  1. I agree with you. If breeders want people to not be afraid of contacting them to enquire about pups , pulling apart peoples emails on a public forum is a bit of a put off.It may be someone genuinely looking for a dog but because they dont know all the right questions you will write them off without a chance. Maybe they do not speak or write in fluent english or did not want to overload with questions unless the pup was still available. It was after all just an initial email. If you email them back you may find the information you are looking for, if they dont measure up well what harms done.
  2. I am so sorry about your dog. I was actually going there at that time but changed plans and headed to an off lead park instead, couldnt be bothered with wet dogs. I wish I had gone. Surely someone will come forward. I go there often, if I hear anyone talking about it I will definitely let you know and see if they will let me have their contact number. Best wishes to a speedy recovery.
  3. Yes I did notice that so I looked elsewhere to see what the tartan ones look like. WHich one do you have for Mokha? Mokha has the dark green waterproof outer with a fleecy lining. It looks like the one in the pic just different color. I got it from Dandenong Markets for $30 I think. Mokha loves it and it keeps him lovely and warm on these cold days we are having. The belly strap was quite long but once I adjusted the length of that it stays on really well. It must be comfortable or Mokha would try to rip it off.
  4. This woman is completely rude and your council ranger needs to be sacked. I would be writing to the Mayor and your local Member of Parliament about the wasted pay packet going to your ranger if he/she is not doing their job. It is so not your responsibility to babysit a repeat offenders dogs so she can avoid a fine. These dogs need to go to the pound so she can learn a lesson. I can not believe how rude people are these days to take advantage of someone who obviously has a caring nature and stays home to look after someone elses responsibility. Wow this has made me really mad.
  5. Not sure if you noticed that the pictured product is not the one for sale. The blue one on the dog looks like my showerproof/fleece lined jacket, the one for sale is a tartan lighter weight one. The one I have for Mokha I really like although I had to shorten the chest strap on the one designed for lab size dogs.
  6. I thought the same thing when I first saw the pics. I wasnt sure if dogs get melanomas. I wonder what they are.
  7. Yeah, thats what I was thinking that it might be an infection of some description?? Yeah, i think i'll pop into the vets this arv Did you get to the vets. I am very curious what these are.
  8. Actually the laundry room is tiny so I think it will do. The actual floor space to walk is about .7 by 2.2 metres (yes, I actually measured it ). I hope everything is going well. I didnt think there was anyone with a laundry smaller than mine.
  9. Congratulations on your dog. Beagle pups are so adorable.I am assuming Millie is a pup, not an older already trained dog. My experience for what its worth was that it was hard going that first 12 months after we brought Molly home. Mokha was just over 4 months old when we saw Molly who was estimated at 6 months old on a shelter website but our vet said more likely a year old. She was completely untrained so having a big pup and a little pup to train took up lots of time, Mokha picked up some bad habits of Molly (chewing bedding). I had to give them lots of individual time and with a family, work etc it was a busy busy time. I would suggest that you get the first one trained before adding another. I am sure others may have a different opinion but I personally wouldnt probably have two so close in age again. Especially since I will have two seniors at the same time with the extra needs and expenses. Next time I will probably have a gap of a couple of years.
  10. What a cutie. Who wouldnt want a kiss from that beautiful face. Amazing how fast they grow up isnt it.
  11. Is there anyone you could borrow a baby gate from so you could section of a smaller part of your laundry room, we did this when Molly came home from the shelter as she had just been spayed.
  12. Thanks for that info, I will have to bring it up with Mokhas vet too. He has been on the monthly injection schedule for a year now. Its hard to know which way to go but if that is the suggestion that would explain why Ellies vet suggested the four shots.
  13. Although Mokha did not have this type of surgery he had arthroscopic surgery for OCD of the elbow at 1 year of age. He had used a crate as a pup but I wished I had kept it up as it was a problem keeping him quiet after his surgery, evening confining him to a small penned area he would still try to jump up as he so desperately wanted to get out and play with our other lab. He was either on a very short lead for toileting or we had to use the crate. He did not like it and did put on a little weight because I would give him a kong to quieten him down. At times we crated our other lab so Mokha could be out of it but he would be on lead and with me. It was exhausting to say the least. I just dont know how you can get around the situation without a crate. If you can get a crate today at least you can introduce her to it,give her treats in there so when she comes home maybe it wont be so frightening to her. Good luck.
