  1. most vets dont even hand anything out anymore as people dont want them (yes a nightmare for us boarding kennel owners . I actually as a kennel owner hate those books finding all the stuff required . Most do print outs with stickers attached & its easy to just pop into the dog folder especially when many are using the 3 yearly or titer route
  2. multi dog household & its very simple whomever goes out the others just learn & know there to stay home no drama or overthinking otherwise being a multi dog household would be a nightmare . Only dogs that get managed here are puppies or the elderly seniors everyone else is brought up with life skills & thats just how life is
  3. I clip one of as a client regularly, but he has chronic health issues . A light shape trim of tips wont end the world & clip off doesnt mean disaster BUT if the owner is not brushing weekly to the skin then problems can be created with horrid skin under matter coats, felted so bad the skin will take a beating being brushed out BUT even a matted coat once the layers taken off will still need to be brushed to get the last bit unfelted . Often using a dryer to dry blow is great at helping move dead coat even some matting whilst being brushed
  4. The problem is owners dont want to shop around or drive further than 10 mins. As a Boarding kennel owner i see bill of $200 plus for a vaccination & i just think OMFG why would you pay that crazy price . We have some with vacc, yearly heartworn injection nearly $500 . People can make smart choices or pay what they want
  5. Terriers are no more high drive than a sighthound with the same drive . Having owned Bedlingtons & Sighthounds i can safely tell you there isnt any difference Infact not all terriers are created to act like what people perceive as a terrier & tell people which is ashame as breeds get given a bad rep by poor info . Many whippet fanciers also own Bedlingtons due to the similarities
  6. Given the oodles need brushing & clipping then that will not tick the first box . The other factor as a groomer who refuses to groom oodles due to nutty owners & there "i dont want my dog to look like a Poodle "even though it looks like a Poodle is something he seriously needs to consider . If you dont brush it & its knotty well it will look like a Poodle . If hes happy to go with some hair then consider bedlington terrier.Awesome dogs a whippet in many ways but the Beddie quirks .
  7. That's how many operate nothing out of the ordinary there. To still think they could have just popped in is still weird. You know how she operates & that her day is based on a schedule popping in when your day is time planned is very important . It sounds like the vet may feel the same and has given you the opportunity to opt out . There is a very small number of VET animal behaviourists in Australia .They are often run off their feet & time is well & truly managed ,the deal with dogs with massive issues & owners who have their own baggage & struggles often meeting their homework requirement . My friend was one but retired due to the demands of this small workforce area & the insane demands & trauma that came with it . If this person set up isnt for you then pick one that ticks your box
  8. To be honest you both have your flaws .Your email was rather "i have no idea of the point really except " They replied to exactly that they made a mistake & if you have an issue happy to hand over . It reads like you expect alot from over the phone calls that i gather are free . At one stage, I said to the assistant that I thought the vet could have popped in for a few minutes when she left the script in my letterbox. I was told, no, she is too busy. I actually find this comment mind blowing If you dont like the service you got find another vet behaviorist its a pretty simple solution.
  9. No guarantee at all the urine smell will change . Some dogs have strong urine nothing to do with hormones . As a boarding kennel owner we board plenty of spayed dogs whose urine is strong & stinky . My entire dogs & even stud dogs come no where near the smell . Diet can make wee smell strong
  10. 2 boys having a fight she tried to separate . The dog shot there wasn't a choice . You read on DOL all the time people asking about a second dog want same sex ,people on here fully support ,the people with knowledge point out management issues and being smart the do gooders come back with you won't have problems, ours got on great yadda yadda without understanding the breeds ,scenarios & lifestyles people wnat to bring them too. Small suburban yards ,rarely walked and management can be hard and some people won't accept it . Sad part is the breed will get blamed & all the do gooders will come out of the wood work often the same ones that also suggest getting 2 same sex.
