  1. Thanks everyone.. ITs a trying time, but we have our health, each other and an amazing dog called Maui. So we are pretty lucky still. Cute story from today, told to me by my husband about 10 minutes ago. He told me he was on his walk this morning and he stopped, looked at Maui (who was off lead, in the park) and asked him if he could pick him up... What did Maui do?? He stopped, sat and waited for hubs to pick him up He gave him lots of cuddles and then they continued on their way... !! Just an amazing bond between them... We are very very lucky to have him, it was fate that bought this puppy to us. lillipop - I am so sorry abour your Minnie..
  2. How adorable :D We have a corgi next door that my Maui loves to play with!
  3. We are having a rough time at the moment, having to cancle an expo and liquidate our company.... My husband has been feeling very emotional and all over the place.. Our little 5 month old JRT Maui has not left his side. (I work full time) Hubby has told me that whenever he sits at his desk (home office) Maui sits on or near his feet, usually with one paw on his foot. Maui is constantly making him laugh right at the moments hubs needs to laugh. He really has developed such a close bond with this puppy, it is the most adorable thing to watch. I cant beleive at 5 months old Maui has so much intuition and just knows how to make his dad feel better.. We are so very lucky to have him.
  4. As another JRT owner I am offended.... We do have him offlead sometimes, there is a park/spilway near us (In Vic) that is designated off lead during certain times of the day (not when school start/finish hours are!)... He has a few "friends" now that he first met on leash (both on leash) that when we see them now he is offleash and so are they, they ahve a lovely time playing together. But they were introduced on lead.... If we see children or people on those scooter things, then he is immediatly put back on the leash until they are out of sight (or until they finish playing with him, the attention seeker!)....
  5. Sending positive thoughts to poor Zoey!!!
  6. Being completely objective here myself... (And that he is my very first puppy) I must say that Jack Russell puppies are just the cutest Almost 5 months old...
  7. Thats a good idea! We will do the photo again when Maui is a little bigger too
  8. What an absolutly adorable little darling!@!!!!!!!
  9. A great weekend camping was had by ALL!... Poor Maui was so tired when we got home yesterday afternoon he slept pretty much right through to 5:30 this morning We didnt end up tethering him once, not on the lead. He stayed off leash the entire time. (Well, except when I had to go to the loo and he wanted to come too, then he went on lead with my mum. Oh and when our friends young girl took him for a walk around the park!) He made lots of new friends, including my mates two greyhounds, who Maui just loved playing with, although the greyhounds just enjoyed sleeping and letting him run over them... At nighttime we came up with a brilliant idea, we got two glowsticks and put them around his neck as a nother collar. Could see where he was at all time Not that he moved far, when the sun went down he usually jumped on my lap and curled into a ball or he spread out near the fireplace and snoozed. He was a little car sick on the way home, but managed to hold it until I opened the window and he was sick out of the window... (thankfully it was in stopped traffic). He ate too much, we had to politly tell people to stop feeding him! He is NOt going to like going back to puppy food from now on... It was a fabulous weekend and I cant wait to show you allt he photos once I upload them
  10. Ok, lots of towells will be packed... It is a coastal area so I dont think there will be an probs with ticks. Maui has done hour long trips before (to my parents place). the trip we are planning is 3 hours drive, with one possibly two stops to allow him to have a wee/poop break He tends to just sleep in the car anyway.
  11. Ah yes, the poo bags! Thankfully I bought a few more rolls the other day. We will have a few tarps with us, plus a HUGe one that my parents will be setting up (that we all sit under, seriously its like 20 meters long!).
  12. Mrs Rusty Bucket : When we are at the beach he will be on the lead. the spike will be mainly for when we sit around the oval watching the locals play cricket (unless he is on leash).. I have had a google searcxh, looks like the area we are going isnt known for ticks at all. cmkelpie : Thanks for that info Will have a look!
  13. I am sure you will have a great time! If you are regular campers around water it may be worth investing in a lifejacket at some point (once Maui moves out of the sand and into the water). Tilly comes kayaking with us when we go camping, in calm water and with a lifejacket on, and she thinks it is the best thing ever Silly question time, where would one go about getting a life jacket for a JRT???
