  1. Hope you are able to get some answers and help him with it Pollywaffle ! thank you! Hopefully it is ageing!
  2. It doesn't matter what sort of s..t day I've had at work, when I pull up the drive way in my car, my two meet me as if I am at the very least, the Second Coming reincarnate. Lifts my spirits no end!
  3. I hate the insurance one with Matthew Hayden when he says in an almost sneering tone...'and you insure your pet'...as if it's a totally ridiculous thing to do. That gets me every time.
  4. Thanks everyone - as you say, Danny's Darling, he is the most super little chap - so full of life, so kind and loving too. I would hate to think that we have caused anything to upset him...but as you've all suggested, it might be health related, even though it seems to manifest itself in strange behaviour. I have also noticed that he is licking his feet more - which he never really did. I guess these are all questions I have to raise on Saturday with the vet. Hopefully, it's something very routine and can be resolved easily. He's too precious to be suffering.
  5. As it happens, he is scheduled for an annual check up on Saturday - so will do as you suggest..but in every other way, he's totally normal - hence my wondering if it was age related, or dare I say it, a mental issue?
  6. Our beautiful little boy, Basil (maltese x) suffers from big dog syndrome - thinks he's 150 metres tall and built like a truck - and fearless. But at the tender age of 9 he has all of a sudden, become totally terrified of our washing machine...when I put a load on he starts shaking and then runs, cowering to the other end of the house..where he sits until the load is done. I was just wondering if this is an age specific problem and whether any of your ageing dogs have displayed similar strange behaviour - I can't think that OH or I have caused this reaction, so am hoping it's age
  7. Basil and Polly...this dates me of course...Fawlty Towers!
  8. My colleague has just asked me if I'm alright..how can you ever begin to explain a dog's purpose if people don't feel that way. Thank goodness for DOLers, where we understand these sorts of things.
  9. that's terrible news..the poor little boy and you too...I am so sorry!
  10. It would have to be my current two, as they are great listeners.
  11. I can't think of any suitable words...but am thinking of you.
  12. I feel for you Cleveland. It is wrong that someone else' sheer disregard for the animals' welfare has become your responsibility. Unfortunately you seem a compassionate soul so what can you do but what you are doing. It is wrong on every level that you should have to shoulder responsibility for this.
  13. As a nod towards vegetarianism I have given up lamb..haven't eaten it for two years. Yet, every fortnight I go out and buy lamb chops for the two little uns as it's their favourite...go figure...
  14. these sorts of stories give you hope, don't they? You realise you're not isolated in your love of the four footed furries.
  15. A very sensible suggestion..they could relocate the kids to the backyard; hopefully somewhere where they will get little interaction with humans; no point starting something you can't continue. In the new bedroom, perhaps a lovely bone motif on the walls and gold rimmed cage and a few pairs of someone's shoes...
  16. I'd love to take them both, but I really don't have the room...
  17. Just passing on my best wishes to your beautiful girl
  18. she's adorable..so much life. Lovely!
  19. this happened to me once and my blood literally ran cold. You don't realise how frantic you can become ...I was literally like one of those screaming mothers you see on tv...crying out my dog's name....had to have a stiff drink afterwards!
  20. I think your ongoing efforts for Roo are inspirational Jellyblush...heartening to see someone make the commitment, not take the seemingly easier option...
  21. unadulterated empathy...my dogs are more sensitive to my moods than anyone in my life, including my husband.
  22. I hate to say this, but if he's an old dog, then somebody is doing something right in regard to his welfare. Some dogs are brought up society savy....they seem to know where the dangers are...perhaps leave best alone. Not what I would normally advocate - would usually go for intervention..but you've said yourself, he's cared for in a slightly indifferent way, so why change the status quo.
  23. My girl follows me into the toilet for a back scratch...don't ask, but not nice!
