  1. Thanks for your answers guys, it's helped a lot. I'm going to give it a go, until it comes off the special at least. Hehehe
  2. I heard about it at the show as well, and price wise , their doing a special at 2 boxes for $60, that's 22kgs and she's trying to keep that special in, if it goes up I'll think again. I'm asking cause I don't know, not being offensive, how does that stack up with the other foods?
  3. Hey All Thinking of trying this food. It's another all natural one that's from the US. Has anyone heard of it or tried it. Good or bad comments? Cheers Shell
  4. The other answer to this is sometimes the pounds just don't check, I had 2 of my dogs escape the yard once, while I was away (had housesitters in, but these things happen). I rang the RSPCA and the pounds a few times panicing about my girls and finally got a girl, who told me they had been there for the last 2 days, but as they had no collars on, they couldn't contact us. When i asked "Both of those dogs are microchipped and the address and phone is up to date, why didn't you call?" She couldn't answer me. Luckily for me alls well that ends well and now I have a electric fence that runs round the bottom of my yard. My dogs don't escape now. Hehehe
  5. If I was locked in a box and soap suds were starting up my legs and getting higher, I think I would get upset too.
  6. Last year the vet and myself decided that the time had come for my old girl. These were the guys my vet used and recommended. I stayed with my girl while my vet did what he had to do and then left her at the vets. Later on I had the Owner of Pets in Peace ring me, to check what I had written on the form was still what I wanted and if there was anything else they could do for me. He then told me he had already collected Abbie and that her ashes would be ready to pick up in a certain amount of days (sorry I've forgotten how many). Within this time I had an emergency situation come up, so the money I had put aside for Abbie had to be spent, so I rang P in P up and apologised proffusly and asked if they could keep her till next pay day, which they were quite happy to do and then once I'd payed them, they delivered her ashes to my door. They wasn't pushy, but very kind and understanding of my time in need. I couldn't recommend anyone more highly!
  7. Mavericks Mission I agree with DancinBCS. Why now? From the way I'm reading what your writing, he was alright before and now you have new neighbours, your having a lot of issues. WHY? I'd be trying to set up the camera to see if you can film whats going on and I'd be asking your neighbour on the other side if they've ever had any issues with your dogs when your not there, it may have been happening for a long while and you didn't know about it and if so somethings got to be done about it quick smart and you've had some excellent suggestions or something news happening and this is why he's reacting like this.
  8. When I had 2 girls, they were the biggest tarts when one was in season, talk about butch. The old girl was 10 and put down last year, but she'd still get in on the act. Hehehehe
  9. If your going to look at this (and I honestly agree with you, there are some really shonky kennels out there, but there are a lot that do the right thing) can you also look at the other side of the coin, for kennels that are chased out of business, when they are doing the right thing, by the public. I'm speaking from experience here, but I'm talking about a time at least 10 years ago. We used to live in industrial area, we used to have 2 car wrecking yards around us and a trucking company, plus a big horse sports area, plus cattle paddocks for the meatworks, we owned boarding kennels and there was another one up the road. First the public pressure got the meatworks to downsize, because they down sizedsome of the paddocks were sold off to developers. Then the houses started being built. The trucking company was the first to bow out to public pressure, it was to dusty and smelly. All dogs in kennels, will make a racket, when someone pulls up, because they think it might be their owner, they get excited, they bark. Our kennels were only open certain hours and we tried to keep the dogs quiet otherwise. We had a 6 foot fibro fence around the property and we cleaned up all the dog poo and took it to the dump once a week, and the kennels were cleaned with detergent and bleach daily and the dogs were bathed and dipped for fleas and ticks once a week. But no that was not good enough, we ended up having the council visiting us through noise complaints, we were going to have to put a 7 foot brick fencing in (to keep the noise in - ahuh) and then going to have to put a septic system in to catch everything. We couldn't afford it, so both us and the kennels down the road closed down. How is it allowed, that an area that has been deemed industrial and have industies in it, be chased out, because Joe Public doesn't want the noise? Surely there's got to be some madatory codes about this sort of thing too.
  10. My kids get so upset with me when we go to my daughter's cricket match. Two people bring their dogs (a full grown labrador and a overweight black setter - apologise I know their not called that, but for the life of me I can't think of the breed at the moment) and then all the kids take them walking round the oval. My kids (who are 7 and 9) are not allowed to take part in this, cause I get to worried and all the other parents think I'm being a hypercondriac Mum, cause there's never been an issue before. But I get to worried, not so much about these dogs, but what would happen if another dog entered the picture. My daughter shoots me a filthy look every week, but every week the answers still NO.
