  1. Laminated piece of paper in the kit with emergency contacts for both you and the dog. A bit grim, but if something happened to you, and dog was found with you and the kit, at least there are alternative contacts who live in another area. (what good is it contacting just you or OH if something happened to you both). Or, if your contact details (ie. your phone and email) were not accessible to you, but there was an alternative contact in another area, then that might be helpful.
  2. No - if you can, only some parts of it are dog friendly. IF you're taking a tent, dog can sleep in tent with you. My dog would either sleep in the same compartment or a vestibule depending on the make of tent.
  3. Dear dog owners, Be responsible for your dog and hopefully this will remain as a good thing for all dog owners! Dogs on leashes allowed in Weston Park, Lennox Gardens and Black Mountain Peninsula DateJanuary 11, 2016 - 12:15AM 20 reading now Read later TAMS City Services director Fleur Flanery Maggie the dalmatian and Lucy the kelpie at Weston Park. Photo: Jeffrey Chan For the first time from Monday, dogs can go for a walk through Weston Park, Lennox Gardens and Black Mountain Peninsula – on a leash, of course. And in another ACT first, a trial of a timeshare arrangement in a Griffith park means dogs will be allowed off-leash for part of the day but must be on-leash for the remainder. The change could be extended to other parks in Canberra if the trial is successful. Changes to the ACT's dog exercise area maps come into effect from Monday. It is the first time in 11 years that policies governing how and where dogs can be exercised in Canberra have been reviewed. The community consultation leading up to the changes was among the most popular ever conducted, with more than 1700 submissions received. Among the most significant changes is that some of the most picturesque parts of Canberra – Lennox Gardens, Weston Park and Black Mountain – are now classed as dog on-leash areas after previously banning dogs. It means all major parks in Canberra are now dog on-leash areas. Dogs remain banned at playgrounds and barbecue areas across Canberra. William Slim Drive pedestrian parkland has been changed from an on-leash to an off-leash area. Fleur Flanery, director of City Services, in Territory and Municipal Services, said some people were opposed to letting dogs into the parks, including parents who had children scared of the animals. But she believed the dogs being on a leash and not allowed near playgrounds and barbecues provided extra security. "It is a significant change but when you look at people recreating, they do want to go to places with their dogs. They want to walk with them or have a picnic and people's time is limited," she said. "I think having these really big parks where the dogs were prohibited was probably a little bit restrictive." Territory and Municipal Services Minister Shane Rattenbury said the changes also meant that dogs had to be on a leash on all paths and cycleways to help improve the safety of walkers and cyclists. Dogs could be off-leash at sporting grounds, including Hall Showground, when formal sports were not being played or a major event was not occurring. "Dogs need to be kept under control so they do not interfere with other people's enjoyment of public spaces," Mr Rattenbury said. "As a general rule, if people are ever in doubt they should keep their dog on a leash. Signage will be erected at locations across Canberra, such as ovals, to help educate the community about how the areas can be used." The timeshare trial will be at Blaxland Park in Griffith. Dogs can be off-leash from 6pm to 7am and on-leash for the rest of the time. Ms Flanery said the trial would be closely monitored by government rangers and could be extended to other parks such as Haig Park in Turner if it proved successful. "Having those timeshare arrangements is something that's used in a lot of other jurisdictions, particularly on the South Coast," she said. Among the things rangers would be looking at was if dog owners were adhering to the time restrictions and picking up after their dogs. The government would continue to assess other recreation areas identified in the consultation to see if further changes should be made. "We haven't updated the maps now in 11 years and it's just very apparent to me they need to be something that are very dynamic, and as new areas are developed we need to get on to it early in the planning stage rather than wait another 10 or 11 years between changes," Ms Flanery said. People can comment on the changes to dog exercise area maps via www.timetotalk.act.gov.au until March 31. 4. Once you get rid of the stink, let it dry completely and apply a paver/concrete sealant. Same with decks, reapply a seal. The porous surfaces suck in the pee and the pee enzymes, that's why the smell comes back up in the summer etc - if you seal the porous surfaces, it doesn't "sink" in. An enzyme based detergent (ie. biozet) helps to break down the smelly enzymes too.
  5. About 10 years ago, I remember accidentally locking Panto in - someone else shut a door on the other side they weren't meant to whilst we were unloading, and Panto herself stood up on the lock button and locked herself in. It was a 30+ day, and even though we were parked in the shade and it was only mid morning, the nearest NRMA literally dropped what they were doing on their current job and came in a hurry. I swear it was under 10mins, though it felt like ages - We waited the whole time and kept an eye on her, ready to smash the window if need be. Thankfully everything was fine and she was happy to give licks and cuddles to the NRMA guy. They were awesome.
  6. I don't even have a dog in my household and I WANT ALL THE BEDS!!
  7. it's a whole new world out there... I love camping and camping gear and these weren't really out when my girl was around. I had to go looking..! What was the one you liked the look of but didn't ship to Australia?? http://woofwoofmama.com/2012/10/10/folding-travel-dog-bed-groupon-pet-deal/ https://www.ozpetshop.com.au/products/4061/clearance-items/bondi-indoor-outdoor-water-resistant-dog-bed.html https://www.ozpetshop.com.au/products/4217/dog-beds-bedding/afp-outdoor-dog-camping-bed.html http://www.tuffies.co.uk/dog-beds-diary.asp
  8. When I fostered, and may yet again, I knew it wasn't my dog, it was just that somebody, (maybe the foster dog themself) hadn't told me who owned them yet. I told myself, it's not my dog. It's someone else's.
  9. Just noticed you're in NT! How on earth did you hear about this, I hadn't even heard of it and I'm on the east coast.
  10. Just saw this, so sorry you went through this ordeal gb and glad that Anna is back home with you
  11. I relate to much to these two posts... I lost my Panto 4 months ago yet still feel like she hasn't gone, like she is just with her grandparents on an extended holiday. Smile when you think of her, cry when you need to, talk about her as much as you want to and let the memories of her wags warm your heart. It blooming sucks and I cry with you and send you huge hugs at this time.
  12. I'm so fragile today that I wasn't going to look at this, but your post urged me to read it. Sending hugs and all the best for Mr Mac. This is exactly how we were able to say goodbye to Panto, except of course, the running and the park due to her disability. She was surrounded by so much love. I'm a bawling mess now but I'm glad I looked at it. eta: acutally, the day before, we took in a final sunset at the headlands on a picnic rug. It was gorgeous and bittersweet.
  13. I felt there was some sort of familiarity there... now it makes sense. Yes - it does sound like she is keeping him now. Lucky boy. Poor woman, and what a situation to be in!

