Bitches go into labour early and nobody is disputing that. But it's only a matter of a couple of weeks either way - not exactly a difficult target to avoid. A bitch who CHOOSES to whelp in the dirt under the DARK, QUIET porch (fairly close to natural circumstances) cannot be compared to being a dog show, being surrounded by the sights and smells of hundreds of other dogs, bitches in season, entire dogs etc. A dog show is like a cocktail of pheromones and noise. It surprises me that a bitch could easily whelp at a dog show and I'd be surprised if that is where she went into labour. I'd theorise that any bitch who whelps at a dog show was well into labour before she arrived. There are good reasons why mammals usually whelp at night.

I wouldn't show a bitch once the pregnancy was confirmed (eg 4 weeks) and I totally respect the actions of those who don't show after mating. As far as I'm concerned it's irresponsible to take a bitch out of her home environment (except to the vet) in the last few weeks of pregnancy. If you can't get someone else to show your dogs that week then you just don't show. It's not like you don't have AT LEAST 9 weeks to plan and not enter shows. Sometimes I think people's determination to show takes over their common sense and their pet's welfare. I can't imagine having a baby at a friggin dog show and I wouldn't expect a bitch to either. They deserve peace and quiet away from the noise and attention. I can't imagine a place further away from noise and attention than a dog show.

So sorry. RIP Sam. You were very loved and you chose your own time in a place where you felt happy and secure.

I read this on Facebook earlier and had to pull myself together so I could go out. Harry will be missed at the DOL meets. He was always one of Boney's mates. Huga you've got so many lovely photos of him - a lovely tribute. RIP big goofy man. *pug hugs to Lola*

Getting Serious And Charging Appropriately
blacklabrador replied to rocco's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
I have two comments to make here. 1) I am sick to death of seeing photographers with great frontage/pretty advertising/snappy logos charging large prices for mediocre photography. 2) Rocco you aren't going to be one of them so you charge appropriately. You have talent, people should be paying properly for what they get from you. I have a friend who is a photographer who told me that she'd reached "the top of her game". I nearly choked. She's been doing it a long time, has a niche market in a particular area and continues to take photos at a slightly better than hobby photographer level. I just suggested that she add Alicia and Alex to her Facebook page. -
Is Louie the Wei? Dash usually loves other "pointer type" dogs so they will probably have a great play. He's a bit timid initially. I will be there with my three boofers.

Crap - only a net between the lions and the crowd. I would have been out of there. Bloody idiots. I hate seeing cats in captivity.
