  1. She was Y22? She looks gorgeous. Does she have a name yet? Is she up for adoption?

Oopps forgot to put her name her carer alternates between Daisy May or Maggie May and she answers to both. She is up for adoption just need to put her on PR and then our website with the other 4 newby's that have come in in the last week.

  2. I wonder if next time she showed up you just had cash ready (however much you were willing/able to spend) and offered to buy the dog outright whether she would sell. Some people will go on and on about how something is worth $xxxx but suddenly if you turn up with cash in hand and are serous about buying, they will sell.

However, I would seriously want some sort of bill of sale or document indicating the dog was legally yours if you did end up buying it. Even if by chance she gives it to you. I could see this type of person being one who then turns around and accuses you of 'stealing' her dog and then absconding with both it and the money.

Poor dog and what an unfortunate situation for you. It would be hard not to enable her neglectful behaviour when there's a hungry dog in your yard.

I would write something yourself and get her to sign, don't rely on her doing that, be ready with it next time she comes back, I would be inclined to give her $200 as $100 doesn't really buy much these days.

Who owns the house next door? bit odd if it is empty and she keeps coming back.

    Good luck.

  3. Hi all

Is there anyone in the Springwood area who can do a home check for me the people are coming to Canberra next Tuesday so can be done on the weekend, I know Jill lives in Springwood but have left her a message but haven't heard back which is fine as I know how busy she is, hence my request on here to see if anyone else can do it.

    Thanks

  4. I have received this email from the mother of her 42 year old disabled son who is looking for a companion dog, is there any one in rescue who may have a dog in their care that would be a good match for this man.

Stuart, my 42 year old disabled son's Pets As Therapy dog died a number of years ago and I've been seeking another small dog for quite some time. We do not have another dog, however each Tuesday my son and his carer walk the carer's dog around Lake Gininderra for an hour or more. Stuart's new pet would need to be happy sitting on his knee and accepting lots of cuddles. Be happy riding in our campervan and going away weekends and enjoying running around with our club member's dogs.

    Thanks

  5. I remember when I was working in the Civic library here in Canberra which was in the city and Margaret came in to return some books and they were all over due and I had to fine her and she gladly paid the fine, she was so nice and had a chat and then left.

  6. And dont be surprised when rescue is stuck with more laws and regs either. You make it hard for everyone.

Are you talking about "ALL" Rescue groups or just the dodgy ones that are being mentioned in this thread??

All rescue groups will pay for the dodgy ones if more laws and regs are introduced to try to cover the dodgy ones.

    Thanks just wanted to clarify.

  7. I heard on the interview the mum say they would take a cat "like Tiffany", not necessarily that exact cat. That was on The Project.

I'm SURE I heard that....but haven't seen anyone else refer to that statement. It was over the halfway mark of the interview.

I saw that on the Project as well and yes they will probably get the kid another Rag doll that necessiarly their sons.

  8. I've been taught that all caps is both SHOUTING and hard to read. I personally find it rude or ignorant (if you knew better you wouldn't do it) and hard to read.

Really old computer systems - only had upper case. But I can't see that excuse holding up these days.

It's good in selected spots for emphasis but not for whole blocks of text...

I'd rewrite like this - I'd put the email instruction at the beginning of a line. And the last thing on the bit of blurb - cos sometimes that's all they remember. I have a habit of tuning out headers... they're just labels not relevant info, right? Until someone puts the important stuff in the header and then I'm stuffed.

If you would like to know more about Angus

    EMAIL ME, email is good.

    please include

    * a description of a day at your place

    * how long Angus would be on his own each day

    * how active you are - how often do you go for walks or runs

    * how many in your home including kids - how old the kids are

    * other pets you have

    * anything else that helps me decide if Angus is a good fit for your family.

    * any questions you have about Angus

and repeating - please * email * me.

I guess it's exasperating and I am hardly the go to person for creative writing... But I have been writing instructions for morons (computers and their users) for years - and I have a good understanding of what stuff just doesn't get noticed.

The best way is to pay attention to what enquiries you get - and tweak your blurb accordingly. Try different blurbs with different dogs and see what phrasing gets the best results for you.

I have heard of people putting deliberate spelling mistakes into their advertising boards - because people will come into their shop - just to point that out and maybe they will buy something too. And if you say - thank you so much for pointing that out - they feel a bit "special" and even more inclined to return to your shop. Which is good if you don't mind Spelling Fanatics for customers...

As I said I have rehomed over 1000 dogs in 14 years and was taught that it is "emphasis’s" what you want noticed.

This post was not about criticising carers about the wording they use in their dog blurbs it is about time wasters, I am one for constructive comments but take exception when told I am wrong when I was taught one way and others were taught another, I have never had people tell me I am shouting and as I said I was taught that it is not.

I will ignore the bit about being a "moron and should know better" I "should know better" than post on some DOL threads as people sometimes can't help them selves to.

  9. Keetamouse

is your blurb really like that - all caps and the bit about emailing buried in the text?

IF YOU FIT THE CRITERIA FOR ANGUS PLEASE EMAIL ME FIRST WITH A RUN DOWN OF YOUR LIFESTYLE, ACTIVITY LEVELS, HOW MANY IN THE FAMILY, THE KIDS AGES ETC, YOUR OTHER DOG ANYTHING THAT GIVES ME AN IDEA OF THE TYPE OF LIFE I CAN EXPECT FOR ANGUS FOR THE NEXT 10 -12 YEARS. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ANOTHER DOG AND ANGUS WOULD BE ON HIS OWN MOST OF THE DAY THEN YOUR ENQUIRY WILL NOT PROCEED.

the first thing to put is the most important thing that I want to happen - and it has to be short.

details the why or twenty questions... like I've been learning from trying to get politicians to do stuff for me (or anybody really)...

People love surveys tho. I wonder if this could be incorporated somehow.

some questions to find you the best dog...

    1. email first with details about you and your life

    2. how often do you go for walks

    3. how many live at your home where the dog will be

    4. how many kids - how old is each one

    5. do you have other dogs or pets?

    6. how many hours per day will Angus be on his own? (don't suggest the "right answer")

    7. do you care if all your sox have new holes in them?

    8. did I say email - please email. I love emails.

    9. I might answer the phone between 3pm and 4pm on weekdays. I will not answer it during breakfast, work, dinner or sleep time.

    10. owning a dog requires patience - how patient are you? (you will be tested, daily).

Sorry not sure what is wrong with what I have written, "email me" is in the first line, not buried in the text, caps is to "emphasise" so it stands out, todays generation see caps as "shouting" I don't.

CPR don't have a list of questions as I find what I do ask for gives me an idea of whether I go to the next level and that is I phone them and then go from there.

I have had a few people lately that have filled in another rescue groups questionnaire which is on average 3-4 pages long and I don't have time to read it when a lot of it does not apply to what I need to know.

I feel when you have a list of questions they answer with a "yes" or "no" they don't expand on this, by asking people to write their little blurb is easier for me and after rehoming nearly 1000 dogs in 14 years I must be doing something right.
