  1. I have had a dog vacc whilst under simply because he is terrified of needles & as he was getting his teeth cleaned & he was relaxed there was less chance of problems. This is a super friendly showdog but can not deal with needles
  2. Okay if you plan to strip your mini it needs to have the correct coat texture to do so.Not every mini has the right coat & that can determine a pet v showdog. Also if the coat isnt correct for hand stripping the dog will be in pain for the process.I would ask your breeder for advice. As a breeder of minis & a groomer i can tell you now very few owners handstrip there minis. It is hardwork & maintance needs to be done weekly on the coat to maintain it. To strip correctly its done over a 6 week period where you pull the coat bald in sections as set areas grow faster. You then wait for it to grow back The coat will last so long(each dog is different plus the maintance ) & the you strip again. You still need to get the ears, throat, bum clipped & the feet, skirt, eye brows trimmed. I would personally suggest unless you plan to show get the dog clipped.99% of pet minis are clipped ,all our retirees are clipped as soon as retired ,it isnt worth the wear & tear on our hands as often those with handstripped breeds end up with joint/athritis problems Minis are prone to skin issues due to often the wrong diet being feed, they are a double coat breed & need a good diet high in essential fatty nutrients. What your feeding could be a problem. I would also say the dandruff is an issue at present as the dogs coat is most likely getting overgrown & when you brush the top coat you are getting alot of stuff coming up so you need to address the grooming side asap & if you plan to handstrip you need to buy the right strippers quickly. We bath our mini in Selsum blue
  3. Very few parlours will allow you to wait & as trimming a dog isnt a quick process & a pup requires time & patience to be spent so its first groom is pleasant. how do you want her groomed?? Are you wanting a groomer who knows how to hand strip her top coat & retain the correct cocker coat or do you plain to clip her off long term?? You need to decide what you want & use a groomer that understands what you want, many will clip her top coat without asking as they havent a clue how to hand strip. Some cocker breeders do grooming so maybe your dogs breeder can suggest someone who nows what there doing. As this is the start of the busy season you get many overnight groomers trying to cash in so pick wisely
  4. A good undercoat rake will do the job well at a very cheap price. The coat kings we use but i always use the undercoat rake more on B/C. The main key is to brush weekly & comb through aswell.
  5. You should be very grateful the other pap has accepted this pup.I dont see why you want it to intergrate more with you when the most important factor with other dogs is for harmony sooner than latter.Your pup has left its other dog mates & is now in the same situation having other dogs to play with & i resume when you brought this pup it was so it could be part of the dog pack not just human only?? If you think forcing the pup to interact with the humans will make it happen your very wrong. This pup sounds like it has a great nature, respect for other dogs & you cant compare it to your other pap otherwise you will become very disappointed. It sounds like this pup doesnt need to grave for humans as its able to cope on its own which is super. When it understands the home routine it will then seek out the humans & you can easily do stuff in the backyard with the oldies shut in. When you cuddle pup, feed pup, toilet train pup you use its name so it will now who it is. I wouldnt force any changes because if the other 2 dogs decide they dont like this little person you will have a big problem .You have it lucky at present so praise that behaviour & everything else will come with time & training & remember no dog is the same within the breed
  6. "no obedience training . and wont be getting any , unless this becomes a continued problem . we assume the dog will outgrow it " If this is what you consider a mature head response then i feel very sorry for this dog. It has bitten your daughter, your son so yes this is a continued problem You have posted since the day it came home about problems with behaviour & now at 10 months your pup still has issues yet you dont choice to be responsable & do training. Your methods arent working so how long do you plan to wait & how many more bad habits will you allow this poor dog to learn before actually doing something . Locking in the shed doesnt teach the dog anything, nor does smacking, tieing up & ignoring. I hope for your sake & the childrens this doesnt end up with a bad incidient & the dog is forced into a not pleasant future
  7. i havent been that involved in playing with the dog . but i meet a dog 1/2 way when they play . if they get rough so do i . but that is play . if a dog were to get carried away and bite , then it's time for ignorance and a lead . what i think he is doing is picking up her fear , when he gets rough . Also believe there was an issue with the same dog attacking your daughter when 5 months old. So what have you being doing regarding training in the last 5 months??
  8. Yes HD scores are only done once & the dog must be 12 months & over for a score. A vet can prelim x ray before 12 months if there is great concern without a score
  9. I would suggest contacting the Cavalier Club of NSW about it.They will be able to advice you on what SM is truley about & how to diagnosis correctly. You also need to inform the breeder the dog is scratching & she what they suggest. Testing has started in Oz & there is a world conference in Scotlan i believe at the end of the month as this is a problem often misunderstood, wrong;y diagnosed Does puppy wear a collar?? If so have you tried taken collar off as some dogs will scratch madly with collars on if there to fancy or have lots of diamenti things, even the council tags can be annoying.
