  1. Ohh look at that sweet face. I hope you get to the bottom of this and that stubble grows into a lovely coat. I cant believe how rude people are to make negative comments. I am glad that you try not to let them bother you. It is obvious from your posts how much you love your dog and I am thankful that she has such a caring home. My best wishes to you both.
  2. The only type of bedding Molly wouldnt chew up when we brought her home was a Hessian sack. I felt so bad but after going through so many beds, including trampoline ones and newspaper we found for some reason she did not like chewing hessian. Both dogs now have foam filled hessian and as long as I put a woolen blanket only on top we have no further problems. Hopefully you will find something your pup does not like to chew. The bitter spray on the corners of the sack helped too.
  3. I am sorry to hear of these negative experiences with Pooikinuk. I have ordered from them several times with no problems. The one time what I ordered was out of stock in the size bag I wanted (Eagle pack) I got a phone call the next morning asking if I would like the bigger bag instead which I agreed and it arrived the next day. This was a while ago now, perhaps they are much busier these days.
  4. I am not sure where in Melbourne you are but if you are in the Berwick area Berwick Veterinary Hospital on Clyde road has vets trained to take Pennhipp xrays.Mokha has HD in both hips and we were referred to Chris Preston an orthopedic vet for the possibility of a TPO being done but in the end under Mr Prestons advice did not go ahead with it. He did however had an operation for his ED which at the time was causing far more pain and problems. I hope you can find someone who has some knowledge on Bulldogs as this is a huge decision to make in respect to expense and recovery time for your dog.
  5. My teenage daughter washes both our labs in the shower with her in there too. We have a shower head the detaches from the wall so it is quite easy. She just sends them out to me to dry when they are done.
  6. We just use Sentinel as it covers everything except adult fleas. Used monthly I have never had a flea problem. If you do spot an adult flea you can just give a capstar tablet, they are inexpensive and will kill adult fleas starting in about 1/2 an hour. I think advantix is the one you shouldnt use if you have cats but advantage is an alternative that does the flea side of things.
  7. I have just made the change from EaglePack. Molly has always done really well on the Natural or Original formula and it was a good price. I just got so sick of not being able to get a bag when I needed it and my local supplier tried to get it for me and was equally frustrated. I have switched Molly to Nutro lamb and rice. She loves it but I am in early days so I dont know how she will go regards coat and energy levels etc. It has lower protein than the Eagle pack original which was her main food so we will see. On the positive side it feels good to buy Australian made.I am thinking of trying Black Hawk when I get through the 30kg of Nutro I have.
  8. Your story makes me want to say yes, why bother when owners are so irresponsible. Today however I was out the front talking to my neighbor who is moving away and I saw an offlead golden retriever walking through the roundabout with two teenagers walking in the same direction. Thought to myself "put your dog on lead" but was too far for them to hear anyway. A couple of minutes later a frantic woman pulls up and asks have I seen a golden retriever, all I could do was point her in the right direction that the dog went. If I had thought for a minute the dog was not with the teenagers I would have grabbed it for sure. I felt so bad, so yes I will not make that mistake again and assume someone is the owner who is walking nearby and if the owner is not grateful well at least I can know I tried. ETA I did get in my car and drive around the streets looking for the dog but never came across it, I hope it got home safely.
  9. I had the opposite experience and I am thankful both my vet and specialist were more cautious. Pennhipp xrays showed severe laxity in both hips and Mokha began to show signs of a problem. My vet referred me to ortho specialist, he could have operated straight away and got my money, I would have agreed. Instead he monitored Mokha for the next six months to see if surgery was warranted, we were talking a TPO on both hips here. As we reached the cut off age for this surgery ortho said he didnt think the surgery was warranted as Mokha was doing well and his elbow was the main concern by then having been diagnosed with ED from symptoms and xray examined by specialist. Surgery was done very successfully on elbow and conservative treatment on hips. He could have made thousands more off me but acted in Mokhas best interest. Mokhas hips are troubling him now a year on but hopefully in the warmer months he will be more comfortable. Do I regret not doing the TPO, sometimes I wonder but it would have meant so much pain and exercise restriction to do both hips his life would have been very difficult especially with his elbow as well. I am so glad I can rely on both my vets(at same practise) to do the right thing for my dog, if you cant trust your vet where does that leave you.