  11. Puppies need to be set up for there new life & what that means BUT people need to als factor if using a pen then your also teaching them to be reliant on humans to let them out etc etc . Sitting in a pen for hrs is boring . I work from home & the dogs cope easily as they have the backyard to enjoy & then all the other things schedules just like a non working from home life
  12. Yep just like the same vets that say HD because they poked & pulled puppies . Its worrying that some vets make such bold diagnosis at such an age .
  13. My first question would be is this vet knowledgable enough to diagnose it ?? Why did the vet come to this diagnosis?? As to choices thats only something you can decide
  14. Sad situation for both & sounds like she needs help . Hard when your not close by & trying to be respectful of the language used but it may be time to slightly up the "importance" aspect . Maybe if she is going to the vet again you may be able to do a phone chat whilst she is there to be the ears ,its atricky one one of not wanting the vet to think she is incompetent to look after but more stressing that she needs a level head to hear what is being said at the moment as it was such a stressful moment . This dog will be sore even from bruising so even every day patting, touching ,picking up will impact all things
  15. AS this dog is a support dog then there needs to be a very grown up approach to the trauma this dog has gone through & the expectations on the dog at present being unable to do its job & that rushing to get a quick fix wont happen & may never happen . Its trauma is more than just giving it medication especially if the dog is expected to continue its previous life . Most vets are not qualified to give the moving forward advice that meds & a rehab plan needs . The owner & those supporting als need to be on the same page of reality & not fantasy The antibiotic path is not as cut n dry & vets have so many different legal rules these days . They may also have opted not to dispense behaviour meds at that moment due to the side effects it can cause & not knowing what is due to the attack & what is med related . Everyone needs to apply a common sense head not a gun ho vet is an idiot shoulda, woulda, coulda approach . If the vet cant help moving forward change if the owner is happy with the vet thats their business but the journey off reconditioning needs to be done by people with a smart head & correct non emotional advice ,those helping this person also need to use a non emotional approach in making sure info given is heard correctly or an ear of listening is a good one . This is a situation regardless life wont be the same & a struggle for both . Someone needs to advocate for the dog just as much for the human in creating a happy pathway moving forward.
  16. We use technyflex powder & had great success. One dog also gets antinol which i buy direct . Many who use antinol use it for one dose & use the human lyprinol for the other to make it more viable

On the topic of exercise it just makes them fitter not drained it means each week they need more exercise to feed the body its an area you wont beat . Your better off looking at mind games which do make the dog tired ,teaches one on one focus & NILIF (nothing in life is free). I have large breeds & dont do dog parks & would never do so with anything under 12 months . Too many life skills go wrong happen there & just one moment of bullying & your up &hit creek for life . My large breed showdogs are taught other dogs dont exist ,im the high value treat . My current boy who is bright as anything would happily run around an oval & he would learn no life skills whats ever except free range madness. Im a big believer in all puppies but large breed teaching mind & body co ordination skills, teaching them focus & body awareness training .So may cheap items can be bought for this & both dogs can enjoy it . As for 2 girls yes we dont recommend it but you have them now so Mangement is a must keeping in mind the drama doesnt usually happen until adults when pushing the order happens or poking the bear . We had 2 best friends who one day turned into world war 3 & had to be separated for life they ticked the box"bitches" bigtime . What i would be managing in the pup is how to cope with not having to protect its human all the time & the skills to switch off . The combo throws in alot of different mindsets ,jobs & traits . The power aspect alone is a big factor when it comes to controlling the leash in adulthood . I would suggest life skills for one on one outings is way more important than dog park running . The first 8 months pups are like sponges in learning ,9 months on that brain starts to be independant so for me instilling foundations that make life nice is so much more important than meeting dogs especially in a powerful breed . I would tend to go more for a Guide dog principal of training especially if your mobility is an issue ,give the pup jobs to do now to ensure the outside world is you only . So many owners teach higher value of other dogs in there pups first off instead of the reverse . I go with if my dog doesnt like other dogs i still have 12 plus years out in public & the public manners are more important than a dogpark whether it be sitting in the vet,at a pet friendly cafe or for my dogs Showdogs in public .
