  1. When these sorts of issues come up, may I suggest a frank discussion with the pup's breeder. You've got yourself a giant breed, they take a lot of care to raise well and the best source of advice for that will be the breeder. A good relationship between breeder and owner can be of such benefit to you as a new owner and most breeders are keen to assist. :)

My first response was to ask my breeder. I did so by email and she was able to respond soon after. When I first asked the breeder for clarification of this issue before I bought a puppy, it was over the phone, and between us I obviously didn't get the right idea. In the email, I said I was confused and then stated four facts. I don't consider this to be confrontational or accusatory, however one commenter here suggests this warrants the breeder cutting me off from further assistance. Yes, the relationship between a breeder and owner can be very valuable. Rather than respond back to the breeder and potentially create an uncomfortable situation, I chose to consult the Worldly Wise Web. I didn't call up a competitor breeder for a whinge session, and I wasn't making a demand on anyone's time. I used the word "mislead" because I was left with the impression that the puppy would be registered in my name. I accept that the breeder would not have intentionally done this, to trick me out of less than $40 when I was going to be paying thousands.

Prior to purchasing a puppy, it's recommended to speak to as many breeders as possible and ask lots of questions. Why should that stop after purchasing a puppy? Many of the responses I've received online today are more informative than the breeder's response and I've also been able to learn some additional things. Giant breeds do take a lot of care to raise properly. Before committing to getting a puppy I did a lot of research from many different resources in addition to speaking to the breeders and visiting. I found differing opinions on two of the questions that I asked breeders, and the opinion I developed on those aspects is differing to my breeder's idea on the subject. That doesn't mean I discount her opinion or wouldn't seek her advice where necessary. But for me, it does show the value in speaking with people from different backgrounds, whether they be Saint breeders or owners, or giant dog breeders or owners.

I understood that the breeder was having the puppy microchipped, but not registered on the NSW companion animal register, and I understand what is involved with that registration. I wasn't able to take microchip paperwork home when I picked up my puppy because the breeder didn't know which microchip number was his and her scanner wasn't working. I signed the form with it blank and took my puppy to my vet the next day to get scanned and emailed the chip number to the breeder. His microchip and paperwork is all in order and I will be registering him on the companion animal register following further consultation with my vet and the council.

It's not just the term "registration" that is causing me confusion, but at the time he was registered, I was the puppy's owner. If the form had arrived showing this other person as "Breeder" or "person initially registering the dog", I would have less issue with the situation. For her to be recorded as the owner was simply incorrect. Yes, she was to begin with, but not at the time of registration. But I guess that's just how Dogs NSW operates the register. The breeder had determined that my puppy was going to be sold and on limited register weeks before I picked him up. So I didn't understand the six week period between when I picked him up and the "date registered".

I sought feedback on this issue on two forums. One of them was more helpful and less judgemental than the other.

Bigsley if you ever plan on traveling with your dog I suggest that you register it on one of the National Registers ie CAR or AAR. The NSW companion register does not "talk" to the 6 other registries. Recently a NSW dog ended up in a pound in Melbourne and was lucky to be returned to its NSW owner.

  2. Poomother how the devil are you. laugh.gif

I bought a new Oztrail Standard compact last week. Has to be that to fit across the back of the car. I feel its better constructed that the previous model.

    The roof is also thicker.

The altegra is to heavy for me.

  3. CHANGE OF SHOW VENUE

Unfortunately there is a change of venue for the Swan Hill/Lake Boga Shows on the 14th & 15th June this year. The shows will now be held on the Lake Boga Yacht Club grounds on the main Highway. A map will be put into the return envelopes for exhibitors. Camping is still available.

    Cheers

  4. Wassat when Finn died we collected his testes.

Stuart Mason looked at semen. Good count and moving but lots of abnormalities. Stuart siad that he had probably only been sexually mature for about 2 months, this fitted in with his behaviour.

He had had 2 matings 1 phantom and 1 with 4 pups.

Stuart suggested not to freeze as a lot would die and more die when thawing.

He suggested not to collect till 2 for a toy and 2-3 for a large breed.

However your lad is older so as you suggest it could be acquired infertility.

CLASSIC DOG SHOW – SATURDAY FEBRUARY 1ST – CHANGE OF TIME

After due consideration, due to forecast weather conditions, it has been decided to move the 60th Anniversary Classic Dog Show to a Twilight Show. There has been considered discussion with the Committee, the VCA and our Judges before a final decision was made.

The following amendments have been made with consideration to the Shows running the day before and after the Classic, and in consideration of the health and well-being of all judges, officials, exhibitors and dogs.

    New arrangements:

    • The Show will start at 5pm sharp with the Classic Guineas Class (25 entries)

    • Breed classes (920 entries) will commence at the conclusion of the Guineas

    • There will be NO Junior Handlers classes conducted

    • There will be no breaks in judging, apart from refreshments for judges and officials in their rings

    • General Specials will be conducted directly after the conclusion of breed judging (and exhibitors are invited to join us for a drink to celebrate the Classic's 60th Milestone)

We hope that exhibitors embrace this change of starting time, and we understand that no set of arrangements will suit all, but we believe this change will provide the best outcome for most.

On behalf of the Classic Committee, we wish all exhibitors the very best for our Show, and we hope to see you join our 60th Anniversary celebrations, marking 60 years of work to improve facilities and conditions for Victorian Dog Exhibitors.

PLEASE CROSS POST this message, and share with anyone you think might not access social media and other related internet sites. Our aim was an early decision so that everyone will know of the changes, and we can reorganise officials where necessary.

Bob Robert Bell (Classic Chairman) and Andrew Burt (Show Manager)

  8. My Ruby Cavalier went missing New Years Eve some years ago. It was a Friday or Saturday. My friend and I looked for about 4 hours to no avail.

Contacted the pounds first thing Tuesday morning. No ruby cavs.

Went to LDH anyway. Walked around but did not see her.

4 hours later they rang me to say she was there had been all the time.!!!!!!!

God knows why they had not contacted me earlier. Never asked what she was in as.

She must have been asleep when I walked past her pen, because when I went with the staff she was leaping up at the gate.

  9. Well I do not know how accurate the news article is but I have dealt with DAS since last Thursday over the White Shepherd (spelt as shepard biggrin.gif)that is in there.

I have never dealt with such a rude bunch of people.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also they do not desex dogs before rehoming. icon_smile_mad.gificon_smile_mad.gificon_smile_mad.gificon_smile_mad.gif

  10. Hi all Neuter Showies please support this Club with entering your neuter.

This is the first Show with Neuter Class being offered in Metropolitan Melbourne for 2013. We need to Show Dogs Vic that neuter classes are utilized.

    Geelong Show Sunday

    Group 1

    7

    Group 2

4 all staffies. Which ever 1 won also went on to win open neuter in show

    Group 3

    4

    Group 4

2 One of which was from SA who came over because of neuter. This group has up until now only had 1 entrant Rebel Quests Fern.

    Group 5

    4

    Group 6

    1

    Group 7

    4

    A total of 26

The Secretary is going to get me the numbers from last year.

One of the arguments against Neuter is that often there is only 1 in the group. I have been at 5 shows lately where there has only been 1 minor puppy in the working group. So that one does not cutit.

I have not added up the other entries that came with the neuter.

There were more than 1 Neuter in Group 6 - we had competition for the group run off - couldn't tell you what though :p

Plus they got 2 of my other entries that I would not have entered otherwise :).

Bisart you are right there was a Bernese. Missed it. So 2 Group 6 Total 27
