  1. I use a big black bin with a lid from Bunnings. I think it cost $10 and it can easily fit 25kg of kibble. But dogs can work out how to nose it oopen if they watch you open it.....but the mice can't in..... **All edits due to poor spelling *oops* **
  2. Thanks:) Thanks everyone - what fantastic support to find here!!
  3. Ohh my gosh congrats!!! Well done :D thanks! :D he was (is) amazing Seeya Thursday night! I will remember to rug up *brrrrrr*

  8. I started clicker training about 2 months ago....I 'charged the clicker' with yummy treats and not immediately after a meal.... I am finding great success and got started by catching him doing something I wanted, gave the command, clicked, treated......now I can give a command and he does it....then I still click and reward but only when it is done properly.....I use an excited "good one mate" when the session is over other than that I only use my voice for the command like "stand" "wait" "here" etc....(he gets too excited if I use a chirpy voice saying "good boy" all the time during training...that's why the clicker is good for voice sensitive dogs) hope that made sense...
  9. how embarrassing ....yes after being told off we were asked to leave the ring......all my pup did was shake his head when he felt the pressure oh his back, and the judge didn't even let me settle pup or myself before 'lunging' down on his shoulders and head again...so of course pup shook his head again.....the judge got cross at us and said "you'll have to leave" Also...We were the only ones in the ring...the judge just asked us to come in and stack up "because pups have no idea what they are doing"......
  10. Awwwww Awesome!! good luck next time I think this forum is great just to hear about other peoples little hiccups also ;) We are not alone!
  11. Hi whiskedaway, pixie and rally.....Sorry I didn't get back sooner.....mayhem at work.... We were "excused" in our first show and my boy was only 4.5 months old....he wiggled away from the judge twice when he 'lorded' over him and pushed on his shoulders too hard.......no one had ever seen such a debarcle in 25 years of showing.....anyway...it was not a nice first time and it has been hard recovering from it. I am now very aware of what is involved in having a show dog and I really need to get to work training him and getting him to let me stack him.....we are slowly getting there but I need to ring the trainer my breeder suggested (I am currently letting the team down but always take in the hints and tips offered) Now he is going slightly pigeon toed (just a growth stage) and I have no idea how to stack him....I almost want to pack it all in....but I find it quite fun. We are currently standing still with legs even and he stands still while checking teeth, but he is 6 months now and we are falling very behind........ Whisked away....what ring are you in?......it is easy to spot me......white face, shaking legs, and a Ridgeback that is pulling my arm out.....just look for the person with no idea..... hahahaha I will be at the Gawler Show at SACA park on Sunday 17th July......
  12. ;) My first ever show was a nightmare....only onwards and upwards... ;) Thanks for all the help given here, without that it might have been worse (if possible!)
  13. We definately need to know the names of judges. I had my first ever show and I have a baby puppy and the judge was truly rude. I will never enter a show with him as a judge of my group again.
  14. You have to pay GST on orders worth over AU$1000. You also need to pay if they need to treat the items at all - and they shouldn't have to if marked as new. Other than that their are no custom charges You may also have to be concerned if Customs believe the quantity that is being brought in is a commercial quantity. In which case additional fees may be applicable. This is also true
  15. I buy many different items from many different places in the US and I have never been charged customs (not even when they searched one of my packages) I agree with the others that there is only a fee if you go over $1000....a few places wont even deliver to AUST if you order over $1000 in 1 single transaction. I love FedEx and have never had any issues (8 years experience as a FedEx customer - and online shopper! ) I can only write on behalf of myself in Adelaide though.....
  16. YEY, we can enter the show I even worked out the Entry Form Program that's available.....if only the show goes so professionally (just jokes, it will be a mess for us first timers!) Thanks for all the help!
  17. hehehehe - maybe that's the problem?! Or maybe it is scary that he is 7 years old and still needs his purple teddy (yes, it must be purple....)
  18. Alasse - your dog is GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!! I found Diesel at the pound.......He is very black and only a little bit of white. He is strong hardy loyal and amazing dog and he is the cutest smoochie ever..... I agree with the 'hard to photo'....I can't get many of those gorgeous sleeping photos because he looks like a black lump .....I guess a better camera would help ....but outdoors action shots are fantastic I also think that large breeds get a bit of a harder time anyway and being black gives them the 'diablo' namesake. Just makes me super sad that people are like that over a colour of a dog.....
  19. How exciting....Border Terriers are toooooooooo cute
  20. Oh, and one last thing........The website says you can only enter the oval from east or north terrace but under the image map it says enter from port road? I enter from North Terrace - you can only do a left turn from North Terrace though. It's probably the easiest spot to enter from. Head through the intersection of North Terrace and West Terrace towards Port Road, and I'm pretty sure it's the first left turn after that - you go directly into the parking lot from there, and there's a building to the right. They collect the $3 fee under the verandah. Thanks heaps!!