  18. Microchip papers is not pedigree papers all breeders have to follow microchip paper rules thats a given as do rescues in all States . Change of ownership papers would be referring to the pedigree papers so i think your confused about what the OP has posted so the info your given isnt correct . We have a 100% follow through on our contract to spay puppies & have legally pursued 1 buyer who learnt quickly lying about there intentions does not make them win either . Contracts are also based on the fact the item is sold outlining its suitable use . If the contract states no breeding due to a bad mouth,DNA tests results making it a carrier etc then the contract is fit for purpose outling all this . If sold as a carrier then paperwork again would clearly outline all this in the sale contract Sadly this is why some breeders have chosen to spay /vasectomy prior to sale which is not a path we wish to do . Thankfully we have retired from breeding so dont have to deal with certain aspects anymore . The pup we did sell to the contract lawyer did develop a bad mouth after we ran it on & was rehomed based on the contract outling this clearly ,what it wasnt suitable for & due to age spaying to be done at X age for growth. Contracts do stand providing they are reasonable requirements.
  19. This is not true . WA breeders dont have to provide papers . A process must be clearly defined before sale . WA breeders can use the Non Transfer agreement form I/We, the undersigned, acknowledge that it has been fully explained to me/us that the above dog is registered with Dogs West in the current owners name, and will remain registered in that name in accordance with the following regulation - R11 which states: THIS AGREEMENT IS TO BE SIGNED BY ALL PARTIES Payment By Credit Card Mastercard Visa Other Total Due $ Card No Expiry date / Cardholders Name Signature 11.1 All applications to transfer a dog must be submitted on the Association's form. A seller shall be responsible to transfer the ownership of a dog, when a dog is disposed. A completed transfer of ownership form to the new owner must be submitted by the seller to the Association within 90 days of change of ownership. Where it is agreed by the parties that the dog is to remain in the registered ownership of the seller, then a Non-Transfer agreement must be submitted by the seller on the approved form within 90 days of change of ownership. 11.2 A dog subject to a Non-Transfer agreement shall not be transferred to any other party while an agreement is in effect. A Non-Transfer Agreement can only be cancelled on written request from all parties
  20. Im going to say if not done by 7 months there is a reason as late penalty fees start to set in . I would contact the State body with your issue alternatively if you want to send a pm with prefix i can check ANKC database if registered need date of birth
  21. First off you need to ensure the bird is in a no go zone , The back & forth game of you picking up & him running back is simply in his eye a reward behaviour . Until you now how to mange the right way dont set you as a failure to what your expectations are He has no clue of the boundries so you need to set him up for success without the overstimulation of the prize being right there as such also factoring he may never change so management irrespective is going to be a new life skill for the household . Train him without the bird ,you will be invisiable during this time until some mutual respect is earnt by both Dogs learn quick its just a case of finding this ones "cue" i often find traditional obedience can be very boring to a dog so seeking someone who incorporates trick training, hoopers with training is often a fast forward in "getting it" You can do many of these things at home but just think outside the box . Your new,the house is new.your expectations to it are new ,your boundries are new
  22. Actually a correctly written contract does stand up ,it may come down to how much money either side want to spend fighting it . We sold a pup to one of Australias best contract lawyers who helped tweak ours & fully explained the pro/cons/must/must nots & all the must dos prior to accepting any monetary value .
  23. As a Groomer Thankfully not yet & we actually dont groom oodles but yes have seen them .Some very sweet ,most with coats that i dare say the owners dont factor into there life & ongoing expense list
  24. The classic answer of someone who actually has no clue about State regulations or liability . What you may think & what is legal requirements is a big difference . Maybe read this section which applies to Victoria for example & please tell us your view ??This is just a small part of varying state laws (govt) that breeders also have to understand & inform prior to sale based on DNA results . Being a breeder & selling pups is more than just a person saying shouldnt dictate .
