this is why I have chosen Bravecto; NexGuard = once a month treatment (1 month for flea and paralysis tick) Bravecto = 4 monthly treatment (4 month for paralysis tick, 3 month for fleas) http://www.nexgard.com.au/Pages/about-nexgard.aspx http://www.bravecto.com.au/

Thank you Tx and Px I read a little more about them both and will probably go with the Bravecto Px...is your Westie-friend going to the Christmas Party? there are usually around 130 Westies there, always a good time!
-
has anyone here had any problems with NexGuard or Bravecto My Advantix is nearly out so I thought I'd try either of these though the Bravecto seems the better option as it cover for 12 weeks while the NexGuard is only for 30 days any info would be appreciated

Yep, I am such a tight a$$

Thanks Pk The Westies should be fine I can't be bothered with the daily tablet, the monthly one is much more convenient. Do you know of a heaver-dog chew/tablet that I can cut in half?...much more economical I have looked at this page and am getting more and more confused http://www.ovedshors...m-preventatives No Thanks to Proheart for discontinuing the good product I have been using for 15 years eta, I took another look and maybe the Heartgold is the go as 1/2 a chewie can be given monthly, there are 20 chewies in the container so that will last for 20 months as I have two Westies. Give one Heartgold Chewable per 12-22Kg Monthly. DOSE RATE: Dogs less than 12Kg bodyweight, give half a chewable monthly. May be given to pregnant and stud dogs. Do not use in puppies under 6 weeks old. Treatment for Heartworm should occur regularly at 28-30 day intervals. The first chewable should be given before exposure to infected mosquitoes and only given to heartworm free dogs. Active ingredient: Ivermectin http://www.ovedshors...e-chews-12-22kg these Nuheart medium look ok also--> http://www.ovedshorseandpetstore.com.au/nuheart-heartworm-for-dogs they can be halved by the looks of the tablet/chewie and work out at a fairly good price

Yes, I remember now PK, I remember I had read somewhere that Border collies have a bad reaction to Ivermectin. Do you know if there any other monthly tablet/chew that doesn't have ivermection as the ingredient? I don't forget to do monthly
-
This is copied from the info sheet: Proheart for dogs is a tablet used for the prevention of heartworm disease. Proheart Tablets contain the active ingredient Moxidectin (not ivermectin) and are given once a month for the prevention of heartworm disease caused by the parasitic worm Dirofilaria Immitis in dogs. Proheart eliminates the heartworm larvae that infect the dog during the previous month. Heartworm is spread by infected mosquitoes another question; Is there any benefit in using Moxidectin over ivermectin? (considering I can't buy Proheart anyway this question is probably a waste of time) :D
-
I had been using ProHeart but now I am unable to buy it, seems to be discontinued. I found it economical as I'd buy the tablet for the larger/heavier dogs and halve it. What other good heartworm meds are available that are monthly and come in tablet form and treat only heartworm?...not any other worms (like gut-worms) I had been tossing round the idea of getting the annual HW injection...it's about $70 which is pretty well up there in price so I'll probably just stick to the monthly tablets. Hoping DOLers can suggest a good alternative.

O Maddy, I am so sorry. What a beautiful boy Gone too soon

maybe buy a second-hand chest freezer,...one of those smaller ones. You can pick them up on Scumtree cheaply (or at the re-cycle dump-shop) They are ideal to store the bags of dog food and the cold will also kill any weevil eggs that happen to be lurking in the kibble.

and, of course, DDD's little red guy; Danny O My, they will have good times

O Isabel, I am so sorry. Your letter of love is hard to read through misty eyes. It's just so hard for you to say goodbye, but talking to her and letting her finally put her head in your hand when she went over the Bridge is the best gift you could give her. You will never forget her passing but more and more of the good-time-together memories take over from your grief and they are the happy-ever-after gifts Jindi has given to you. There are some pretty neat DOLer-dogs who will welcome her. Have fun over the Bridge dear little Jindi. xx

Hey Mita, can you contact them and get them to correct the location spelling as it may be confusing (well to some anyway) Pet Stock, Carrindale should read Pet Stock, Carindale I hope it's successful and they make heaps of money for their tiny rescues
-
why?...because I call a spade a spade? Not at all; you come in boots and all and are so forceful with your answers that, I for one, skip over your posts as they are frequently worded to be hurtful and humiliating A pity as you may have posted some pertinent, interesting info which I would miss out on when I skip your posts; because of the likelihood of feeling bullied and stupid.