  10. Commensense will tell you feed the cats up high & the dog gets its food & no options. Its doing it because it can & aslong as it can he will decide what food hes eating . The cat food isnt off any benefit to a growing pup. We will occasionally mix tin cat when girls are in season but cat food is for cats dog food is for dogs & if you dont start being the food boss the problem will get worse
  11. My showdogs twice weekly in pantene & yes i use conditioner. But the coat is only as good as its texture, diet & maintance. The product just finishes off the programme
  12. depends on the exact infection often its just drops but for severe issues a short course of tablets may be used plus a good maintance programme there after
  13. "I have been told if you take them out all the time theydont let you know and just wait for you quietly " If you dont take them out how do they learn,by taking pup outside regualar;y & rewarding the dog learns that outside is toilets & to hang on. We have a doggy door so they dogs learn very early they have access at anytime because many people who dont allow access miss the cue & the dog has toileted & learns nothing. Some will teach there dog to ringa bell or push a buzzer to ask to go out but for us we encourage all our puppy owners to allow access for the pup & to take them out as many times to re inforce outside is for toilets
  14. Sadly it seems the outcome isnt great but some dogs do survive the intitial part & then its a battle to maintain there health afterwards.I now someone whose dog has passed the 6 month after mark but it has been very expensive with alot of unknowns on the journey.
  15. Put her on a lead, give her a "command" word & stay with her
  16. Yep a goldies coat does grow back thicker & that awful undercoat grows back more & the good correct coat is ruined. There is no clip as already said there not suppose to be & generally a good brush through with the correct undercoat rakes gets out the coat that sheds, matts & makes them hot.
  17. I okay i will done the Flame suit but i think your making more out of it than it really is & the dog will feel your reaction. Dogs having a tainty in hydrobath is very normal especially the first time. It doesnt sound like the girl did anything wrong ,she may have fluffed it over in your view but when dealing with the public one has to be very public savvy dealing with dogs. If you get too firm many owners think your being rough, your dammed if you do dammed if you dont but for me i just say try again sooner rather than latter & dont worry with given rememdies or potions. Speak to the girl before hand & simply explain what you want to happen with commands etc & bath away. We boarded the police dogs & they where the most ill behaved, manic dogs to hydrobath but they still worked
  18. We are a very mutli dog household but i always say to people remember the saying"2 is company 3 is a crowd" 3 dogs can work out great or it can be a disaster & if the 2 you have now get on very well then i would seriously consider why 3 would be better. Would you be happy to walk & control 3 dogs etc etc We bred minis & yes they like company but we find ours will often pair off for play & not interact as much with some . I agree do check with your local concil & then consider the additional expense of a 3 dog
  19. so I chase her - which she thinks is a great game. This is your answer here " I know its giving in to her game by chasing her, but what else am I supposed to do?" realize she is 10 weeks old & stop expecting miracles especially when you havent trained her to now any better,The dog is doing exactly what you are training her to do "run" . As for things like shoes & toys then im sorry to say but if you leave them laying around then expect to loose them. Electrical cables are more serious & you need to look at the safety issue & prvide adequate measures until the dog understands . "we are doing really well on the training aspect so far." Well actually no,if your dog is running away from you then it doesnt respect you or you are giving it confusing commands. I do ask when you do finally catch her do you tell her off or praise her.she may very well be running the other way as she knows she is in trouble
  20. I would say pup was crying as it wanted to go to the loo & thats why it had the runs. You cant ignore a crying pup all the time.Pups cant hang on & part of toilet training is rewarding them for barking to go out. Some dogs that try so hard to hang on can end up with the runs from the stress of toileting in there area . I would be more inclined to buy a crate & crate train pup as it will be a great benefit any time latter life especially with a child with special needs
  21. I've been told about one vet will do a C5 for $25 without a check up I would run fast from any vet who didnt do a basic health check before a vacc was given.
  22. I use green dish washing detergent first .I always do a prewash to get the grub out & then white shampoo I have tried sards but found it dried the coat & left it harsh . The key is maintance
  23. I dont use either . The trick with whitening shampoos is to use the one that best suits your dog & its coat. Some absorb the whitening too much & become blue. The trick is maintance. Also wash the legs in green dish washing detergent first
  24. I feed twice & find it very easy to do correct portions & find the dogs are much more content
  25. Welcome to the world of thing groomers have to deal with. I would most certainly do it again & it all comes done to the handling & not pandering to the dog.Being confidient, patient & in charge. Some dogs are simply feral in the hydrobath & never accept it but will stand still & tolerate the few mins it takes
