  1. Dog would be at least 6 years old so I wonder about health. But it was a full face bite not just a nip by looking at the marks on the little boys face. So sad for all involved.
  2. agree with the others, a new vet asap. I am so sorry this has happened to them both and you too as their friend. Please help your friend to report this. Personally I'd get someone to carry the dog to the car and then drive to the work place and see if the dog is ok there. Out via the back door if possible. My experience with trauma was the dogs didn't want to go near where the trauma happened. One was a new foster who had a terrible accident in my back yard. Took weeks before he would go freely in there. Had to be toileted etc out the front yard, then on lead to walk down the opposite side to where the accident happened, then off lead. The other was attacked by a dog while out for a run and we couldn't go near that spot for some months.
  3. I found Antinol really good. They are all pretty expensive. Maybe you could try a course of Cartrophen injections? An orthopedic surgeon did suggest 4Cyte gel and Glyde powder recently. I don't think they have done anything, I'm just using them up.
  4. that's a little bit different to anyone grabbing a poodle and crossing it with whatever other breed they can find, making up a "cute" name and selling it for $1000's, all without any health testing of the parents.

I have to say, with all the females dogs I have owned, that I never had a problem except with one girl from GAP ( Greyhound Adoption Program )who caused me to take my smaller crossbreed girl, to the vets 3 times. I couldn't commit to keeping them totally apart for the rest of their lives so the grey was returned with many tears. She was so perfect for me. But not for my dog. The Grey went on to live a lovely life as an only dog. I had a GSD girl who was less then thrilled with other girls too close to her which did improve when desexed but at home never a problem with the others. Just out and about. And never a problem in competitions.
  6. and nothing wrong with a good ole heinz 57, just stop with the stupid names
  7. what a shame they no longer have the Racing Greyhounds sweepstakes. They were well supported and hotly contested.
  8. Because the hallmark of the breed is their colour. Again you would have to ask a breeder who knows the history of the breed. Nothing wrong with pet only.
  9. I see a fair few BC who don't have a full collar gaining their Championship titles. As to the Newfoundland you'd have to ask breeders who know their history
  10. Depending on the breed yeah a lot of breeders of smaller dogs prefer to keep them a little bit longer. If they are ANKC breeders then the papers are supposed to go with the pup at time of sale. However I did breach that requirement with my last litter by requesting that the male pup stayed in my name until 12 months of age in case I wanted to collect semen form him, then he was to be signed over in full. All spelled out in the contract and fully explained. As soon as I decided I would not be doing this papers were sent. Owner was a pet person, not a breeder. So up to you if you are happy to accept the contract. Make sure you change the microchip over to your name. And if it's a large breed wait before desexing.
  11. I'd say ask your breeder who you got the pup from. Unless you bred it then maybe reach out to other lab breeders. There are a couple of lab breeders here, hopefully they will be along and can help.

I have a nice little app called easy thumbnails which I love, very easy to use. I was watching Ian Dunbar back in the 90's so haven't seen the son in action. Have you looked at Daily Dog Star? Lots of free stuff on there, last time I looked. Got to sift through it but some interesting articles. You've said you can have trouble with your mobility, if your yard is suitable the Two Toy Game might be worth looking up. You stand in the middle, the dog does all the work .

I had to laugh at your post, it sounds so like a typical new puppy scenario. It's such hard work. Have you second guessed yourself yet and wondered what the hell you did? I think we need photo's of your girls.

Absolutely. Sophi has some "strong" breeding behind her and they were all allowed to be little ferals. Sounds like you are on top of it though.

as one of 14 puppies I'm not at all surprised Sophi was over the top with Lulu Has she been to the vet yet for a check up? I would guess she might have a pretty heavy worm burden. Puppies are exhausting that's for sure.
  16. ring the vet back and ask if the dose of gabapentin can be increased if he's not already on the max
  17. so sorry your first pup got meningitis but try not to let that influence you too much. It will be hard but you were very unlucky. while little enough I carried a pup to the car etc. Once too heavy they were on lead. Though as my car was parked in a fully fenced front yard I just let them loose there. I think a good puppy school would be great. They do get to see other dogs and you get to hear other owners. If the private has other age appropriate pups then that would be great as well. My view is, all doggy schools, are there to help you train your dog and it is not a free for all. Ideally I have always wanted my dogs to ignore other dogs when we are out and about and not to see them as a play toy and start ignoring you. Can we get a photo of your new family member?
  18. As much as I am all for our strict quarantine it is a pity the dog couldn't have come straight into our quarantine facilities. After all Bella wouldn't have met many dogs while lost at sea. Not sure where she has been since being rescued though.
  19. I would be getting a vet consultation. It's most likely nothing but if you are new to dogs best to get things checked.
  20. except for any testing done on bloods etc the basic autopsy report would already be available. When Opal died I got a written report the next day. I opted not to send out tissue, bloods.
  21. That's a bummer, they got you over a barrel.
  22. I have no idea where you are buying your stilboestrol but it's cheap as chips from my vet.
  23. I would have said the dog was skinny because he was a 14 month old working breed and by the owners account very active.
