  1. my thought too, sore higher up the leg, maybe the shoulder.
  2. very good. I am finally starting to dabble in layers.
  3. I used on a very timid and skittish dog just to help her cope with living in a home. I think it made a small difference. There was no way this dog could have gone to obedience or anything out of the home, she couldn't cope at all, so it may help your dog.
  4. don't stop at populated places, middle of nowhere, like TangerineDream says, is best
  5. Hi Charlie's Mum, no, the dogs won't know each other. I would have them sleep seperate. It is good for dogs to learn to be on there own. Plus, if they decide to start playing in the middle of the night, it might be quite nosiy! They can always sleep together later on. All my dogs are capable of being on their own. I think it is good for them.
  6. I usually set the alarm so I get up before the pup. I set it twice for the first few nights, then cut it back to the middle of the night only and stop totally by end of the second week. Last toilet trip around 10, then again at 6.30. Plus pups sleep in the crate in my bedroom and if they need to go out you can hear them. I rarely crated them during the day, just watched them like a hawk, didn't get a lot done but it's only house work
  7. I put coats on the greyhounds but never put a coat on the GSD's.
  8. I too second the gold beads. I had my GSD done many years ago when it was brand new in Aus. It worked brilliantly.
  9. So are you are registered breeder and does your girl have main registration papers? Is she a good specimen of the breed? What does her breeder have to say, do they think your bitch is breeding material?
  10. Congratulations. It's exciting isn't it? You need to read up on variable reinforcement, plenty of stuff on the net and I'm sure you get lots of links from people here.
  11. I'd never give something that treats everything. I prefer to use a monthly heartworm that does just heartworm, worm them 3 or 4 times a year. Haven't treated a dog for fleas for several years now so why give them chemicals they don't need?
  12. I couldn't find any that didn't require you give yearly vaccinations
  13. Greyhounds in PJ's and how Fern hates getting her feet wet!
  14. okay a little whacky here but do you have wire on top of the pens, has it been raining a lot and could the stains be rust spots? ie drips from the pen roof
  15. Oh Warley, so sorry to read this news. You must be devastated. My Sam will be there to welcome him and show Houndee how even slow greyhounds can catch the bunnies up there.
  16. Just saw this thread Trish as i don't often venture in here. So sad. Run free sweet boy.
  17. yep, I'd take her out at 9 and problem solvered! I have a mature male dog here who is house trained but he always needs to go out around 7 pm. He just has to at that time and he wee's like there is no tomorrow. I take him out again before bed but really if I didn't take him again he wouldn't care, he can easily hold on 12 hours or more overnight, but he needs his 7 pm wee break. He's nearly 8 now and has been like that since I got him at 18 months old.
  18. Back's still a problem. MRI next week. The trips to the track are working well. I shut the front gates, open up the car, dogs jump in and I do the same when I come home. They are only on lead for about 10 feet!
  19. I could walk them one at a time but I am a bit worried that even one, on an ordinary collar, may give a leap and tweak my back. Of course I could just take them to the slipping track and let them run, then go walking on my own. Why didn't I think of that 1st
  20. Umm, I do not consider the greyhound collars from black dog to be very good. Sorry. I have plenty of martingale collars here to choose from, they are what they are normally walked on. Just after a good, hopefully short term solution, to my problem, walking 2 large dogs who may get excited and tweak my back, making it worse.
  21. They are greyhounds. I have used a haltie on the male very successfully over the years but can't seem to find it at the moment. They don't pull non stop, they barely pull at all. It's more for when we get rushed by other dogs, usually little yappy ones. Just gives me a bit more control to get them past. BTW both my greys think all dogs were put on this earth to play with, they are not wanting to chase them.
  22. any one used them? I have hurt my back and it is taking some time to get right but in the mean time the dogs are missing out on walks. They are pretty good on an ordinary flat collar and lead but can get a little excited and pull on occasions. Normally it's not a problem but with a very tender back I can't take the risk.
  23. if your not confident that you can keep the dew claws short yourself over the life time of the dog best thing is to book him in and get them permamently removed by the vet.
  24. I had the same problem with my greyhound as a pup. She is now 16 months old and I "think" she is over it. This winter will tell. But she will at least go out on the grass now after it's rained. My verandah is carpeted, I must admit I wouldn't have been so stressed about it all if it had been pavers or concrete. I used to block off the entrance to the verandah and go out with her and just wait. I also put a coat on her and sometimes would take her out into the front yard where there was no carpet available for her to pee on. I didn't care if she peed under the carport.
