I have just about finished my first 20kg of BH cat food. All my cats and foster kittens love it. I have not had one turn their nose up at it like I have with other foods

This is what the report says:

The xrays showed mild subchondral sclerosis of the left coronoid and mild osteophytosis evident on the dorsum of the anconeal process.

Arthroscopic assessment confirmed a loss of articular cartilage of the coronoid region with moderate synovitis.

A subtotal coronoidectomy was performed to remove the abnormal joint surface and decompress the medial compartment of the elbow.

Is that anything like what mokha had? How did he go after surgery? They were worried Chester was getting it in the right elbow as well as he shifts weight between the two although only limps on the left. The xrays showed the right clear though so really hoping it stays good.

I tried to find the report from Mokhas surgery but all I could find were the very large bills. I am not sure of the technical terms for what Mokha had but he had 3 larges pieces of cartilidge that had broken off floating in the joint so they were removed and the surface was scraped or smoothed I think. His surgery was nearly 1 1/2 years ago and he is doing so well. He runs and plays, has cartrophen injections monthly and is on Joint guard and fish oil. I am so pleased we went ahead with the surgery as he would have been completely lame by now if we had not. I hope you have as positive an outcome as we did. We were extremely careful with him, enforcing the rest and took a long time to increase his exercise. It was hard with another young lab in the house who was and is an extremely active girl.

Wishing Chester a speedy and full recovery. Did the specialist tell you what sort of ED he had.

Mine go to bed about 9.30 to 10pm, just tell them its bedtime and they are happy to go to their beds in the other room. They start snoozing in the lounge room around 8 any way. Wake up is around 7am, I mostly dont use an alarm, they rarely let me down.

to be perfectly honest... i LOOOOOVEEE the doggy smell... (I know I'm weird)... my two gsd have this specific smell and I just adore it... it smells like love

this is in my opinion. whenever I get into my car to go to work and I can smell the dogs smell in their I take a big whiff because it - believe it or not - calms me and makes me feel happy.

Completely agree, I know just what you mean. I love the way my dogs smell, both different but it is them. I dont think there stinky unless their wet.

My lab Mokha has ED in the elbow, he was in pain all the time and only 6 months old. We opted for surgery and he is now 2 3/4 yrs old and runs and plays and is happy. Of course we are careful with him, I rarely let him run with dogs other than our own female lab. He had three large pieces of cartilage grinding away in his joint, I couldnt imagine leaving them there. My best advice would be to seek the opinion of an orthopedic specialist.

I use All Breeds in Lyndhurst, very happy with them.

Had to laugh this morning, I tried to feed my cat with the last of his old food and he turned his nose up and walked away. Put down the Black hawk instead and threw the remainder of his old food in the bin. Luckily there was only a tiny bit left. Black hawk was gone in a couple of minutes.

Picked up my next bag of Blackhawk, thanks Sheryl, and have converted my sister fussy miniature poodle on to it. Naughty little thing is very fussy and would not eat any dry food at all, well we offered her some black hawk tonight and she ate it all. We could not believe it. My cats, and 5 foster kittens were put on the cat/kitten version and I am very happy to say they are all happily gobbling it down. Even my rather fat lazy cat just climbed to the top of the cat tree to get to a bowl of it. I am a very happy customer.

Mokha has managed to pull me over when he got a fright from a "really scary cat" while out walking, result sprained ankle, couple of fractured ribs. He got a fright at training once, lead wrapped around my legs, over I went and knocked out face first in front of whole group. Molly on the other hand has jumped on my stomach for a cuddle while I was lying down, thought my insides were going to burst out but other than that the worse damage is a face covered in sneeze snot. My face, not hers. Gotta love those labs.

After Mokha had a horrible reaction to a spot on treatment I put both dogs on Sentinel and have never had a flea or a worm problem, and they have no problems digesting them. They actually think they are a treat.

Totally agree with previous comments regarding the diagnosis without xrays. Mokha was disagnosed at about 8 months with ED after being diagnosed with hip dysplasia at 6 months. Both problems being evident on the xrays and confirmed by the specialist. Surgery was done on his elbow and he has been much better than I could have hoped for in the 1 1/2 years since surgery. Crate rest and xrays are definitely the way to go.

