  1. I see so many overweight dogs and I’m constantly being criticised for my whippet and Italian greyhounds because people think they’re too thin.  My brother abused me for starving them. Meanwhile his own commercial fed dogs were grossly overweight and riddled with fleas.

The majority of dogs I see are overweight and people think they’re the normal ones. Many people aren’t used to seeing lean healthy dogs.

if people have fat whippets they Cooley call them Whoppets and think it’s cute. They say “ as long as they’re happy”. If you try to suggest it’s not good for their dog you’re accused of fat shaming.

I feel it brought to light the sad fact show people morph their chosen breed in the chase to win at the expense of the breeds health and well being, labeling the changes as "improving" the breed.

Those who tried to point out this not not fair on the animals were ignored. At best.

Labled as puppy farmers and persecuted to resign their membership at worst. The message being, walk to the same beat or get out before your pushed.

Sadly that doco was the only thing to bring it to the attention of the world in the worst possible way, but many pet owners were already very unhappy with the changes happening, it is so strange that the show breeders seem unable to understand morphing, is not "improving"  .

as for the breeder who told me she "would never keep second best just because it had no hernias, when they are not a disqualification and anyway, I doubt you will find a hernia free cavalier within 10 years!" Because of her attitude all her dogs had hernia's?  Ok she had many generations of champions, But how on earth is that maintaining the breed?

so many breeds today are riddled with hernia's because so many have the same attitude.  That's just one that the show scene ignores to the detriment to the quality of life of the individuals they breed. Meanwhile oblivious to the pet owning public being appalled at how hard it is to find a puppy without the problem.

so many things in pups bred for the show scene the pet people dont want to see in their pup.   The show world was already alienating people long before Pedigree dogs exposed went to air.

The list is long, is enough time left to rectify?

at lest its not just dogs the show scene has morphed

Although my uncles were white, not tabby, their faces side on were the same as the cat above. in the face's on photo below, they seem shorter? Ear size was the same as the cat above as well.   I suspect the white and red are kittens, hence the different appearance due to their age.

probably same problems to be found in the dog breeds who have lost their muzzles too.

Horse breeds are being morphed too resulting in soundness issues in many forms.

I’d love to see how that poor deformed foal moves. Do you have any more information on it?

  3. I bought a puppy from a breeder who usually sells on the limited register and although not discussed with her I’m sure she would NOT want the puppies she sells as pets only to be bred from.  From the very outset I told her I am a registered breeder and would want the puppy on the full register, even though I don’t know if I will ever breed from him.  I would imagine she checked out that I was legit and then she had no problem selling him to me on the full register.

if I wasn’t a registered breeder I don’t think she would’ve sold him to me under these conditions.   I think that’s fair enough.

Very strange.  I have grown up with horses all my life (70yrs) & never seen a chestnut that colour before.  Maybe it is the colour that comes out on my computer screen as being not chestnut

The horse laying down in the last photo is a chestnut colour with the same colour mane.  It doesn’t have a black mane.

Both look like bays to me.  The one on the beach is a different horse...that one is a chestnut

The last photo  in the article shows a man lying on a chestnut horse but it says it’s Lunar. Unless he just calls all the horse he has Lunar then it’s the wrong horse.

    Kath: What's your dog's name?

    Kim: Shh, it's Secret.

Kath: No? But you can tell me the secret name.....

(I know someone who named their dog "Guess" - you will never guess what happened...)

You predicted correctly, this happens quite a bit.   People ask me what her name is and when I say Secret they think I don’t want to tell them her name!

I like secret. I also know a secret, she lives with a friend overseas.

They call her "seeky" as a pet name, amongst other similar variations. But it is similar-ish to inky biggrin.gif

ETA: both super cute. And you can always incorporate the other/both into the registered name?

This thread is years old but for some reason I’ve found myself reading it and noticed this comment. I had to smile because Secret does indeed get called Seekie.  Funny thing is even though her mum Neko sounds nothing like Secret, Neko gets called Neekie. Then I get all tongue tied and flustered when I’m calling Seekie but mean to call Neekie. :hitself:I end up saying SNEEKIE.

  8. Happy 9th birthday to my darling Neko!  My brave but scaredy, clever and silly, all rolled into one.

Arkey and Milton have both gone too soon but mum Widget is still with us at 14 1/2 her eye sight is fading, but then so is mine.  Thankyou beautiful Widget for giving me Neko.  And from Neko we have Obi, Crickett and of course Secret. From Obi we have Sissy who is just at the beginning of what looks like a promising show career, and so it goes on.  Here is a photo of Neko today, on her 9th birthday.  She used to have a dazzling white neck but the skin has turned dark and the fur has mostly fallen out.
for her birthday dinner they’re getting slow roasted pulled lamb with all the trimmings.  I deliberately haven’t put salt or pepper on it. Whatever is left for me, I’ll have to add them then.
