  1. About 10 seconds. He bites them in half, crunch, crunch, gone. I usually freeze them so it takes him a few minutes instead
  2. I tried Coprice with our foster, her coat looked fine but poop output was through the roof, with lots of farting. She's back on RC now and heaps better.
  3. I have found the cheapest and easiest for my large breed dog is Sentinel Spectrum (or Interceptor Spectrum if fleas are not a problem in your area - they aren't in ours). If ticks were in our area I'd probably use a tick collar as well.
  4. I don't know about the technicalities but our dog gets his once a day. We also sprinkle it on dry food if he's not getting anything moist that day. It still works for us
  5. Have you thought about freezing the bones? My boy eats chicken frames in two bites, but if I freeze them it takes him about 10 minutes as it forces him to chew.
  6. I have a 40kg dog and he wears a normal flat collar. He occasionally pulls (we got him as an adult rescue), but I still find him easy to control on the flat collar. The only time he's pulled me a few metres is when he surprised me on slippery ground, so now I walk him close and don't give him too much leash in those situations.
  7. Holes in the middle of the grass? I wouldn't know what that's like... Once I resigned myself to the fact that our yard will need completely new turf one day, and that I was doing everything I could to ensure my dog was happy and healthy, it became much less stressful. He likes digging holes - oh well. Giving him a sandpit and hiding things there DID help and he now only digs occasionally. We also worked out that he digs if he's been given a bone in the yard the night before, must be because the smell sticks around. Also, he might just need some more adjustment time - our boy was still "settling in" for at least 6 months, if not more.
  8. Something wet and smelly like Raw meat (lamb or beef) or BBQ chicken if you don't want to get too messy.
  9. Yes, most bones give Satchmo the runs. The only ones he is fine with chicken frames/wings and lean lamb ribs.
  10. The only problem with the Hound House is that if it gets REALLY windy, it seems to just... blow away! And ours is the XL!
  11. OH's childhood dog (shepherd x) did this all her life too, when she was excited.
  12. We just had Satchmo vaccinated with Nobivac C3 3 year, plus Nobivac KC intranasal. This is what our vet recommends. The cost of the vaccination was $59 (on top of the consult fee).
  13. Awww, cute! I've tried blowing on Satch's nose too, he gets up and walks away!
  14. I have a "zen dog" that just looks mournful and doesn't react when I attach a peg to his face! I gave up trying to teach it pretty quickly after that
  15. Here are some pics of our adult dog in his crate. We leave the door open to give him some freedom, but he doesn't mind if we close it when we have visitors/need to keep him contained.
  16. Just as an example of all dogs being different, the packet says to feed my dog 4 cups a day. To keep him at a nice lowish weight he gets 1 cup + an extra such as a tin of sardines or two chicken wings. It took us ages to work out the right amount of food for him.
  17. It depends on the dog. If she actually chases it at least she's interested to some degree! Try squeaky toys, soft toys, ropes etc as she might like them more. Many dogs have to be taught to pick up the items and bring them back. My dog doesn't chase toys and doesn't fetch!
  18. We had the same comment from the vet about our 4 year old rescue - that his hips feel tight and he doesn't like when she pulled back on them. We did notice that after a big session of play he walked slower and lay down a lot, but apart from that nothing. He's now been on Jointguard for about 8 months and we have definitely noticed a difference. He doesn't slow down at all now and doesn't care as much about his hips being pulled. I'd definitely recommend it!
  19. My dog eats grass; he doesn't get veggies as he won't eat them, even pulped.
  20. Yep, we love turkey here too! Have never had any issues with it.
  21. I'd probably suggest a bit less food too, some dogs just need less than others. My dog needs way less than the average for his size. He is about 38kg, and to maintain his weight he gets 1.5 cups RC a day plus either 2 chicken wings, tin of sardines, a few tbsp pet mince. Also a small amount of frozen Nature's Gift tinned in his Kong when we are at work. He also has a fluffy bum As long as we give him a brush every few days we don't seem to have any issues.
  22. Did a quick google search and found this: https://www.dogsandthecity.com.au/product.p...=244&page=2 Also a few online stores with the hide-a-bee and cube ones
  23. Interesting thread because Satch (4yo) was waking us up during the night last week. Previously he had NEVER woken us without reason, but last week he just kept doing it up to three times a night. He's gone back to sleeping through the night, but it's interesting that the last few weeks have been weird for a few people and their doggies.
  24. When crate training our dog at 3, he was doing the same thing -- getting in but getting straight back out. One night we put a doona in there instead of just his bed... he went in and stayed in all night with the door open! So maybe something soft would help
  25. Our dog stayed with our friend for 2 weeks over Xmas, she has another dog and they get along brilliantly. When we arrived to pick him up he ran straight past us chasing the other dog! After about 5 seconds, he did a double take, came over like "oh, I remember you!", had a pat then ran off to play again! Although not the lovely bum wagging welcome, it was great to see that he had had such a great time while we were gone
