  1. Just go to the chemist & grad some flora max or similiar. We have used the probiotics alot over the years especially tummies are bad or on medication
  2. Welcome to the world of schnauzers Seriously it is an annoying habit & we have a black male that drives us insane. It is training dont feed at the same time.Prepare food whilst the dog is outside
  3. Many groomers use the grooming arm or body noose to make it easier to groom dogs that have no manners at all on the table . Personally i dont use them but many of the show people use the grooming arm & it doesnt cause any issues providing the user uses it in the manner it should be. Its not abuse at all. Many dogs that come in have never been taught to stand still, stand up or infact been taught to be brushed & when these dogs come along it can make grooming very difficult & dangerous. "I have a puppy Pomeranian and am wanting to have him groomed shortly but am wanting a professional to do it first so i can see the proper way of using a slicker brush and comb etc making it as painless on him as possible" Generally with salons you dont stay & watch, the dog will be groomed & then you pick it up. Did the breeder not show you how to brush your dog ??
  4. I agree leaving the jacket on all day unattended will cause much bigger problems & will cause the dog to over heat quicker. Personally the silver eagle jacket whilst costing more is far superior but even then i wouldnt leave it on all day there not designed for that. The idea of the jackets is for cooling down & maintance not all day use .They need to be re activated after a set period otherwise its just like wearing a winter jacket & then creating humdity on the dog which cause much distress. With the crystal jackets once they start to dry out the go stiff. When you wet them they expend & do become very heavy & cumbersome & i would use them as a jacket at all.
  5. JAL infact every thing that cavandra has informed you is very correct & is well know amongst the cavie people who have submitted dogs or belong to the cavie list to be keeped up to date. Alot of time & effort went into getting the testing available in Australia & the price is going down each time for the testing. "I will actually contact this "Claire Rushbridge", the so called only expert in the world. I find it hard to beleive only one person can diagnose this disease. ' Where was it posted she is the only expert ??? This is the person who is taking up the study here in Australia to benefit the breeders as posted then the results been sent off. " uninformed and not welcome. " Actually what is posted is very informed & most likely welcomed by all those involved with the breed or who may learn more from what is posted. I do feel your response was rather weird when the post is off benefit to your dog & the contacts have been given the person in austrlia specializing in this field at present ,if you care about your dog then i would be jumping for joy that someone has given you the best knowledge thats available in australia.many people havent been this lucky
  6. Personally im not a believer of touchy feely whilst they eat especially when they get no reward for sharing. Your pup has no idea why you are touching, she isnt giving anything up nor is she getting anything except to start to feel threatened. You need to start educating the dog on what you want not let her be a mind reader. teach dog to sit, teach dog to share, teach her growling isnt good manners but you need to teach not think that running hands over will do that.
  7. Just another to consider i have found when often when dogs go blind & deaf there sense of smell seems to go aswell. It may not be the case for this girl but with our last few oldies ithas happened to.
  8. Personally i would start with a bland diet & she how she goes.Being an old dog & underweight a food overload may cause the runs . Many poodles can be very thin so it could very well be the go for this girl but i would go with small meals & bland & then after a week or so add some more.If she had rotten teeth that could have been an issue so now she has the chance to eat happily
  9. sadly child waking sleeping dogs up is one of the biggest reaasons they bite/react. You need to either provide pup with a safe area to sleep or crate ,obviously also teaching son a tad more on why pup must sleep & not be woken suddenly. If pup is in the house baby gates make great time out areas. You can select a room where pup can safely sleep without sone being able to annoy. Carrying around i wouldnt let any 6 yr old carry our dogs, one drop & pup breaks. Most likley when he picks it up he is hurting the pup & add these 2 scenarios together & pup is reacting to a situation that its had enough off but is also slowly learning to not enjoy your son & dogs never forget early bad experiences but can be trained to reaccept Feeding i agree you need to be patient & teach pup .If you have a crate feed her in there or buy a cheap wire puppy pen & feed in there. The constant moving back to the spot can make a pup feel its losing something important & doesnt realize at present that all you want is for it to eat in one spot but growling still isnt acceptable & something you need to work with now before something unpleasant happens
  10. Generally a malt cross gets clipped every 8 weeks. The length solely dpends on the quality of coat,if it doesnt have alot of undercoat you wouldnt clip it real short but if it has a good thick undercoat then you can be more creative. We either use the clip on combs or 3/4 3.3/4 blades. These blades are all extras on top of your clippers & its important that you buy a brand of clippers which can use all brands. Not all clippers have interchangable heads. i would also consider still taking the dog to the groomer until it is very happy at being clipped .A bad experience can make a dog fearful of being groomed for life. You will aslon needto set a table or some area that the dog can safely stand, buy small grooming scissors, nail clippers & ear pluckers
  11. yep our pups leave clipped, bathed & blow dried at 8 weeks. 'You dont need special shampoo either
  12. I agree No means No, & it doesnt mean you giggle when you say or hug the pup afterwards because you feel guilty .Its simple No & walk away no fuss,no arm flapping ,no response. Its also time to be the one in charge, whats cute at 8 weeks is no longer fun at 12 weeks & then at 6 months its all too much. Its also time to teach pup to sit so when it does go silly you make pup sit.remember you can vocally say anything but if pup doesnt understand your serious then it wont listen. For me bribery isnt an option but also remember you have agundog & gundogs luv to carry your hand around its there retrieving side. They will hold your clothes etc etc.My old setter would walk around holding my sleeve but when i said no that was it.That treat solely depended on me,what i was wearing & whether i wanted to allow it.
