  1. I received an email with a whole bunch of data analysed for Blacktown Pound for 2008/09 -

I have just completed our analysis of the Blacktown Pound Statistics from the DLG 08-09. The figures are for Blacktown Pound (9 Councils inc Blacktown) and For Blacktown Council alone. Despite what they tell you, lots of room for improvement - 3,326 animals killed from Blacktown Council, and 4,494 (inc Blacktown Council) across the 9 Councils, is a lot of animals !!

the info is broken down by number sold, rescued, reclaimed etc etc - very comprehensive - if you want to pm me your email address I can onforward the email and the source.

    regards

    MM

  2. Is this run by council or is it privately run?

Please inform Russ Dickens that the MDBA are happy to offer him support.

    Julie

    It's a Council run pound

    Here's the link

And here's info on the For Sale program

    http://www.logan.qld.gov.au/LCC/residents/...saleprogram.htm

(just as well I looked - I notice the price of the dogs has gone up - females now $199 and males $180, and cats only $50)

The also have a Seniors for Seniors program

  3. Rescue groups with a clause 16d are able to obtain dogs from the Pound at no cost, once the dogs have reached their due date, and if they have received no tenders.

Compulsory desexing shouldn't be that hard to implement. Logan Pound (Qld) sells females for $187 and males for $168 - this includes desexing, m'chipping, registration, vaccs etc. After the dog has been purchased it goes to a local vet for desexing - once desexed, the new owner collects the dog from the vet. Any dogs not collected are returned to the pound for resale. Can't see why a similar system wouldn't work for BP so they could get rid of that horrid tender system, and stop the trawling by bybs. Having a tender system doesn't stop bybs - it just makes them wait a bit longer. The only way to stop them is to have comp d/s before release.

If the pound is worried about losing money by doing away with the tender system, they could still recoup funds with the dogs that are sent to the uni for free desexing - the pound is still charging the new owner a fee (which includes desexing) but the pound is not paying for the surgery. If the uni doesn't have enough room for the dogs requiring d/s, then the overflow could go to local vets in the area. And if the dog is already d/s, then that is extra funds for the pound also bec they would still charge the same fees mentioned above.

I don't understand how, in this day and age, some pounds in major cities aren't leading the way and setting the right example by implementing compulsory desexing. Renbury and Canterbury Pounds have comp d/s - why can't the others?

  4. Hi

I was just wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for a chiro on the Sunshine Coast

I have a 13 month old stafford and she was playing with a mates dog another stafford at the beach yesterday, both pretty much full bore the whole time, and she was ok whilst playing but after a nanny nap when we got home she pulled up a bit proppy on her back leg, she could put weight on it but chose not to. She is a lot better today but still a bit wary of putting her leg down totally. She doesn't react much when you touch her back leg so I am hoping that its nothing broken/fractured, maybe just a strain/sprain.

I was over on the stafford forum and one of the posters mentioned maybe a trip to a chiro with some rest was on the cards.

any advice would be greatly appreciated

    cheers

    Jason

There is Gary Pitt at Morayfield - 5497 8378 - I took my girl to him and he certainly seemed to know what he was talking about - flexible hours and very reasonable rates

  5. This is one of the kindest things I've ever experienced I have no way to know who sent it, but there is a beautiful soul working in the dead letter office of the US Postal Service. Our 14 year old dog, Abbey, died last month. The day after she died, my 4 year old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey. She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we could so she dictated these words:

    3123980943_6141a4eed1.jpg

    Dear God,

Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick.

I hope you will play with her. She likes to play with balls and to swim. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her. You will know that she is my dog. I really miss her.

    Love, Meredith.

We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it. Then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post office. A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought He had.

Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed, 'To Meredith' , in an unfamiliar hand. Meredith opened it. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, 'When a Pet Dies.' Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope. On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this note:

    Dear Meredith

    Abbey arrived safely in heaven.

Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right away.

Abbey isn't sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don't need our bodies in heaven, I don't have any pockets to keep your picture in, so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by.

Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you.

I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much.

By the way, I'm easy to find, I am wherever there is love.

    Love

    God

  6. My BARF man delivered me 2 rabbit flavour boxes by accident a few weeks ago and my kids wont eat them.

The business owners replaced them with chicken ones for me that same day for the mess up but werent able to accept them back for obvious health and safety reasons. Instead they told me to keep them.

I have only opened one pattie and it went into the rubbish in no time!!!

If anybody would like the two boxes of them they are free but you will need to pick them up (Brisbane North) and youll need to get them before bin day (lol) which is Thursday.

Let me know if youd like them

I'm sure the Peninsula Animal Aid at Clontarf would probably appreciate any free food that was going

  7. Thanks everyone. I don't like to go to pet stores as I don't like the fact that they sell puppies and I don't want to give them my hard earned dollars. I will look into the others though.

Pet Cafe at Redcliffe is great - good range of fresh food supplies and treats - plus they don't sell puppies, kittens etc