  14. There is a river along the beach that leads to the ocean, Maui loves playing in the sand so I think he will have a ball. He will be sleeping inside the van with us (We have a long wheel van which we have a matteress in the back, and an annex that attached to the side on his bed (but I am SURE he will crawl up and sleep under the sleeping bags with us. )
  15. Thanks for that!! I had that list down thankfully, except the nearest vet! I will google that now and check it out.. I do have a camping first aid kit that goes with us anyway. Ill be grabbing a couple of bones tomorow from the market for him!! Im actually pretty excited about it, hubby and I love camping and a few of our friends go camping all the itme with their dogs too, so will be good to go with them now
  16. Poodle : I wouldnt want to board him or leave him home alone (I hate leavign him home alone for a few hours!).. He wont be aunatended during the whole camping trip, trust me He will most likely be with me the whole time. Occasionally going off with a friends daughter to play frisbee or something... I would never leave him alone and tethered, I am not that stupid, its just asking for trouble!!! The teather is mainly for when its a bit darker if we need it, but he will be on the lead 99.99% of the time anyway...
  17. It was either take him with us or leave him home alone for 4 days... So yeah. We go camping loads so this is a good chance for him to learn. (he has to learn at some point).. We have bought a tether that screws into the ground that is really secure. Other people & dogs? Its a fairly remote place, at most there has only been maybe 20-30 other people camping (apart from our group of 20)... Have only ever seen 2 other dogs there too, one was the owners... Everyone in our group knows Maui is coming with us..
  18. Afternoon all We are going camping this weekend and taking our pup with us. He has had all his shots etc and we spoke to the vet to make sure he can come to that area without needing anythign additional... (He is 4 months, 1 week old) Has anyone got any tips or hints for taking dogs/puppies camping?? Im looking forward to it actually, Maui is goign to have a great time running around the oval and playing on the beach.
  19. This is something I was talking about with my husband this weekend. The days before we bought Maui home, I had a clear idea of how/what/when/why about puppy ownership, things that I would do, things that I wouldnt do. From that very first day we bought him home, I had pretty much thrown that list out of the window. I never know one small little pup could change a person so much. I have fallen totally and utterly in love with the rascal and would dare anyone to try hurt him when I am around...... I always said NO DOGS ON THE BED... But guess who comes up for a snuggle when the alarm goes off each and every morning? (who also crawls UNDEr the doona and rests his head on my foot)... I always said NO LICKING ME... But I let Maui lick me, he has licked my nose many times (puppy kisses, god love em)... I always said NO DOGS INSIDE.... Yes Maui is in with us most of the time, only going out to eat, toilet and play with his toys (or sunbake).. I share my food with him, he loves the ice from my drinks. (oh um, yeah he once snuck a drink of jamieson & coke, he was too quick!) My husband works from home and he now has someone to talk to throughout the day, and to play with and de-stress with... We have only had him since December 17 and he has changed our lives for the better. I could go on, but I wont So how has owning a dog changed you???
  20. That is way too long a walk for a 4mth old pup hmm.. Ok I really do have my distances wrong.. I just measured on google maps, the walk we take him on is 1km each way, through an oval and a spillway.. (Where on earth did I get 4-5 from????) Most of that is offlead (except for the road parts, where he is on lead) so he can wander, stop drop and roll as much as he wants. He loves his walks!
  21. My 4 month old JRT goes for a walk every day, I think its around 4-5 kms. Most of it he is offlead (big oval/parkway) and can rest when he wants to (which he does)... If we dont take him on a walk for one day, he lets us know he isnt happy!!!! (Usually by stealing asnd hiding my socks)
  22. Good morning, I found two fleas on my 4 months old JRT this morning. He was last given the Frontline Plus treatment about 2 weeks ago. Im going to give the house a good vaccume and wash all his bedding tonight... We think he his picking them up when he goes on his morning walks (its through an oval and a spillway (all grass though) Friends have recomended using Revolution, but I am unsure if I can give that to him now or not?? Any advice would be appreciated please.