  14. I am sorry to hear of Ellies' troubles. Poor girl to loose her tail like that. Mokha is on Zydax and it was my understanding that the one shot a week was the initial dose then at intervals to be decided, in Mokhas case he has them monthly. I would have thought that she only needed the booster if six monthly was her treatment protocol. I would definately question the need to have the weekly shots again, given that you are using them as a preventative. It seems like overkill really. I suppose you really have the final say being the owner so if you dont wish to have the full course of shots it is your right to say so. I personally dont think that would be seen to be unreasonable.
  15. For me I wanted a sable rough collie like Lassie. My first dog ever as a 24 year old (me not the dog) ,wandered onto my property after being dumped by her previous owner. She was a 9 year old Sable rough collie girl. I reluctantly notified the pound, advertised etc but no one ever claimed her or the dog that was dumped with her so she was all mine. :D
  16. Great video. If that doesnt convince people to adopt a greyhound I dont know what would. The dogs were so well behaved.
  17. We were given a 400 gram 6 week old kitten whose mother was dead and he was just as you described. We used a dog crate all set up inside so he could have some down time and so could we.I used to hiss at him like a mother cat if he was behaving badly. The hardest thing was getting the other members of my family to not play to roughly with him or wave their hands around like toys. They wondered why he would then go for their hands when they least expected it. We cheated and adopted from a shelter a kitten 2 weeks older than him a couple of weeks after we got him so he could learn kitten behaviours and I also of course had always intended having 2 cats. This helped a lot but he is 10 months old now and can still be a little feral but is the most loving lap cat, full of fun and adventure.
  18. Mokha (my pet shop dog) let us down on this one. I had to put down HD,OCD, food intolerances ,yeast infections and allergies. Molly (my shelter dog) is so far free from any health problems. Due to Mokha bad hips we had hers PennHipp scored for our own peace of mind when she was 2 and hers were spot on average for a lab. Way better than Mokhas.
  19. Before we got Molly from a shelter I had checked out Pet rescue and various shelter sites every day just looking for the right dog. I did go to meet a dog at Save a dog in Melbourne but she and I just did not click, I was so disappointed but knew there was so many dogs needing a home. I spotted Molly on petrescue and I knew she had to be mine, I was very persistant and we went for a meet and greet 2 days later and instantly I knew she was the one. We already had Mokha at home so wanted a girl, but there was the most adorable cross breed male in the pen with her and it was all I could do to drag myself away from him. If we didnt have Mokha I would have taken them both. I can see how hard it would be to go looking at the pound and not take them all home. My husband fell for another dog as well and this dog took quite a while to rehome and I felt awful every time I saw he was still up for adoption until finally some one fell for him. I hope both these dogs have a good life like Molly does. Molly is the most awesome dog ever. She is by no means perfect but she has the most wonderful temperament and is a delight every day.
  20. Happy Birthday Ricky, what a beautiful senior girl.
  21. I bought a couple of these from Pets at Home at Narre Warren vic although this store is called something else now.Pet Barn I think. It had a some sort of PVC like cover and they werent expensive. My only dislike was they seemed to make my dogs smelly in the summer time even though they were covered with cotton cellular blankets. Molly loved to chew on them though so have not bought one in a while.
  22. Molly has had two of these, exactly as you described. Vet said they were small hot spots that were healing.I googles ringworm in dogs and pictures showed hairless patches of skin as ringworm.
  23. Glenfern Bushlands on Glenfern Road (Upwey to Ferntree Gully) was excellent. But now it is on-lead because the hoon dog owners spoilt it for everyone by letting their dogs hunt wildlife. Some echidnas and wallabies suffered. So we all suffer. It was a great area for responsible off-lead bush tracks. I'm worried about Wrights going the same way. Technically it is only on-lead. But the tracks from Cockatoo down to Avonsleigh are great for an off-lead run if dogs have an acceptable re-call and controlled if other dogs being walked. If the irresponsible owners keep allowing their dogs to chase the kangaroos and small animals and monster other dogs we'll have that closed to us also. Yes, Wrights is not a designated off-leash area, according to the list supplied by council, but I have never seen any signage that states dogs must be on lead either. I guess this is why so many locals use it to run their dogs. So far, I have never had a problem with other dogs. Any people I come across will always do the right thing, by putting their dogs on lead when they see you approach. Once you are past each other, the leads come off again. There is a danger for wildlife (which I have seen plenty of), but as you say, all dogs off lead should have good recall to be walked in such an area. I hope we do not lose this because of the idiot few that may go there. Just looked up the website for Wrights park and it states on lead only and dogs only on vehicle tracks so I suppose you could technically get done for having your dog off lead, I was getting excited about this one but oh well.
