  1. Honestly not much Helen, for the most part most states will say privacy laws prevent them assisting you in anyway, end of conversation. Give Dog NSW a go though they are very helpful to the point that you may not need help from the other states. :)

I have the Vic Gazettes here still from doing the Collies so if you can give me a start year I can flick through them for you up until the mid 2000s. If you want me to, it would probably take me all weekend but I don't mind. All in a goood cause after all. :)

  2. LOL! The folders took two months the actual research....you don't want to know. I spent countless hours in the KCC library going through gazettes back to the 50's to obtain the records. My partner in crime did a fabulous job on the folders, and the display which she did herself as she couldn't get around for quite awhile. Muggins here is just the researcher! Of course we have a secret weapon, and that is that a lot of the obedience judges were collie people to start with which does rather help. The display at the National really helped to get more information coming our way as has the FB page. If you want the link for that let me know. :)

I'm totally chuffed that someone else has been inspired to have a go with their own breed. That's just wonderful.

If you want to cut down some of your work try emailing Dogs NSW and asking about a data extract....I wish we'd found out about that sooner!

  3. Helen good luck with it! It's fascinating but so much work!

My friend and I have been doing the same for our breed and we have almost reached the stage where we can just keep an eye out for the new ones now. You don't want to know how long it has taken to get to that stage! Honestly the best way of gaining information was going back through the various state gazettes and manually putting that information into a database while we were also slowly seeking people out. Brittanys aren't as common as Collies so you should have an easier task numbers wise but it will still be a lot of digging. We found people would remember that there was one and sometimes they might half remember a name but that was as far as we got. Once we had actual names for the dogs and the owners and of course then we had the breeders too suddenly we had information pouring in! Unfortunantly a lot of people will title to CD and then not go on, and often people will drop out of dogs altogether and these people are increadably difficult to track down.

  4. Show judges in Vic have been helping people who have had their dogs seized to get them out by being "experienced assessors" and they aren't charging for this. I would imagine the government is none too happy about that given how many cases have been lost based on those assesments, and that pressure has been applied. It is very hard for Dogs Vic to fight the government in Vic because they don't have the numbers to begin with and because there are certainly strong arm tactics being used...there would have to be as most people I speak to aren't at all happy with what's going on. Remember too that Vic dogs and Victorian breeders have a new legislation dangling over their heads like the sword of Damocles. Sadly sometimes you have to put your own first even when that goes against what you would like to do.

Just for the record I hate these laws too and fought to stop them going through but of course they just got steam rolled through regardless. :mad

  5. RS have a look at some of the Volvos you might get away with it in one of those. Low false floor, and puppy bars instead of crates could work I have seen set ups like these for medium size dogs. And yes it's a squeese but they fit and the soft crates do have to go under the false floor as they're too high to set up inside. You can buy Volvo's with leather seats so that's the other thing. Not sure what model they are off hand but they have a more square back end than standard station wagons.

  6. Take your papers into the council, not sure which council you are with but most with this rule have an exemption for ANKC registered dogs, some also give a discount for rego for papered dogs too. Some councils ask for proof of membership but alot just glance at the papers.

  7. Booge, I believe they're inside tomorrow. If you go to the far end near where all the German Shepards will be training, just inside the doors there is a room with windows, if you're lost ask there for some help as the show sec will probably be there along with a few other people helping out. Some of those dogs will be in different rings as they aren't all the same group but the people in the little office will point you in the right place. Have fun!

  8. It's not long until the Royal popsicle, you could both go and have a day out with the kids. You'd have to look and see what days what breeds are on (as they're spread out of the whole show) but she wouldn't feel "managed" then. Other wise there are show's at KCC park in Skye or at Bulla most weekends.

  9. KCC is closed and any events on this weekend have been cancelled. From what I understand Western-port hwy is flooded as is KCC. The office is closed today too.

This is what's up on Facebook so please pass it around:

Due to extreme weather, KCC Park is closed until further notice. All events scheduled for the weekend of 23 - 24 June 2012 are cancelled.

The office is closed today - Friday 22 June 2012.

  10. If you go to Jaycar you can buy a light very like the guardian ones Secretkei put up except that they have a soft silicon mounting. I put fit them on to the collars the same why the guardians are and they are very bright and show up well even with the big ruff my collies have. As they are soft and pliable they they don't damage their coats either. They sell a two pack for about $12.

  11. TSD whatever the catalogue has would be a help, it's for a data base of sporting titled Collies and I know nothing about this dog. If I could even find what state it's from I could at least go looking lol! The idea is to have a 5 gen pedigree for each dog plus owner's name, rego number, DOB, colour, sex etc and oh if we're really lucky a photo. It's an on going project (or should that be nightmare lmao!).

  12. G.A does she have papers? Papers are like a birth certificate and will have her family tree on them and will have the ANKC endorsement on them. Assuming she has these then you need to look at them and see what register she is on. To breed a litter she needs main register papers. Then she would need to be DNA tested for three diseases, not sure what this would cost but CEA is not cheap around $200 to $300, then hip and elbow scoring. Not a cheap exercise but very very important.

  13. I have collies (yes rough ones !) too and use the Plush puppy ones Belinda has, mine is quite a few years old and is still going strong. The cheap ones are just useless, I also find the PP ones much more comfortable in the hand too.

  14. Alpha Bet I really truely hope you are right but if you read the RSPCA site then go through the actual survey questions on the DPI there is a decided sinking feeling. One of the questions says that breeding animals are any entire animal 4 months or over. Another asks if small breeders (and that would be most ANKC breeders) who currently keep their small numbers as pets and whelp the bitches in the home should be allowed to continue to do so as under the new laws it would be illegal.

So the question is what's going on exactly.

I'm not questioning you just that it seems odd that you were all told one thing and yet the documents available to us now seem to say something different.
