  1. flame suit on but there was only one that appealed to me, a couple that left me cold, and the rest meh. I'm sure they are the right dogs for their owners but they are not right for me. So what I got out of that is, if I couldn't get the breed I want I wouldn't get a dog. Which surprised me a bit after owning them for over 30 years. Understandable. I guess I find a wide range of dogs good looking and having met all those dogs int he pictures I also chose the photos of the dogs with the temps that most appealed to me. You have to be happy with the dog that you own and if you don't like how it looks or the breed then that's half the fun lost in owning it. Each to their own.
  2. Quite a few whippets and whippet crosses come through rural pounds. about 80% of those are either sent home or adopted straight from the pound.
  3. Maybe (the one with the pink bow) is an amazing yard dog. She'll work cattle, sheep and goats without fuss. Isn't scared of anything, so obedient. She was dumped in the pound with her 3 puppies. I still don't understand but I'm so glad I went that day to pick up a foster dog (that was gone by the time I got there) so instead ended up putting my name down for her. She's the best dog in the world. I'd adopt her 100 times over.
  4. I have to say...this part bugged me. of my personal 6 dogs, my rescues are the dogs I get the most compliments on how stunning they are, and NON of them were snatched up quickly. Paisley's previous owner spent several months looking for a home for her before giving her to rescue. Gem and Gyp both sat in a high adoption shelter for 2 full months without interest. 2 of my plain boring dogs are from breeders and 1 was an owner re-home. I have a hard time finding anything but the most attractive dogs in shelters and rescues lol Pound/rescue dogs are so pretty! And some past pound dogs, now in loving homes. Now this is personal opinion only but i don't consider any one of the above dogs as unattractive or not cute.
  5. She looks so very similar to my Mum's BC x Lab, especially that slightly cross-eyed look of "why do you do such awful things to me?????" as you balance some new random object. Does Maybe do that thing where she turns her head ever so slightly until whatever's on her head falls off? Jack does that because if he's quick enough, he gets to eat it  Haha no, I've taught her to freeze, unless I balance it incorrectly it stays
  6. Risk of diseases such as parvo are a lot higher during warmer months. And a pup can seem fine when adopted then go downhill fast. I wouldn't risk it. I've known people who have and it has gone both ways (all from different pounds). Some puppies were fine but a couple have had lengthy vet stays and one died
  7. I only do rescue dogs now. I wouldn't adopt a puppy from a pound during summer especially. I have adopted adult dogs from the pound and they turned out weird but fine :D
  8. They said they've never owned a large dog before. I would not suggest a maremma as a first time large dog.
  9. Back in the day we raised our dogs on supermarket working dog mix (blue dog or something similar) and the youngest died at 16, the oldest at 18. We now feed mainly working dog with raw and touch wood the dogs are going well and no serious health issues. I think it's quality of life and environment as well as the nutrition factor.
  10. I had these photos on fb and everyone thought she was a lab
  11. He went on the cruise with her, didn't you see the photos of him in his cute little hula skirt? No lol. But I did see the photo of a woman with 'unstable diabetes' eating creme brulee. I have friends with serious diabetes (that would be very eligible for a dog but don't have one) who would never touch stuff like that. Pretty sure it would put them into a coma no matter how much a dog pawed at them. dont forget the waffle stack. Just what every unstable diabetic needs!

  13. But don't you need a medical alert dog all the time?
  14. How does the dog medically alert when she's overseas?
  15. I taught Maybe to stay still/freeze on command, and leave her head exactly where I put it. She actually doesn't mind the stuff being on her head, she comes in and sits waiting now  probably because she gets super tasty treats afterwards.
  16. I see a dog trying to investigate a noise, disturbed by the noise and slight prey drive posture but the video kept glitching so can't say it was prey drive for sure.
  17. They appear normal on pc but apparently tablets and phones see them upside down. not sure why.