Since Molly and Mokha arrived in my life I can honestly say I have never felt lonely. The 2 days I had them in boarding kennels recently nearly killed me. I couldnt wait to go and pick them up even though I knew they were being well looked after. Not to have Mokha give me my wake up woof in the morning was horrible.Lying on the couch in the evening without Molly curled up with me was not nearly as relaxing. Having my dogs just makes my life so much better in so many ways.

Mokha has had anal gland problems all his life. I have actually gotten used to the smell when they let go but an all time low was him leaking them out on the carpet last night in one milky looking oozy bloob that just sat there.

I have an identical plaster decoration in my family room.Mokha was trying to eat his way into my bedroom. Trouble is its been their 2 years. It kind of reminds me on a daily basis what its like to have a pup in the house.We have a matching one in the laundry too.

Mokha is 100% on Black Hawk now and I am really happy. I actually think the smaller kibble is slowing down his eating. On a really positive note his coat is so shiny. He has had no stomach problems and I am saving a fortune compared to his old food.

So glad its an all positive update. I know what you mean about Juno lying on her back because Mokha rarely lies on his back because of his hips. I am glad the nylabone is working. I also dip it in chicken stock Mokha loves that and not to many calories.

I hope everything continues to go well.

I have two vet practices I use and both have great reception/nurses. My dogs vets practice have the best staff, they all know my dogs and their issues and I could not ask for better service. I have never had a single problem with them in the 2 1/2 years I have been going there. They are worth every cent.

I use a different vets office for my cats, they dont like to travel so this one is local. Once again, fantastic helpful staff. They fitted me in last thing on Christmas eve, one vet was doing an op the other vet saw my foster kitten at 5 minutes notice and did not charge me. There is nothing like a friendly supportive helpful person on the other end of the phone when you are in panic with an ill pet.

Remember to thank your vet nurses and reception staff when they do a good job. I bet lots of people are less than polite during their day and they deserve our thanks for a job well done.

In my situation with Mokha this would have been a good thing to have. I tried to find out where he came from to let the person who bred him know of his joint problems but PP refused to give me any info and were not helpful at all. They simply did not respond to my phone messages and the manager was always out. At least I could have gone straight to the source of the problem.

While I will never buy another dog from a petstore maybe this would be a little step in the right direction.

Hi Sezz, Merry christmas to Juno. I hope things are going well. I was trying to think what other toys we used for Mokha but the Nylabone was the best along with his Kong. I froze things like carrots and beans in with some canned food or chicken stock, low salt one. That would keep him happy while watching Snow Dogs on video. Mokha did put on a little weight, about a kilo while confined and on exercise restriction but we worked that off swimming when he was allowed. Thats why I loved the nylabone, no calories. I would sometimes wipe a bit of peanut butter or honey on it just to make it more interesting. The more he chewed on it the rougher the surface on it was so it would take a while to get it out.

Well we are up to 50/50 mix with my two now. Taking it really slow because Mokha has only had a lamb based kibble once before that did not work out well. So far with the BH no problems. No gas,all good.

Hi Sezz, I hope Juno is going well. I know the better they feel the harder it is to stop them from wanting to jump around so unfortunately it is not going to get much easier too soon. In answer to your question we have Mokha having regular Zydax injections, he get fish oil and vit e and Jointguard. We are thinking of trying the Glyde under recommendation from our vet but so far have been really pleased with the results from Jointguard.

We were all ready to go ahead with the surgery you have had done so I had done a lot of research on it. I will be really interested how Juno goes as I sometimes wonder should we have gone ahead. If his elbow hadnt been so bad and the surgeon hadnt recommended that that was the priority we would have done his hips. I think its amazing what they can do though these days.

I hope your Juno is recovering well. I have Mokha who has HD in both hips and ED in his elbow. We decided against the TPO in the end under our specialist recommendation as Mokhas elbow was causing him far more problems and the window of opportunity to do the TPO was running out. His elbow surgery had to come first and it was definitely the right decision for us. He is actually doing quite well with his hips thankfully we keep his weight lean, he swims regularly and is on joint supplements and zydax injections.

He is now 2 1/2 years old, this all started when he was 6 months. As for crate rest I was lucky that Mokha likes to watch tv so could be amused by his favourite DVDs. We got him a Nylabone as I didnt want to give him to many raw bones to chew as he has trouble pooping them and this would have meant lots of toilet breaks. For the most part he was really good but I was so glad when he was allowed to start leash walks again.

We also had an 18 month old lab so the hard part was not letting them play together. I wish you the best for Juno and hope you get a good result.The appropriate rest is crucial to success so best of luck.
