  1. The 50mm 1.8 is just about the cheapest lens out there and is great value for money because it's fast, sharp and light. That's why so many people have it. I wouldn't be without mine (though I have the 1.4 for the better build quality).

  2. They are alternating with Sydney now. It was in melbourne this year and is in sydney next year.

If any one is going to the sydney one come and say hi. Zero and I are doing flyball demos in the main arena both days. Pretty easy to see who we are - he's the only sibe helping out on the day I think. I don't think the other sibes are coming up from canberra for it.

  3. 52 weeks for dogs is a flickr group that can be joined but as we have learned in the past, not everyone is welcome so we run our own here on DOL and in a special DOL 52 weeks for dogs flickr group.

The orginal group is here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/52weeks4dogs/

The special DOL group is here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/dol52weeksofdog/

  5. Just got a quote for my kitty and it was $95 I was very happy with that as I know they do not cut any corners with pain relief or any other part of the procedure.

Sorry to continue going OT, but when I got my male cat desexed they charged me $60! I had to pick myself up the floor. I was expecting it to be around the $100 mark. He recovered very quickly too.

Mow (my cat) was done at 6 months for the tiny sum of $40. He woke up and came out for a cuddle. The ear tattoo bothered him more than the incision.

  6. I have a pound dog and my next will be a registered puppy. I plan to keep on rescuing sibes though I'm not sure when the next one will be. I understand why the extremists say the things they do but I don't agree with them. Rescue dogs aren't for everyone. Zero was very very broken when I got him. I shudder to think what he would have done in a home where he could do whatever he liked and where his issues weren't properly dealt with.

  7. Don't do it. I did the same thing for a friend, was told they were hiring a professional and when I turned up on the day as a guest who would take a couple of photos because I had my camera there, ended up being "the photographer" because the girl they "hired" was actually just a friend with a 300D and a kit lens. The second the sun went down, she was screwed and she lost interest about 20 seconds in when she saw my camera gear so I got dumped with the whole thing.

The wedding was in may... I'm still having problems with the bride and groom whinging about photos. I'm so over editing and re-editing them and because of all the whinging and bitching they've done, I don't want to be friends with them anymore.

Even though I said no in the first place, I wish I hadn't actually gone to the wedding.

  8. Canon and Nikon are similar in quality and really, you can't go wrong either way. I would always recommend getting one of the two because of the range they have and the quality of the images. I have canon (5D II and 7D) because i prefer the way they feel in my hands but if i didn't have canon, i'd have nikon.

  9. I use the bath down at the local pet barn for Z - he's too big to fit in the bath at home and is petrified of the shower so it's just easier. If he was smaller, I'd put him in the bath but I can't actually get him in there to wash him! The pet barn bath has a disinfectant cycle after every dog and is well maintained so I'm not worried. They do a big clean out every day too.

I would kill for a hydrobath but it's just not going to happen at the moment.

  10. Great Photos everyone! I'd love to attempt a couple myself, but how do you do it? Shell - how did you work out what to focus on? Did you have a tripod?

That one was taken with my old 450D on the step and a remote trigger in my hand - it just auto focused.

Lucky shot that i'm looking at him and he's looking at the camera with a smile on his face.
