  1. Dont give up...

Before i had DOL i never crate trained.. Now i would never do anything BUT.

This is how i did it.

i had lots of pigs ears etc, and each time they went to the crate, i put the ear in. Gave a few mins of chew time. Before the pup asks to come out

i take her out and remove the ear or treat. the ONLY time a treat is given is inside the crate with closed door.

My dogs now go to bed in the crate on thier own. Some dogs are easier than others and be prepared to have some sleepless nights just as you would with a baby.

    Good luck

  2. He is already trained with SOME hand signals.

When meeting him,you would not know it. Apart from when recalling. Although ,once you do get his attention with waving arms,he does come.

My main concerns were diversions. For instance in the early days of him being here,If he and my dogs rough play etc,I want to be able to get his attention from a distance, which is why I was considering vibrating collars.

Eta thankyou to everyone for your advice

  3. Its possible that I will be taking in a deaf dog. I was wondering what experience others have had with deafness.

I am more concerned with diversions etc. I have always been a verbal leader with my dogs, but wonder, for example,if there was a scuffle, what you would do to distract the dog?

I have been given some good advice, but would love to hear from families of deaf dogs who deal with it regularly

  4. Thanks Kate, and im sorry to hear of your loss also.

I have an album of Sage from 6 weeks old until her final day. My daughter works in a photo lab so we are going to put them all onto disc to background music etc.

Its still so hard..I had a good cry again yesterday when i discovered Sages brother who had had a stroke earlier in the week, drowned in his families swimming pool.

RIP Bazza, :) you can now play with Sage under the trees and scuffle like the old days.. Careful Baz,Sage always outdid you!

  5. I think im bein gparanoid...

I just lost my dog to kidney disease so im a bit on edge.

She seems ok in every way,yes very active... poop all good etc.. So i shouldnt panic PP?.. Ok.. NO TESTS!

Maybe i need to join the pug thread, even though she is a mutt as such.. You can all give me Pug advice..

    Thanks for all the replies

  6. How can anyone know if BSL works or not if not everyone follows the law? I don't presume to know everything about it and I don't really support it..

But nothing will ever work if everyone just 'does their own thing' and doesn't try...

I don't believe any law should be specific to breeds I think it's either an aggressive/dangerous dog, or it's not, regardless of breed.. but that's not the issue here..

I assumed the issue was that the people owned a supposed APBT,and it wasnt reported by the neighbours PRIOR to any incident.

Again, soo many people change thier breed to suit themselves.. For instance,a friend of mine bought a pup, lab x maltese. This dog was picked up by council after getting out while she had tradesmen on the property. The council holding facility labelled the dog a Lab x Kelpie while in his pen.. my friend decided that kelpie is a far better cross to be in there than a maltese,so she now tells everyone this is what her dog was crossed with.. she stated to me that the council would know better and he must be crossed with that.. Pays no mind to the fact he was sold to her has Lab x Maltese purley cause maltese isnt as "cool". (no offence malt owners lol)

ETA: he is a really cute dog..looks like a mini lab
