  1. Lovely story. What better way to heal broken people but with the love of a dog? I do wonder how they cope with the separation though, after having had the dog with them night and day for so long.
  2. Were the children playing in an off leash dog park? I can't say that I know too much about herding breeds but isn't nipping ankles a natural behaviour when they are in this mode? I'd be worried about letting this happen and ending up with a child being nipped and all the repercussions that follow (even though it's not an act of aggression).
  3. *nods* It's bloody appalling isn't it? Yep There are so many great registered breeders out there, it's unfortunate that not all of them do the right thing by the pups they breed. Not sure what can be done to change that.
  4. *nods* It's bloody appalling isn't it?
  5. There's a time to take a stand and there's a time to shut up.
  6. Awesome so nobody's calling her a "Cavoodle" or "Poovalier" so what's the issue? Are pictures not to be taken of innocent cross bed dogs? Would you care if he'd chosen a kelpie X cattle dog?
  7. Vitamin C is not the issue - I think you may have heard about Vitamin A which should be fine as long as the fish oil is given in sensible amounts and other sources are considered.
  8. It could possibly be a lagotto - how about you check with the owner first as to what the dog is before abusing her? For all you know, she might have gotten it as a rescue/pound dog. Absolutely. Please don't make pedigree dog owners and breeders look like a bunch of Nazis. The guy is a designer and has certain things in mind for his photos shoot. Who is anybody to say which crossbreed he uses? As for "flooding" someone's email inbox with anything - isn't that harrassment? Sorry but I just don't think either idea is sensible.
  9. Have you tried just giving them the capsules? Most dogs love them on their own. My dogs are enthusiastic about "fish lollies" as they are about any other treat. Then again... they are labradors.
  10. I know I'm being boring posting another dog picture but I seriously can't be arsed at the moment and OH still hasn't bought himself a new camera so I only have mine at night time. This is Dashby dressed in the coat he wears at night. My object was to catch him sitting still which is no mean feat but I think I got it. It's too yellow but I don't have good enough editing software to fix it at the moment. He also looks like he has his lip pierced. I do like his expression though. Taken with a 50mm 1.8.
  11. Ok good. But they aren't very sharp and I'm pretty sure the flare across Ed's face isn't the desired outcome You're right. Some people will put their hand up and block the sun while they focus then when the focus is locked they take their hand away. You could try that to get a sharper image. Oooh ok, thanks It's clearly an orb anyway Huga.... Haunted house.
  12. T bone gets this sometimes. To the point where I can't hear the TV and am sure he's about to get diarrhoea. He never does though - it never seems to result in anything or be caused by anything that I can detect.
  13. Why don't you ring around and compare prices? You should be able to get a quote on this surgery over the phone. I hope they have discussed the chances of incontinence after this procedure. Chronic = a condition over 3 months. She's had one acute infection by the sounds of it (possibly that didn't respond to treatment in the first place) but not two different infections. I would never consider surgery as an option after a single infection. Let her get over it, learn some management of anal glands (including expressing and dietary changes) and see how she goes.
  14. Lovely pics guys! I just love that one of Huga looking like a mean, stressed housewife... she's scary in that picture! Well done Tess! Great photos too. Well done to Ashanali and maybe to Alex.
  15. A great one I heard yesterday at the dog park when I told an idiot that his dog was being dominant after it had chased T bone around the park trying to hump him for 15 minuntes - thank God it was too fat to catch up with him too often. "He's too stupid to be dominant" Ahh noooo that would be that you're too stupid to recognise it. Why do people think that big boofy dogs are "too stupid" to behave badly?
  16. I wish more vets recognised the role of grain based foods in yeast ear infections! Most just continue to treat without changing the diet. I have a bitch whose ears get a bit stinky if she has more than a few days of dry food. We've never had an infection but I suspect that is because we maintain a raw diet 99% of the time.
  17. I have a padded crate pad with a big 3 metre piece of polar fleece on top - he rearranges it as he pleases. I can't trust my crated dog with pillows or cushions (if I could I wouldn't have to crate him!!) otherwise he would have one of those too.
  18. He may have a partial obstruction - the combination of symptoms doesn't sound good. If his motions are pale there may be something disrupting the flow of bile (gallstones or a tumour). I'd have him to the vet sooner rather than later as they can go downhill very quickly in these cases.
  19. Save your money - you will have gotten a more accurate guess from this thread than you will from that test.
  20. So sorry Kiwi. She was a beautiful girl.
  21. It was quite clearly an advertisement for a new food which responders clearly either don't care about or don't know enough to comment about. Of course, whether feeding such a food is of any benefit or not will become the focus of the topic - that's how discussions naturally progress. Of course any discussion regarding eliminating grains from a dog's diet will involve feeding raw food because that is how the majority achieve that.
  22. This is a serious discussion and you made no indication that you were attempting to make a joke. I've heard less logical justifications for feeding commercial food than that. No this is a discussion about a certain type of kibble. It is not a discussion about Barf or prey diet. I didn't specify what kind of discussion it was. My contributions have related directly to a grain free diet and I have no control over what other people write. I don't think this particular kibble has been discussed since the original (and obvious attempt at promotion) by the OP.