  10. These weren't the type of people one would be civil to. They were nasty, bitter and cranky women. I would have picked another descriptor if it fitted them, but this was the only way to describe them. I had had the pleasure of (unintentionally) overhearing the conversation for a few blocks and can tell you they would complain about winning the lotto, they were bemoaning just about everything else. Sorry if I have offended you, but that's them apples. No, they're not apples. They're human beings. Two strangers behind you, & you put yourself in the position of coming up with an assessment of them as 'nasty & bitter'. So now you come up with the 'rider' that you listened to their conversation 'for a few blocks'. Your story rings of contrivance. Did it really happen? And, I repeat, it's uncivil to refer to older women as 'old crones'. The way I read it the two ladies were the ones who made the rude assumption( Mum who is obviously not lazy as she managed to get her, her two small children and the dog all out of the house for a walk)OP wouldnt not have posted about them had they not said that about the Mum. I am glad she did the right thing.
  11. Mokha had the same problem. Had it taken out when he was neutured, no further problems since.
  12. I would love a GAP greyhound one day. This just shows me why. A photo does tell the story.
  13. I remember reading your posts indigirl as you were going through this , it was heartbreaking. Thank goodness I have never been through this myself and will be checking this thread constantly hoping for happy updates. I hope that the Vit K does its thing and you will be able to look back on this as a scary time but with a happy ending. for Bonnie and Indi
  14. Whoops , hit wrong button I have not ordered from them yet, but have certainly been keeping an eye on their great prices. I believe they have two shop fronts so at least if you have any problems you can walk in and get assistance. Its a shame but I dont think you can get the internet price going into the shop.
  15. I definitely think it was a set up perpetrated by the evil stray cats of the neighborhood in a plot to undermine your dogs territory and over throw their supreme power as protectors of your yard.
  16. Mokha had one of these in his groin and we had it drained while he was under general anesthetic for other reasons. It had not responded to anti biotics but after being drained it went away. Mokhas infected follicle was only small though but it irritated him so he wanted to lick it all the time.
  17. I loved every photo. Think of all those rehomed pooches who have had a lovely positive experience living with your son who obviously has a real love of dogs.
  18. I assume you wont be using her services again. What a piece of work she is.If she goes around speaking to clients like that her business will be broke in no time.
  19. I hope Crissy is on the mend and not too upset by all this. I must say I feel sorry for your OH, can you imagine how guilty he is feeling. I think it is really sweet how he said he is never going to yell at her again.
  20. We have the problem where our neighbours dog keeps digging under the fence so we have put wood, the width of a reg gum sleeper but longer and secured them with tent pegs along that side.If you dig them in a bit they stay nice and secure. Worked for us although the digging was coming from the other side of the fence. The bonus was it was fast to do.
  21. My main concern along with the lung worm (never heard of it before) would be if any of your neighbours use snail bait that the snails could have poisen in them, especially if she is eating lots of them. We had the same problem with Mokha so had to be very vigilant about catching him trying to eat them and telling him to leave it. Thankfully he did loose interest in them as he got older, probably about a year of age, and he is a labrador so giving up eating anything that is edible is a miracle.
  22. You can buy support harness through Dogs in Motion in Vic. link
  23. Wow, that is great news. I wonder who gave up the thief.
  24. I hope someone with some knowledge posts soon to help you. I wanted to say how sorry I am to hear Riley has passed away in such a way. I think Mia might be feeling very uncertain at the moment with Rileys sudden disappearance. I hope you can find some help for your little Mia.