  11. http://www.youtube.com/user/Pauchel75 Here's all mine, all about my dogs(no-one would believe I had a family hehehe) Check out a dobermann lurecouring Shell
  12. I think you said it all, when you said this, this is probably the reason, no one had stopped. You probably find, someone had tried and she'd chased them away! WELL DONE!
  13. Another one to look at is Anamist. Natasha is in Brisbane and 3 of her dogs are doing Shutz up here
  14. I have a solar panel one, that is used to keep horses in. My dogs were digging under, so I connected it to the fence about 20cms off the ground, right round my yard. When we move I just have to remove the electric wire from the fence and reput it on the new fence. It works fantastically, and can be used for small animals as it just bites it doesn't kick. I know I had to touch it a few times to check it worked and to show the kids how it worked. Shell
  15. I remember growing up with Mum's bitch who went everywhere with her, bar work. If Mum walked out in shorts or jeans, she would have a kelpie, bounding along side her, but if Mum walked out in a skirt, barely an eye would be opened and you had to step over her to get out the door.
  16. I went to the beach on the public holiday. My dobie is not visious, but she is a big girl and she gets really excited (she only turns 2 in a week), so I keep her on lead so she is under control (though if you could see my left hand today - you wouldn't say that hehehe). At the moment we're babysitting another big dog too (the most placid thing you've ever come across, my dobie tells him off), so we kept him on lead as well. It's interesting to hear all your comments about other peoples dogs and how tolerant you are, because the amount of people who were giving us filthy looks because we kept 2 big dogs on leash (so obviously visious) at the beach with our 2 children. We just kept walking and if a dog came up to us I gathered my dobie in and she just jumped around with me hanging onto her tight. I want to be able to enjoy the beach too and I kept my dogs under control, am I allowed at the beach?
  17. My old Dobie used to do it, but not on command and only for me. It seemed something she would do when she was really happy to see me. I miss her smiles now!!
  18. I have one as well and throw everything in there, from dog poo, to grass clippings, to food scraps even my bills I didn't want to throw in the bin (I just tear them up small) The worms eat them all.
  19. No Flaming here This happened to me but on the other end of the stick about 15 years ago. The farmer hadn't shot my girl, but she was harrassing his cattle. I went and had her put down and strangely I was flamed then by alot of people for doing it. I couldn't rehome her as she was jumping fences and harrassing stock. I feel for you, and you did the right thing.
  20. When I had a real chewer, I went to the supermarket and made up a mixture of whatever hot I could find. Tabasco sauce ect and put it on the bottom of whatever was being chewed. Worked really well!
  21. The call came out on the radio this morning for anyone with dog trailers, to help with a mass evacuation and the reponce was impressive, they got them all out and rehomed in other kennels. We also had to shift another kennels, that was in trouble in the 74 floods, so they took the precaution of evacuating to another kennels. I'm impressed with Brisbane!!
  22. About 10 years ago it was time to look for a new dog. The rules were, easy coat, prefer guard dogish, willing to get involved in dog sports and for some reason, I prefer slim lined. The Dobie, fits all these requirements, little did I know then, all their little tricks and traumas that they play. Their kleptomaniacs, they like to dig and if their outside and can see you inside, they all have their own ways of letting you know about it. But I love them.
  23. Yes I have got to say your boy scared me the first time I saw him. But after seeing him race, he just loves Luring. I'll just get used to walking in on my heels, and my arms being slightly longer than when I arrived. :D
  24. Hey All I'm the dobie girl that's been coming for a little while and I thought I'd better introduce myself, I'm Shell and my very nutty dog, that I'm sure you've all heard as she's very vocal is Opal. Unfotunatly for me, with the dopie ears and then the tails the photo's Rod takes of our dogs are fantastic, it's the subjects who ruin the shots. But here's a couple http://petographer.fotopic.net/p66740047.html http://petographer.fotopic.net/p66740049.html (Kangaroo Dog) But every now and again the subject actually lines everything up nice for us like this http://petographer.fotopic.net/p66740050.html
  25. Hello I'm going to give a brag about my dobie here. She does Lure Coursing and does it really well! Here's one of her first runs.
