  1. Happy Anniversary Honey!! I hope your mummy made you a special dinner to mark the occasion... Deelee - when you told me you were looking at getting a GRR dog, I knew that Wendy would see you right - especially after the nightmare you had been through with the other rescue group. Hugs at you and Honey, T.
  2. The sookiest lala dog I've ever had was a huge intact male Rotti... totally useless as a guard dog - or even obedience training for that matter... the big sook! The scariest thing I've seen with my own dogs is my female gold Lab tearing into the front legs of my Rotti/Pittie cross girl... I have no doubt that my Lab girl could inflict some serious damage on anyone that tried to come into my house uninvited. The Rotti/Pittie cross girl is the doorbell, and gives a very effective display when strangers come to the door, but as soon as I let anyone in, she's just a cuddle trollope... My girls have also decided they don't want to play nice together any more, and keeping them separated can be a huge PITA... but they are both my babies, so I do it... Next time I get a new dog, it will be a male... T.
  3. Well - back when docking was still legal, I had a litter of 9 Rotti pups done (and dewclaws at the same time) for $35 per pup... Personally, I have no idea how to do it myself, and I reckon my vets charge reasonable rates to do it quickly and painlessly. T.
  4. Even more fun when you have TWO... T.
  5. The joys of owning a Labrador... T.
  6. I had 4 pups in one litter that had back dewclaws - removal by my vet at 3 days old was $30 per pup. This was in Sydney. I waited while they were done, and took them home to mumma straight away. T.
  7. Just point it in the right direction, make sure your hands are steady, and push the button P_S... it really is that simple... honest! Here's a link to some more stuff taken with my S5 back in 2007... wandering around Sydney... the best stuff in in October... http://woosie.net/photogallery/index.php T.
  8. I went to Taronga Zoo a while back with my Canon Powershot S5... I think the photos turned out nice... *grin* T.
  9. Very cute pups (kits), but does anyone get the sense that they are being mass bred for the domestic market like some people are doing with regular dogs? The sheds and boxes in the puppy photos are kinda reminiscent of that sort of thing IMHO... T.
  10. Totally love the Lappie trying to be a Whippet... gorgeous! There is definitely something totally awe inspiring when you see great photos of Whippets doing what they do best... poetry in motion captured in stills. Phenomenal photos from Evolving and Kirislin! T.
  11. I do say this with all respect asal... Put a gag in it will you! T.
  12. Have you sought any help from a behaviourist/trainer to try to sort out her issues? That would probably be my next step... T.
  13. Disgruntled ex-employee perhaps? They would know the true value of the equipment... T.
  14. He's attracted to whatever perfume she's wearing... I had a male Rottie that would only look at a bitch in heat if I washed her in a particular doggy shampoo... truly weird! T.
  15. When I had 5 Rotties, the local postie used to stop his bike and come and feed then Schmackos through the gate... the barks mine used to make when he was coming were very excited and happy ones... lol! I applaud the postie who saved the dog, and sincerely hope that the owners of said dog come to the party to cover his medical costs, and give him a huge thank you for saving their pet from what could have been a slow and painful death. T.
  16. ... and that is why I'm somewhat sour on them... too much "discretion" when it suits them, and not enough when it should be applied... and no-one to be answerable to... *sigh* T.
  17. Is Judy able to pay the costs within 3 months, or does she need some help? Have they given back her dogs? T.
  18. Well there goes any reason to develop purebreds in the first place. Its the fact that selective breeding increases the likelihood of traits that led to breed development. People got tired of taking pot luck on traits they wanted in dogs and wanted to improve the odds of getting what they wanted. Those who choose purebred pets today are using the same logic. If you don't care what size, coat, temperament and activity level you get in a dog, then you're far less choosy than most. Ummm... can I clarify MY statement about judging individual dogs on their merits? With a pure bred dog from a great breeder who specifically breeds for certain conformation and some inheritable temperament traits, one is more likely to end up with a dog that is more predictable with regards to physical and temperamental traits. That's a given, and I will never dispute that... ... however, with crossbred dogs of unknown lineage - I prefer to judge the individual dog in front of me instead of generalising about particular breed mixes... T.
  19. Apparently there are some nice waterfalls near the mountains - I must ask my friend where she took her really nice photos of same. And we really need to get down to that spot I told you about on the way past Cobbity (the one on the corner) - that would take some amazing photos at sunset... I'd really like to take Trouble down to Vale of Ah and swim her there - I reckon she'd take some great water shots... T.
  20. From my experience, a large number of people who impulse buy that cute (crossbreed/mongrel) pup from a petshop usually haven't really done much research into what they really want from their pet. Add that to possible physical or mental issues due to the "breeding" of said pup, then less than perfect upbringing (like lack of proper socialisation), and you could well have a recipe for disaster. I've met quite a few really nice little fluffy crosses since becoming involved in rescue... and have met some really not so nice ones at dog parks with their "devoted and loving" owners. There really is no generalisation that can be made about a crossbred dog - it's too much of a lottery based on breeding and environmental issue IMHO. Personally - I prefer to judge each dog individually on it's merits... T.
  21. You got rooly noice photos that day lillypilly... wasn't it fun taking them though... I think we both learned a few new tricks that day... T.
  22. After the rain, we drove around the local area (rural) and got some nice shots of some cows... anyone like cow pics? T.