It's not the wind whistling through tiny gaps between the window and frame? Saffy was growling and mumbling and generally carrying on like a pork chop a couple of days ago when the wind was 54k's

Posting this here rather than the 'News' forum as more DOLers will see it http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-10-10/research-company-calls-out-for-12000-ticks-top-end/7918028 Wanted: NSW researchers need 12,000 specimens from 'brown dog tick capital of Australia' 105.7 ABC Darwin Posted about 3 hours ago Photo: This dog infested with brown dog ticks in the Kimberly was treated by a remote vet shortly afterwards. (Supplied: The Ark Animal Hospital) Related Story: 'Dab, don't grab' and 'freeze, don't squeeze' as tick season kicks off A research company's call-out for Top End ticks at 50 cents a pop has spawned side projects offering to collect the blood-sucking parasites in return for beer and free pest control. New South Wales-based company VetX has for several years collected ticks from across the country for its veterinary research projects. "We're looking for better treatments to kill ticks and take care of dogs," Andy Muller from VetX said. The company is targeting Darwin residents and businesses that might want to search, scrape and send off brown dog ticks to them in the post. "Darwin is the brown dog tick capital of Australia," Mr Muller said. "It's to do with the climate. The dog ticks do really like the warm and humid weather. It's also about having a lot of dogs in the suburban setting. "That's why we've targeted Darwin as the main place to collect the ticks. "We see them in northern Australia and the east coast as well, but Darwin is definitely the hot spot. Put it on the souvenir postcard." Ticks in take-away containers Mr Muller said previous call-outs for ticks had seen 15,000 sent in, with the company looking for at least 12,000 this time round. Unfortunately, the ticks cannot be grabbed off dogs, as ticks that have gorged already on an animal cannot feed again. "They need to be live and un-engorged. So what I'm looking for is the places that are heavily infested," Mr Muller said. "You get some places that might have 10 ticks climbing up under the furniture or windowsill, but we really want the places where they're climbing up the walls. "A thousand ticks in a few square metres. We want people ultimately who've got more than 400 or 500 at a time to make it viable." But how then do you get those ticks to the researchers in northern NSW? "Get a dustpan and broom and sweep them off the side of the walls or between crevices," Mr Muller said. Collectors are then advised to pop the ticks in a take-away container, punch a few holes in the top, wrap it in an old stocking and send it off in registered post or with a courier. "Once you do the collection, you'd want to send them within a few days. They won't die in post as long as you keep them cool," Mr Muller said. Tick call-out spawns entrepreneurial ideas With the company paying 50 cents, plus postage, for each tick received alive, the strange assignment could "be very lucrative", Mr Muller said. Photo: A post on the page Darwin Beer Economy calling out for people to donate their ticks in exchange for beer and free pest control. (Facebook) Mr Muller said he would also travel in Darwin in early December to do some collecting himself, with the reward of 50 cents a tick still on offer then. Those who cannot wait that long, though, might just settle for a six-pack of beer and some free pest control. Popping up on the social media site Darwin Beer Economy last week, one entrepreneur offered to come collect ticks from people's houses as part of a third-party collection for VetX. "Please only contact if you have a massive issue," the post by a local pest control company read. "No ticks, no beer, no spray."

Eleuphrat Cortisone Ointment For Dogs?
Boronia replied to Boronia's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
yes, thanks Jemappelle, I Wikipedia'd it and it says--> Prednisolone is a synthetic glucocorticoid, a derivative of cortisol I will put some of the Amacin it on Henry's feet now. I as still asking if any DOLer knows if the Eleuphrat ointment will be safe for Henry as I have an unopened tube. To buy the other products suggested means I'd need to go to the mainland so was hoping that the stuff I have here will do the job, when I next go over I'll get some Neotopic-H lotion as suggested by Mjosa (thank you) and some stinkin' Malaseb (thank you jemappelle) -
Henry had bad matts between his pads. I carefully cut them out (he just lay there and enjoyed it),. His skin between his pads is red, bumpy and sore-looking. I have been bathing his feet in vinegar and water and applying calendula cream but they are not healing as fast as I'd like, or expect. My friend gave me some Eleuphrat ointment to try, Eleuphrat ointment 0.05% (Betamethasone Dipropionate Equiv to Betamethasone 0.5mg/g. Topical Corticosteroid) I also have Amacin eye and ear ointment (neomycin, polymxin, B sulphate, sulfacetamide sodium, prednisolone) so maybe I should try this as well/instead of the cortisone I feel as though I need to start again with the 'Big Guns' and get rid of his sore feet I don't think it warrants a vet visit and I have these ointments on hand and feel that the corticosteroid will lessen the itchiness/inflammation but am unsure if I should use it. I'd appreciate some advise; thanks Henry just waiting....

If the seller's email is [email protected] and you Google that email he also has Pomeranians for sale in Hobart (they are sold as Playful Pomeranians...a better type apparently), and Alaskan Malamutes in Victoria There are 22 Shiba Inu breeders listed on DOL so start phoning to have a chat with breeders in regards to buying a pup or an older dog
