  1. Shar pei should not be jumping when young just like any breed but they sure can jump! Asia jumps from a stand, up into my 4wd & often jumps up on top of her crate so she look out the windows, she does get called a little mountain goat as she will jump up on anything ;) Also when at agility she jumps a lot higher than the jumps clearing them easily. Alot of pei dont do well on beef but mine have always eaten it with no problems. Shar pei are very intelligent & are easy to train but can be extremely stubborn. So frustrating at times
  2. Try the butcher at Stirling,in the mall, my brother works there & they can get offal.
  3. Im in the southern surburbs of Adelaide. I met an older couple recently that have just joined my obedience club with their new amstaff pup. They were telling me that the rangers here have really been harrassing them for proof of their dogs breed & they were really upset as they thought they may have their pup taken off them Their pup is a registered pedigree amstaff & they do have the papers This is the first time Ive heard of rangers here demanding proof of breed
  4. Dion at Marion small animal hospital breeds & shows amstaffs. Hes a great vet
  5. Here it is Amika http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...=161139&hl= There are also updates on 2 of the other pups in the Pei thread.

  7. Marnie is beautiful LT You are so lucky to have Marnie & I knew you deserved one of these specials pups as soon as I saw them.Youve done a great job coming out to training with me & helping train the foster dogs. Im so happy shes in the family so I get to see her grow up Marnie learning to sit & shake hands
  8. Hi Weimlover! Yep the show handling class starts at 7pm! I will be there for trialling classes & sometimes join in the show handling! Hope to see you there Youd better be there this week Leema
  9. Hi Ravyk The closest club to you with both agility & flyball I think would be Dover gardens. Your dogs can start at any age but may have to have a certain level of obedience training first. At my club you have to have at least grade 4 to start agility. All dogs mutts/ pure breed can do dog sports :D I think to start off your dog just needs a flat collar, no check chains etc Not sure about fees for Dover gardens club you may have to ring them to find out all the info you need. Im as Southern districts at Morphett vale, we have agility but not flyball. Agility is great fun & Im sure your dogs would love it! Hope that helps!
  10. Hey Can someone please make me a new signature & can I please have Rugers pic between the Pei. Ruger Asia more pics coming ....
  11. For us it was a small goal but we got there All I wanted was a title after all the hard work & my girl Asia did me proud with a 3rd CCD pass in 2008 on New Years Eve! Title after 4 trials is not what I ever expected & Im sure there will be more to come with a breed uncommon to Obedience! Her first trial & pass was at the Adelaide Royal in Sept which was huge for us! Congrats to all on the dedication & hard work it takes to trial a dog of any breed, good luck for 2009! ;)
  12. Good to hear the Vet found the problem & the grass seed will be removed today! Poor little Ringo ;) Hope he feels much better now!
  13. Hope you got my PM Cassie I have a few to deliver so can drop some in for you! My freezer is only the size of a bar fridge so my 4 will all get one each xmas morning
  14. Just letting everyone know that I can get 20-30 turkey frames for free, if anyone wants some :D I have to pick them up from Stirling xmas eve but only have room in my freezer for a couple for my dogs ! So PM me if you are interested! They will be thrown in the bin if not taken!
  15. Hey Melbomb! I know its a bit of a drive but my brother is a butcher in Stirling & I know his shop is very dog friendly They make their own liver treats etc Hey I can probably deliver it too Melbomb & anyone else in Adelaide interested please Pm me & I will arrange a Dol discount :p My bro is a big dog lover as he has owned a Saluki & Bernese mountain dog ;) Cassie you will have to visit with Zephr :D I totally agree with Leema, Rural pet meats are great too
  16. A Komondor or Bearded collie! ;) Something a bit different and both breeds apparently do very well in dog sports! and gotta be easier than my Shar pei :D
  17. Hi Megan I know exactly what you mean about the stalking & charging at other dogs as my Shar pei Asia does it sometimes too. She will drop & wait for the dog to get closer & then pounce. She doesnt do it enough to be a problem & very rarely when on lead but she does do it more often when off lead at the dog park for the SA DOL meets! Maybe try asking in the training threads, Im sure someone will give you some advice there
  18. Ness I definately think a lot of the dogs were fired up last night due to the weather being cooler,it was very hot & windy at the Dover trial Im sure it didnt help Asia much! Do you know of any good private trainers in Adelaide I could contact? I have received a PM from someone about training in drive & will definately be looking into it! We did start agility this year to bring the fun back into going to training & she does love it! It has made a difference but we have new problems to deal with there She gets so hyped up after a few jumps or after coming off the equipment she takes off doing zoomies, so the opposite of her lagging being bored with obedience! I have tried all sorts of food such as cheese, sausage etc and just about anything that most dogs go for .She will take it but then spit it out, not all the time but a lot of the time! She does seem to like the sweet treats more often like dog chocs! Very strange dog when it comes to food! ETA- I do have a couple of clickers? Never really been keen before but will read up & try anything new if it helps!
  19. Thanks for the replys Well Asia totally surprised me last night with working so well in her 3rd ccd trial, she passed with a score of 90/100 A while before we went in the ring we had a bit of a play wrestle & when she started going silly(she jumps up & mouths my arms) I got her new rope toy out & she played tug for the first time ever & it seemed to work for her. Im sure she was picking up on me being frustrated with her & not having fun ,as the instructors just seem to say they dont know what to do with her. She does have her days where she doesnt want to work so I will be looking at working with a private trainer in the new year as well as at the club, as she will need a lot of work especially working offlead. Our next trial is on New years eve so I will be doing short training sessions with her & trying to make it all fun. I have to learn to not let the negative training get to me as we have something to prove by getting her title! 1 more pass to go
  20. Huge help needed! What to do?? My girl has become bored with training! She is 3 in Feb.She is not food or toy driven so training has been hard work so far! I dragged her around the ring at the last trial! She has 1 ccd pass at the Royal in Adelaide! After asking the head trainer on Wed night (at the club Ive been a member of for 15+ years for extra help with her) I was told "well you should have picked another breed then" So disheartning as my breed of choice is my companion first obedience dog second! Do I persist with the club or find a 1 on 1 trainer who understands different breed traits? As most dont get Shar pei? She is so capable but we have no support at all from our club
  21. No way will I feed my dogs chicken necks again! A few months ago I had given all 3 dogs a chicken neck , turned my back for a minute to wash my hands, when I turned back to the dogs Phooey was staggering toward me. His eyes rolled back & he fell to the floor. I was lucky enough to be able to grab the end of the bone from his throat & pull it out. He was fine straight away but it scared the crap out of me as it happened so fast. He doesnt normally swallow things whole. Scary to think what would have happened if I couldnt get it out or wasnt there with him. I dont think he would have made it to a vet.
  22. Thanks for the replies As im from Adelaide it wont be until next year that I will come over, but ive looked at the links & will check in early next year for trials to enter Ive sent you a PM Renee for some more info!
