  1. It's the June long weekend, Blakbelgian, same day as the Spitz show.
  2. Nope, they don't. I used to work upstairs from a pet shop (which has closed, yay!) and we'd hear the puppies crying when we were there late at night over Christmas doing catalogue setup.
  3. Unfortunately Sibes are really common in pet shops because they're pretty and lots of people want them thanks to movies where they're featured. It really annoys me because they do need a LOT of work in terms of training and they can be escape artists and they love to run (my girl has a pretty good recall but if she gets out, she gives me the finger and is not coming back until she wants to) and the people who sell them at pet shops make them out to be fantastic pets that require little training. That's why so many of them end up in pounds.
  4. Akira is really bad about trying to steal banana peels if we come across them on a walk. Both girls line up at the counter for carrot while I'm cutting some up for dinner.
  5. Akira is a horrible bench surfer - we have mostly fixed the issue by never leaving food on the bench! Every now and then she outsmarts us, but it's not common these days. Halo would like to be a bench surfer, but she has never yet succeeded. I don't think she's sneaky enough to do it.
  6. I don't know, Gretel, the black ones can get just as dirty!
  7. Does anyone know what training method Munno Para uses? Do they allow food as a reward? I'm having trouble getting in contact with them, will ring DogsSA today and see if the phone number I have is correct.
  8. I have a Finnish Lapphund and I use OMG spray by Plush Puppy every show to give her a bit more volume. Unfortunately, over the break my spray has leaked in my grooming box and I have only a teensy bit left. What are your opinions on what the best products for volumising is, preferably something I can put in her coat when grooming before we go in the ring. She's just done her junior drop and is super naked so she needs all the help she can get!
  9. Halo gets Haley Haley-Hoo H-dog H-puppy Bubba Hales The Little One Akira gets Kez Kezza Pupness K-dog Kira They answer to all of them, probably because we direct it at them LOL
  10. We loved the looks of the Husky, so did research to find out if they'd be a breed that would be suitable for us. We wanted an active dog that would be good with kids and was independent but liked being part of the family, and the Husky ticked all those boxes. So we got Akira, who was raised with young kids and generally likes kids better than adults! When it came time to get a second dog, we wanted something very similar to Akira but not QUITE as independent and stubborn! After being on here, we had found the Finnish Lapphund, and I think they're definitely the perfect fit for our family. We love the Husky personality, and I think we'll always have a Husky, but Lappies are definitely a better fit for us.
  11. This. :) My older girl didn't like to toilet when we weren't home as well, when we got the younger girl we taught them both the same toilet command and she's now heaps better. She can still be a bit contrary about doing a poo (though going away for four days made her realise that she can't hold that long!), and will do it away from home but only if she's not on lead.
  12. Congratulations! :D Congrats! My pup arrived on Australia Day last year - can't believe it's only been a year, feels like it was a lifetime ago!
  13. Gorgeous shots! I grew up with dogs - there are stacks of photos of me being babysat by our Vizsla - and I love it that our kids will grow up with dogs too and know exactly how to act around them.
  14. I know that Akira would wake us up if someone came into our house, but she'd have to be already awake because she's a massive sloth! LOL. Any stranger that comes to our house is barked at normally due to her fear of strangers, and if Akira starts barking and growling, Halo normally joins in. Halo would go and try to get cuddles though rather than look frightening.
  15. I have just spoken to our council about cat laws. They cannot do anything and will not do anything about cats coming into others yards. I have permission from them to take the cat that keeps coming into our yard to the pound if I catch it. They said if I don't know who the owner is (and I don't, the cat has no collar) then there's no issues with it. But if we get a nuisance dog complaint from the dogs barking at the cat, we can't even use it as an excuse. Thank goodness our neighbours are understanding!
  16. I only put it in here because it was considered abuse. However you can double post it if you want.
  17. Yeah it sucks, For mine (custom "MADCAT" plates) its $200 yearly... Which sucks when you get Rego, drivers licence AND custom plate renewal all at once haha Wish "custom" plates were just a once off fee like the other states Yeah, OH pays $200/year for his OZSTIG plates.
  18. I am at the point where I am going to get a cat trap from the council because I am completely over the cat that uses my yard as its toilet and stirs up my dogs. It is tame, it comes up to me for pats and I shoo it off all the time. It sits in my front yard teasing my dogs that are inside the house while they go absolutely troppo - OH has joked that he is going to let Akira out and see what happens then (which I won't let him do because she'll kill it). And it has no collar, no nothing, so I have no clue who owns the damn thing.
  19. A Queensland couple have been charged and fined $7000 after their dog was left with an untreated lesion on its head for several months. Daniel and Kym Rach, from Mt Gravatt in Brisbane's south, appeared in Holland Park Magistrates Court on Friday charged with breaching their duty of care under the state's Animal Care and Protection Act (2001), the Courier Mail reported. The dog, a tan German shepherd called Cub, had been suffering with the lesion for several months when it was seized and then euthanased by the RSPCA. “It was a particularly abhorrent case,” RSPCA Queensland inspector Annabel Buchanan said. "Everybody at the RSPCA was really shocked at the condition of the dog.” Magistrate Colin Strofield, who did not record a conviction for the couple, said their failure to have the dog treated was "inexplicable and reprehensible" but took into account their early guilty plea. Lawyer Angelo Venardos said the couple were remorseful and had not taken the dog to a vet because of Mr Rach's phobia of doctors. The couple has been banned from owning a dog for three years. 20. Considering the Christmas break, I wouldn't be worrying yet. Hopefully you should have them by the start of Feb.
  21. Akira hates OH's best friend. No clue why, she just decided she hates him. I think it's because he's tall and quite big, and she's always been wary of men. He's a dog person (has even come out to shows with us), and has never treated her badly in any way. Halo on the other hand loves him and it's been funny to watch Akira turn the corner with him a bit because she thinks she might be missing out on something that Halo's getting!
  22. Is pulling on the lead frowned upon? Akira has good days and bad days when it comes to that still!
  23. They require a doctor's certificate to say that I'm fine to train, and my GP won't give it to me, so will see what the Ob says.
  24. I'm pregnant so am not allowed to handle her at training based on club rules, so nothing with Akira, she's as naughty as usual though. ;)
