  1. I didnt get a diet sheet...... Thanks for the hint, so around 6-8 months ill start switching him over. I dont think he will have any problems, he loves his food.
  2. Im really not too sure on this one. My JRT is 4 months old (On Sunday!), how long should I give him puppy food for? Im not sure when to switch him to adult food.. Sorry if this sounds like a niave question, but I honestly have no idea!
  3. I bought one of these: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/125...-carpet-cleaner from the Good Guys a few weeks ago and found its brilliant for removing animal stains and smells. Plus it really gave the carpet a fantastic clean!!!
  4. How much would you charge for a small one with post to Southbank?? I only just found out about this toy and think my JRT would love it!
  5. I have a thread in the photos section (will find links) with photos of him. I swear I must take a bazillian a day of him! Here is a thread with a few photos: http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...=213605&hl= We are working on a new video of him doing all his tricks!
  6. Thank you for the hints on gettign him to walk backwards!!! Will see how we go this weekend with that one You are all right about the front yard, I must admit it has been something I worried about, but husband was adamant he could train Maui against it. (He has had many working dogs and JRT's before).... I would be devastated if anything happened to the pooch... I will look at other options...
  7. That is what I am afraid of!! When he is a teenager.. May I ask what age he would hit his "teeange years"
  8. Front yard isnt fenced. We have had no issues with him out there at all, he is never out there alone.. His recall is 100% and will Sit & Stay from a distance every time. He has also been training to sit when he sees a car. He wont run up to people... We only grab him if we see other dogs off lead... Some dogs that walk past are ok and Maui knows them well (neighbours)..
  9. We do this already in all different environments, we tend to take him everywhere we go and work on his training at each place. He did really well at the St Kilda Festival the other weekend! Lots of noise and people and still listened and did everything we asked him too. When he is a little older might see if there are any dogs parks in our area and see how he goes (we dont take him to those as he only recently had his last injection).. We only socialise him at the moment with dogs we know have been vax'ed.
  10. Any tips on how to get him to walk backwards?. That is the one I am getting stuck on at the moment!!!!
  11. Thanks! Thats pretty much what I thought too about not doing anythign until he is older.. Heis pretty good off lead with other dogs around, he has a playmate next door (Corgi pup only 2 months older then Maui) that he regularly plays with. He comes when we ask him too if they are playing. I will have a look at puppy schools in the area but I dont think he honestly needs it. We are training him ourselves and he gets heaps of socialisaiton with other dogs through our network of family and friends. (Yes I know I know, people say puppy school is a must, but I dont think it is if you take the time do train him yourself).. He is so funny climbing all over the furniture in the backyard, the day he discovered he could do it he was so proud! I am still sometimes shocked at how smart he is and how quickly he picks things up.. We play in the front yard every day (backyard all concrete) and he already knows not to go on the road, no matter what. He knows he can only go on it when we are, or he is asked to. Its so much fun training him, he really loves it when he gets things right!
  12. Good morning all, My Jack Russell Maui is just a bundle of energy and at the moment loves nothing more then jumping on/over/around the couches and anything else he thinks is an obstacle. I have read that JRT's are brilliant agility dogs and was wondering when I could start training with him? I do realise you should encourage jumping when they are puppies (try stopping him, he does it when your not looking and then smiles at ya!) Ive look at getting those aglity poles (I think??) and that sort of thing... He will be four months old on the 27th, he is still a youngun but its very very smart. I am running out of tricks to teach him!! Id like to give him something new he can learn. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you
  13. Hoping this works My husband got his new banjo (he collects these and Ukeleles) so decided to pose Maui with it :D Such a cute photo, taken with his phone!
  14. We dont have any dog parks in walking distance of me anyway, I wouldnt take him there until he is older and bigger. We have a couple of normal parks within walking distance that he runs and plays around in He is back to his old self again now, have almost perfected getting him to "lay down" from me standing now. Funny thing is he can distinguish between a "high 5" and a "high 10" now too. He LOVES doing tricks.
  15. I agree completely. My husband has had working dogs all his life so we were able to take him at 7 weeks. (I honestly dont think much of the breeder, she had others leave her before we picked ours up)... Hes turning out to be a very social and smart puppy with no issues thanks to us being very attentive with training etc.. (Heck, he learned to high 5 and high 10 within 20 minutes!!)
  16. I hope you are at least keeping the puppies until they are 8 weeks old. We took our puppy home at 7 weeks, not a problem at all with him. He is one of the brightest smartest dogs I know. That is nice for you and totally not in line with what this forum is about. Im sorry can you please explain??? Registered breeders are required to keep their puppies until at least 8 weeks old. This forum supports those guidelines. Ok, my pup didnt come from a registered breeder though... I do agree with the stance though and I wanted to wait another week before getting our puppy but couldnt..

  19. Ok so we didnt end up taking him, but did speak to Vet on the phone.. Maui has spent the last hour happily playing on the front lawn with my husband. It seems it was just a bit of lethargy from the vax.. He isnt 100% but is HEAPs better... Vet said to just keep an eye on him and brign him in any time if we need to. Maui is happily eating and drinking and chasing bugs....
  20. We ended up driving him last night as I got home late.. But my husband is taking him back to the Vets at 9am this morning.... I dont know whats wrong with poor Maui but he is just not himself. Last night when we got home he curled up in my lap and slept all night, then this morning he didnt want to do anything except sleep in our laps...He is also shivering like he is cold... He is usually full of beans in the mornings! So I rang the Vet and he is taking him back in at 9am just to make sure he is ok... I hate being at work when pup isnt feeling well..
  21. Bugger!!! We will have an unhappy puppy for a couple of weeks.. He loves running around the park/oval.
  22. Really? The vet said he could go to parks two weeks after his last vax... I will double check with him though.
  23. We would pick him up when we get to the vets of course. We usually carry him from the car into the vets anyway (plus we dont let him go on the ground even in the vet clinic)... This last shot is really only a booster (as vet said) and pup has been allowed to go to parks etc.. He has walked further on a leash before, he is a very energetic puppy (JRT). (He loves going for walks) ITs not really the distance as more the shot itself, will he be ok to walk home afterwards?
  24. Just a quick question. We are taking Maui for his last injection tonight. Are we able to walk him to the vets and back? Its 1.4 kms from our house.
