever. Anyone one with any ideas??????

Well she is not fat, she doesn't scratch her ears and she only drools alot when walked. She has always made grunting noises when walked and asked vet, well she has what the vets feels is an oval wind pipe that while breathing when walked squashes abit more than normal which creates noises and her drooling. I dont really know but she is healthy and happy and all I wanted to know was is there any help on getting rid of red staining. I know she is not perfect but she is our little girl.!! Even when she barks it ends up a squeal rather than a bark. I give them chicken necks or wings, little rissoles I make up with vege , bran, meat and egg and a very small amount of hills science diet. Also I add a small amount of omega 3 drops for dogs, vet approved. I also make them doggy biscuits from parsley, wholemeal flour, mozzerella, carrot, olive oil and water which are then doubled baked, they love them, pretty much they are fed well. They also have fresh fruit once a day.

'It will be saliva. She most likely is licking her feet which means she either has tinea or a fungi issue.
Some minis can be wet mouths & diet can play a big part .
Is it just her front feet/both feet ??
& does she have bad ears/yeasty/infections??
well its all four feet and when we walk she always has a wet beard because she dribbles like crazy. She is hypoactive unlike her sister who is calm and doesn't have an issue. I have clipped the fur around the feet so it doesn't look as bad but her beard is terrible, I cant cut that off and washing it seems to do nothing.

Hi all, How do you get rid of pinky stain on mini sch feet and beard ??????? Have clipped fur on feet but seems to be still stained????????? Have two girls one is fine the other has satins, both feed the same.Im baffled!!

Hi all, haven't been on for a while, I had a issue with little blisters on mini schnauzers back that crusted over when dryed. Been to vet, no mites maybe fungal thingy . treated for fungal got better but as soon as I stop using anti fungal stuff they come back!!!!! Had internal fungal treatment as well, antibiotics and a fungal wash.Vet wants to do more scrapings but Ive suggested skin specialist instead, so off we go on the 14th dec.  Ruby is not troubled by this issue at all. No fur has been lost just these little blisters that bursts and scab over, more annoying to me then Ruby. Am I over reacting???????

Hi I had anal gland issues for two years and now due to omega 3 drops in food and expressing every 2 weeks were all happy. I think the older they get the better they are. Anal glands that is. Good luck

Hi, had a great Doberman who was the love of our lives and was desexed at the age of 6yr due to breeders agreement and found the the same thing happened to her. Tablets helped a bit but I did alot of bedding washing. Found feeding on dry dog food helped abit. Its because of late desexing that this sometimes happens. Confine her in a small area to sleep with waterproof sheets to help. Its not their fault, just have to rethink sleeping arrangements and alot of washing.cheers

Sounds like you have added a schnauzer to the family!!!!!!!! I have two and they are the best and yes they both lick all shampoos.Just do beard very quick and rinse. Bath mat very good so as wont feel scared of slipping in bath and then bath time will be fun not a chore. Congrats you be best friends for years.

I'm one of the owners turned amateur groomers
It ain't easy that's for sure! I only had one MS this time last year and took him to pet care day run by the schnauzer club NSW. I watched him being clipped by an expert who gave me a quick run down as he went, I took a few photos and made some mental notees and I've been clipping ever since.
I was sick of paying for bad clips, so that was my motivation. I now have 3 MS under my roof (2 under 2 yo and a new foster) and there are significant financial benefits if you clip yourself. BUT as others have said
-It takes a few hours each time
-It takes practice
-You need quality tools or you've got no chance
-You need some friendly folk to give you honest feedback
-You need to be firm and train your dog to be good on the table or it's a disaster waiting to happen
It's definitely possible, and you get out what you put in.
I bought Andis clippers and they are great, I bought a qualtiy slicker brush and I cheaped out on a comb and scissors. I can't stand the scissors or the comb and have a few more blades on my wish list...but it was a reasonable start. Be prepared to fork out atleast $600 to get reasonable versions of everything. It seems like alot, but when you consider 3 dogs at $60ish per clip, 6 times a year, they pay for themselves in no time!
Thanks for sharing that.
Have you ever accidently knicked your dog while clipping? And how do you get them to stand still for an hour?
Hey all,
Watch the ear's, they are tricky but with a little pressure they stop bleeding. Just go for it , its fun learning. You can also you tube schnauzer grooming. Very interesting

I have two mini's and am not a groomer but I am a hairdresser. I bought all the equipment and take pride in grooming my girls. It does take me 3 hrs to do both so be prepared and make sure you have the time.I enjoy it and the girls know they get a treat afterwards so they are well behaved. My breeder clipped them first to give me a guide and then I just followed.Gets easier each time you do it.