Photo: Supplied Woman reunited with border collie Archie after he escaped Qantas and went on run for two days (via Ikea) By John Thistleton <br class="break">Sept. 28, 2015, 11:40 a.m.<br class="break"> It was a wild two days, which included a visit to a horse stud, a golf course, and even the new Ikea store, but both Archie and owner Rachel are relieved it's over. Border collie Archie is back home to stay in Launceston, Tasmania, much to the relief of owner Rachel Spillane, rangers, police, farmers, Qantas, pet transporters, construction workers, golfers, airport staff, a vet and Canberra's dog community. After flying from Tasmania via Sydney Archie busted out of the Qantas freight terminal at Canberra Airport on Tuesday. On the run overnight and all of Wednesday he was caught in a barbed wire fence near the new Majura Parkway on Thursday morning. Archie had stopped traffic on Pialligo Avenue, visited the new IKEA store twice, was spotted on Fairbairn golf course, befriended a dog at "Springfield" horse stud and starred on "Dogs on the Run" Facebook page, run by a boutique dog-walking service. Owner Rachel Spillane had up to 14 border collies at Launceston until she separated from her husband and started to re-home them, including Archie, a two-year-old red sable collie given to her when he was 14-weeks-old and shaken with anxiety issues. Travelling with Halo, a female blue merle border collie, the dogs were bound for Yass to a couple who had agreed to re-home them. On Wednesday night Qantas and Jetpets Animal Transport flew Ms Spillane to Canberra to join the hunt for her terrified dog. "They realised it was going to be pretty much impossible to catch him without me," she said. "I guess they felt partially responsible, but I have no desire to lay blame on anyone or anything, I'm just so relieved everyone pulled together," Ms Spillane said. "The Canberra community were just amazing. We had offers left, right and centre helping." Dogs on the Run partner Carolyn Kidd's Facebook post received 300 likes, dozens of comments and shares. "Many people got involved, rangers, the Australian Federal Police and a bunch of dog lovers who heard about the drama through Canberra Lost Pet Database," Ms Kidd said. A Canberra Airport spokeswoman says Archie was outside of the airfield, nevertheless the airport's community Facebook site spread word of sightings. At "Springfield" horse stud on Majura Road Archie befriended Teddy, a chocolate border/labrador collie owned by Paul Keir's daughter. "He was too timid, too frightened to catch," Mr Keir said later. "We let him go, we didn't put any pressure on him," he said. Mr Keir spread the word throughout Majura valley farms. A couple travelling toward Canberra spotted Archie and rang Ms Spillane. "Jetpets franchise had three vehicles and three guys in hot pursuit, someone had eyes fixed on him. He kept running. Even when I called him he was too scared to stop," Ms Spillane said. "They were jumping out of cars and trying to get to him, jumping through barbed-wire fences, and all those sorts of things." About 10.45am on Thursday a barbed-wire fence ended Archie's escapade. "He ended up hanging upside down from his leg," Ms Spillane said. "When we tried to get him out of the fence he did not realise it was me and actually bit me. He literally put holes in my hand and all of a sudden his eyes changed and his tail started wagging and he realised it was me. He had a mouth full of blood because he had bitten his own tongue and he was absolutely petrified, beside himself." To hold him in her arms was overwhelming. Ms Spillane says she can never watch movies like Lassie Come Home … "they just make me cry too much".
  15. That's simply adorable that jumper. I was hoping for a crows win too, as a swans supporter would have loved a GF with crows v swans! I was at the game when we recently played them, amidst the Goodsey travesty, and still crows fans were one of the loveliest - quickly replaced my previous second team for this year I think. What a nice night being able to spend with Mac, I love that you appreciate this so much in the now, not in hindsight
  16. How is this going dogmad, I can reach out to a couple dog loving contacts in Brisbane if this isn't done yet?

    Vale Loki

Oh Ruffs! I am so sorry for your loss. I've only just seen this too.
  20. Our hearts are breaking but I'm sure it's not always the case, an elderly owner may have passed on or been passed into nursing care and grieving the loss of their pet. For those that do just pass them on for being on, I stand with you - shame on them! I can't look too long in this thread, I miss my old girl way too much
  21. Oh T! Many hugs, thinking of you and your pack.