  13. Clipping the inside of the ears out every 4 weeks would help big time. The hair around the ear gets thick & stops the ear from breathing. When the infection hits the ear & its hairy the gunk sits on the hair as it oozes out & then just retransmitt to the ear. Is the problem bodily worse in winter??Does he get wet alot & not dried off?? Its hard to say with the clipping off depending on his coat texture they may like the look which many people do & are entitled to & clipping a springers top coat can create all sorts of havoc,so if the top coat is a great one it would be better left than clipped. Also does the dog have bad feet??Often with bad ears the dogs scratch the ears & transmit the infection to the feet, the feet arent treated so then it scratches the ear & the infection starts again. Also if the dog isnt groomed regularly they end up with hairy feet that pick up all sorts of grub of f the ground Is it a yeasty type of infection?? Personally i do not believe BARF is the fixer of all things but depending on the current diet & treats can help because as we now allergies can be a result of many things. Has the dog always had allergies??or has it only popped up since a set time?? Some of the flea/heartworm stuff can overload a sensitive dog. There are so many things but with ears its maintance & keeping the ears well clipped even if there in show trim.
  14. What do they feed,\?? How often do they clip the ears?? What is there maintance problem?? Regarding the dogs they still got infections & so much harder to clean out
  15. Maybe feed just one brand of premium & add to it.
  16. We groom/board a few dogs that have had this done & my personnal opinion is they where worse afterwards. There are many alternative treatments i would be doing before this
  17. Maybe it's not the 'best' way but it works and perhaps you should accept that other people are allowed to have different opinions to you. I do respect other opinions but have also been around dogs long enough to now the dog is respecting the can not you & when all is said & done it wont solve the problem long term & thats why i dont agree with it. You cant carry a can around all the time to get the dog to stop & when the dog does play up & no can is available the dog has learnt that it can be a free for all. The dog is a Tentie so you cant change its Prey drive . The only reason it is doing its bad stuff is it knows its higher up in the leadership
  18. "Every time I do it, my dog stops what he is doing and looks like he has been anally probed and he comes over to me and acts like the nicest dog in the world." Rhi & Jak this reaction as mentioned by Deltron is because the dog knows the can is associated to the handler ,so whether it hidden or not the can is shaken & then the handler gives the discipline word so it assocaited the noise with the owners voice of being in trouble. Deltron would be better using "clicker Training" or as mentioned TOT
  19. We showed a blue Grey & he was washed prior to every show with no ill effects. We just used head n shoulders or selsum blue. Dobermanns are very prone to this & it happens alot on show days you suddenly see the scurf coming from everywhere,We use to just use one of those clothes brushes that remove fluff from your clothes or a damp clothe & rub over.
  20. Remember though the dog is learning to respect the can not you & thats where this method doesnt always work.
  21. You also need to consdier the summer heat & a dog house will not be the dogs chose of housing in the extreme heat so you need a set up that provides for both winter & the extreme heat of summer
  22. When you shake the coke can what training do you use?? If you want to show this pup also be aware that the can could create an associtian with being naughty & you get a response you dont want especially around strangers.
  23. I have white dogs & staining is all about maintance & when girls are in season there urine is stronger so you need to do more work. There are a few things you can use to remove it slowly but be aware over doing it can also dry the coat out . I will hydrobath in white vinegar. You can make up a Baking soda paste but this can dry the coat so a good conditioning regime must follow. The EZ groom worked at first but then turned the coat orange. Wash the dog in dishwashing detergent but it must be grren
  24. I have the silver eagle jackets & they are brilliant when used for the right purpose. There not used as awet jacket & you follow the instructions to get the best use.I have long coat showdogs & can not get the coat wet but this product has been super in the real heat.I dont leave them on for the full show & as like you i have an early breed (in summer where night shows so the hottest part of the day)i use them to cool the dog off asap so it can relax & be comfy. In the extreme heat i wrapped it in a sealed bag & placed it in the ice Some have used the mats aswell & said there great.I would only buy silver eagle, As for shows hot water bottles frozen last hours & wrapped in pillow case allow for super cooling.Bunnings if lucky also have extremely large ice blaocks(30cm/15cm) but there hard to come buy these are super too. Be careful what ever you do to not create a humid dog as that will be worse than the heat.
  25. I brush.I use dog toothpaste as no point brushing if there s no product on to assist & protect. I also use the dog toothbrush as it has 3 heads & way easier to do the teeth at the back in one go.I also use the rubber finger brush for the front. I do this 3 times a week plus bones. As mine are showdogs with long coats they dont get alot of chews etc as it can ruin the coat so when they do get them its on bath day & they also wear a sleeve shirt to coner the bib & leg coat
